CORNELIUS INGRAM: TORN ACL

Cornelius Ingram, TE, has a torn ACL according to Joe Schad on ESPN. It's not the worst news for Florida, who has a potent replacement in Aaron Hernandez coming up, but it sucks royally for Ingram on a personal and karmic level. Ingram came back for his senior season, thrived at TE after moving over from qb, and has been the ho-hum oh just perfect citizen as far as being a credit to his school, team, and the utterly awesome name "Cornelius."

You know what really broke his ACL, though, according to Urban Meyer? That damned celebration, of course. Urban Meyer hasn't forgotten about that.

Is this the guy Urban recruited to play QB and, in an effort to get him to sign, told him they were recruiting Tebow to play linebacker?

One of those guys who seems like he’s been at Florida for about sixteen years. I remember him tearing up our secondary in the title game. Hope he heals up in time for the combine so he can help his draft position, because it’ll probably take a hit.

Damn.

  1. - poor taste. Not. funny. If this had happened to Knowshon, you would not appreciate any jokes right about now. This is terrible news for CI on a personal level.

by hobeg8r on Aug 7, 2008 3:57 PM EDT reply actions

No, Ingram predates Urb.

by Orson Swindle on Aug 7, 2008 3:57 PM EDT reply actions

I assume he has already redshirted, in which case this is truly awful news. From a UGA lifer, heal quickly and go make a ton of cash dude…

Well…“shit” is about the only word for this.

What was wrong with it? Seemed like an honest question.

Anyway, Ingram is from Hawthorne and I happened to meet his uncle one day when I was over there doing some work. We talked about him continuing to play both basketball and football and the likelihood of him dropping basketball, which he did. Really good kid. I echo #2’s well wishes.

by PW on Aug 7, 2008 4:08 PM EDT reply actions

Can he get a medical redshirt?
Thus becoming the Acie Earl of College Football.

CI is a model citizen for the Gators and vital component of the offense. I feel absolutely terribel for him.

Damn Georgia!

by PoonDaddy on Aug 7, 2008 4:10 PM EDT reply actions

Here’s hoping the gifted hands of the UF Medical team can get him up and ripping through teams faster than ever.

Good luck Mr. Bennett. Heal up soon so you can dazzle Mel Kiper in Indy.

by Evil Mark Richt on Aug 7, 2008 4:14 PM EDT reply actions

When I first came to UF, I wasn’t a Gator fan. The player who really won me over was CI, whom I liked to call Cornelio (pronounced with the same inflection as when Will Ferrell says “Emilio!” in Night at the Roxbury). Put simply, I am really sad to see this happen. I was really looking forward to watching my favorite player tear up opposing defenses this year. I am praying that he chooses to pursue a medical redshirt so his UF career doesn’t end with a whimper.

by BJGator on Aug 7, 2008 4:19 PM EDT reply actions

What’s the deal? St. Tebow can’t just lay hands on him and make him good as new?

All kidding aside, that sucks.

by CincySooner on Aug 7, 2008 4:20 PM EDT reply actions

Too bad, CI is probably the best all around athlete on that team. Also the fact that he’s a hometown kid staying to play his senior season rather than running for the money.

by 2hellWgeorgia on Aug 7, 2008 4:21 PM EDT reply actions

Derrick Harvey gone to the pros? No worries, we have Carlos Dunlap who will be a sophomore superstar!

Jamar Hornsby is gone? No worries, we have plenty of other safeties!

What, Dorian Munroe gone? No worries, we have Will Hill who will be a true freshman superstar!

Our two leaders in receiving TDs from ’07 now gone? No worries, we have ________ who will be a star as a first-year starter! Little tougher job for Percy Harvin? Nahhh…

Torrey Davis flunked out? No worries… we have plenty of true freshmen superstars to fill in at defensive tackle in the SEC!!

Good luck with all that.

DoubleDawg05 and PW:

yes, that was in terrible taste and no, it wasn’t an honest question. because if Dawg had used this little thing we like to call “the internets” the answer to that question would have magically appeared on that pretty-colored box in front of the thing we refer to as a “keyboard.”

it was jevon snead. now go and get some class.

by rjsplow on Aug 7, 2008 4:25 PM EDT reply actions

You guys better some up with something funny, and fast. Make with the yuk-yuk! The only thing worse than reading about CI’s injury is the inevitable sly remarks from the Vols and Dawgs out there.

I’m never going to the CBS Sportsline forums ever again, for that very reason.

by Brewdog on Aug 7, 2008 4:25 PM EDT reply actions

It actually was a legit question. Please note the 1) lack of humor and 2) absence of jokes in my post.

#18, thank you for the answer.

I’m a Gator fan and I didn’t find it to be in poor taste. It in no way insults Ingram, only Meyer. And if Meyer really did tell Snead that, he deserves to be ridiculed for his recruiting tactics.

and Orson, what’s the deal with having to re-type my info in the boxes every time i post?

by PW on Aug 7, 2008 4:34 PM EDT reply actions

Speaking of classless/redneck/etc., the worst fan display I’ve ever witnessed was during the Ala./Fla. game in 2005 when Prothro went down. A group of Gator fans in the upper deck above the student section started flashing four fingers (prothro was #4) and then doing the throat-slashing gesture. Talk about rings in hell…

I’ve been passing Hawthorne High on my way in and out of G’ville for going on 13 years now. Really.Small.Town. Ingram really stuck out in my mind when he was recruited/committed to the Gators. The guy’s done everything asked of him and has matured into a diamond on the field. Best wishes to Cornelius in his recovery and future.

From a UGA fan/grad here, hope CI has a quick and complete recovery.

I’m wondering how classy this place would be if it were James Laurenitis who tore his ACL and his senior year was over before it started.

I’m no Buckeye fan either.

That said, coming from a non-Florida fan as well, I liked watching Cornelius last year. If he doesn’t get the medical redshirt, I hope he’s healthy for the combine.

by dudis41 on Aug 7, 2008 4:55 PM EDT reply actions

Georgia fan here. I hate to see any kid get hurt. I hope he recovers fully and gets a sixth year of eligibility.

That said, I thought your Meyer celebration tag was pretty funny.

hahahahah SEC fans lecturing about class. esp UF fans talking pointing it out. i was 10 at the ND/UF Sugar Bowl and was slapped, flipped off, and had “FUCK YOU! FUCK ND” screamed my face by a UF couple. injuries happen. injuries heal. jokes are jokes. no class involved…nor deserved

yeah i was at that uf/bama game in 05 as well, sitting right on the aisle where a fence seperated the bama student section from the gator section. its one thing to talk smack with other college age people, or even middle age guys who chatter back, but seeing obv underaged and hammered bama frat guys calling a couple of ladies old enough to be any of our grandmothers filthy cunts and then throwing a full coke on them takes the cake. This happened approx 1.5 min before prothro injury. always sucks to see someone get hurt, but the punched in the stomach look on those guys let me know the football karma gods were at work

Texas Dog, you’re right. I’m convinced. So is everyone else, no need to keep posting until you come back to gloat in November. Your brothers and sisters over at the AJC blogs should be missing you by now anyway.

I feel bad for Ingram and hope he recovers completely to fulfill a fruitful NFL career – or 6th season via medical redshirt.

Or, he could go all Steve Detwiler and suit up against the Dawgs without his ligament and kill us. I hope he chooses surgery.

Another starter for Auburn out.
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=443223

Do I relish these incidents. No. Is there some malicious or nefarious cheering on my part that this ultimately increases our chances. No.

I have been watching CFB for the better part of 35 years. It’s entertainment now. I love the best against the best. Balls to the wall OT wins (sorry Bama), great comebacks (AU 2005, Vandy 2006), unbelievable 2nd half’s (UGA vs. VT 2006). And this is just in the last few years.

If I had attended tOSU or USCw, I probably would have quit watching football decades ago. What’s the point…90% of their games are decided by the second quarter. It is not the best against the best.

To have the crowd aroar, last minute goal line stands, pick 6’s and 50 yard field goals is the essence of football entertainment.

That said, I hope CI makes a speedy recovery. And plays again.

If you want top heavy, mediocre football stay away from the SEC. If you want entertainment at its finest

Re: 31

And it was 4th down…
And Bama could have kicked a field goal…
And Bama were up 31-3…
And there were just 9 minutes left in the game…

Terrible. Horrible. Miserable. Mike Shula.

by J-skool on Aug 7, 2008 8:10 PM EDT reply actions

Hate to see any of these guys hurt. My guess is it wasn’t the celebration but lingering effects from a chop block (you guys are slow tonight).

by Sundawg on Aug 7, 2008 8:59 PM EDT reply actions

Ugh – Injuries are something I never take devilish delight in when they hit my rivals. It sucks for young men who bust their behinds to suffer things like this, especially their senior year. Go Dawgs and I hope for CI’s full recovery.

by EmotionalFescue on Aug 7, 2008 10:17 PM EDT reply actions

  1. - I curse Shula everytime I see a replay of Pro’s catch against Southern Miss. I sincerely hope that Shula gave Pro a percentage of his buyout when he was canned. That kid was something special.

Regarding fans, I don’t think any school is exempt from examples of poor taste, classless acts or the like. I’m sure there’s even been a Vandy frat boy at some point in time who spit on an opposing fans car when no one was looking.

by The Snake will Drive Again! on Aug 8, 2008 7:48 AM EDT reply actions

Didn’t Meyer call this injury a “tweak” just the other day? That, my friends, is karma. Meyer steadfast insistence on playing cloak-and-dagger with his players’ injuries is well documented. And that’s just another reason why he’s an asshole.

by Otto on Aug 8, 2008 8:18 AM EDT reply actions

DoubleDawg @ #1…the Urban legends never die… Jevon Snead decommitted when he thought Tebow was coming to Florida…Snead was with Tebow at the QB camp and knew Tebow wasn’t gonna be a lb whether he went to Florida or Alabama…so to say Urban lied is simply a petty enjoyable dig at an opposing successful coach…

Regardless, CI’s season ending injury is a shame and I sincerely hope he has a rapid and comlete recovery.

by sb on Aug 8, 2008 9:44 AM EDT reply actions

I don’t know who all these classless Gators were that Bama fans refer to as cheering, making gestures, and otherwise daming themselves to a life in hell for mocking Prothro after the injury. Sitting smack dab in that terrible, terrible Gator section, I distinctly recall a sense of “holy-shit-did-they-score-again?-we’re-getting-our-asses-kicked-ok-good-he-dropped-it” then the entire section sensing something was truly, horribly wrong on the field and a stunned silence for the remainder of the game.

by Verdigo on Aug 8, 2008 9:45 AM EDT reply actions

Verdigo, I was at that game as well and I would concur with your recollection.
