I attended media days this year for the first time. (Oh, Orson: the shorts, flip flops and black tee shirt was a hell of an ensemble Friday.)

As an Alabama native, I think it should be moved to Atlanta. The Tide white trash have become too much of an embarrassment.

Oh, and fuck New Orleans. The whole place is a urinal.

Bring the SEC Media Days to Nashville. It's nearer the geographical center of the conference, and all the media could fit into Dudley Field.

+100 Jaeger shots to "sdf fan," who absolutely nails it. Birmingham is more than sufficient for Media Days. Just like when he suggested moving the conference to Atlanta back in 2004, Barnhardt is just stirring the pot again.

Some of the comments on this post prove again why arguing over "what's a better city/town/etc." is at least two evolutionary quotients above monkeys throwing their leavings at each other.

I can't also help at shake my head at the guys on here comparing the Wynfrey to a strip mall. Get over yourself. It's a 4-Diamond hotel. Granted, I'm sure you guys probably wipe your asses with Google stock certificates anyway.

Glad to see I'm not the only one, Tater.

Sdf,
Why have we not seen any rediculous media day AU fan videos from an "equally split" birmingham? I grew up "under" the mountain in the Bham area, and I think AU has a better representation in the ATL than in it's home state's largest metro area.

Case in point (hope this works):

Some of the comments to that Barnhardt article/blog were pretty funny. Love the comparison of the Wynfrey/Galleria to a strip mall.

W/G is to strip malls as Buckhead is to trailer parks.

As a 'Ham resident, I would favor the rotating idea over Atlanta. The SEC Championship game is one thing -- a singular and large event in a domed stadium well suited for December football is one thing -- but a three day event intended for the media would get lost in the noise of Atlanta.

Honestly, and I doubt most folks on here remember, I was a big fan of the skywriters tour. Phil Snow was the schiz.

I vote they have it in New Orleans, at Pat O'Briens in the piano bar, with a 2 Hurricane minimum BEFORE the interviews, for players and coaches. Then let the supoena's fly. And chairs....pretty soon it would look like this scene:

I disagree with your assessment, Tiger. First off, I never detected any material difference between Auburn and Bama fans in Birmingham. Certainly, our office Iron Bowl week festivities were well contested, and I bet other more scientific measures (say, counting car flags the Friday before the game) would produce the same results. So from the start, Birmingham escapes the immediate "homer" issues that Nashville and New Orleans would have - it's split between two fan bases who would never let the other have an unchallenged hold on the proceedings.

Furthermore, at least in the over-the-mountain areas, there is great representation of all SEC teams. If you take a drive down a neighborhood in Homewood, Hoover, or Vestavia on a Saturday in the fall, you'll see UT, LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, etc. flags. I am a Georgia alum, and I had lots of friends in town who were diehard fans of another team besides AU and UA. Birmingham certainly doesn't draw as many young professionals as Atlanta or Nashville, but it does have its share.

Atlanta is notorious for being a terrible sports town, and its population, if not its sports attention span, is so hopelessly divided that it just can't be as devoted to SEC football as B'ham. For Christ's sake, it's got an ACC team right in the middle of the city. You've got pro sports. And, of course, the transplant factor - there are probably more people from Detroit and Buffalo in Atlanta than there are from Kentucky and Arkansas. It would not surprise me if Notre Dame fans outnumber Mississippi State fans in Atlanta, which would be an automatic disqualifier. Nashville is much more preferable to Atlanta in this regard, but it's getting worse.

It wouldn't surprise me if the media days were moved to Nashville or Atlanta or Sea Island or Destin or someplace else, because money talks. But that wouldn't make it right!
