I can’t also help at shake my head at the guys on here comparing the Wynfrey to a strip mall. Get over yourself. It’s a 4-Diamond hotel. Granted, I’m sure you guys probably wipe your asses with Google stock certificates anyway.

Why have we not seen any rediculous media day AU fan videos from an “equally split” birmingham? I grew up “under” the mountain in the Bham area, and I think AU has a better representation in the ATL than in it’s home state’s largest metro area.

Case in point (hope this works):

As a ‘Ham resident, I would favor the rotating idea over Atlanta. The SEC Championship game is one thing — a singular and large event in a domed stadium well suited for December football is one thing — but a three day event intended for the media would get lost in the noise of Atlanta.

Honestly, and I doubt most folks on here remember, I was a big fan of the skywriters tour. Phil Snow was the schiz.

Furthermore, at least in the over-the-mountain areas, there is great representation of all SEC teams. If you take a drive down a neighborhood in Homewood, Hoover, or Vestavia on a Saturday in the fall, you’ll see UT, LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, etc. flags. I am a Georgia alum, and I had lots of friends in town who were diehard fans of another team besides AU and UA. Birmingham certainly doesn’t draw as many young professionals as Atlanta or Nashville, but it does have its share.

Atlanta is notorious for being a terrible sports town, and its population, if not its sports attention span, is so hopelessly divided that it just can’t be as devoted to SEC football as B’ham. For Christ’s sake, it’s got an ACC team right in the middle of the city. You’ve got pro sports. And, of course, the transplant factor – there are probably more people from Detroit and Buffalo in Atlanta than there are from Kentucky and Arkansas. It would not surprise me if Notre Dame fans outnumber Mississippi State fans in Atlanta, which would be an automatic disqualifier. Nashville is much more preferable to Atlanta in this regard, but it’s getting worse.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the media days were moved to Nashville or Atlanta or Sea Island or Destin or someplace else, because money talks. But that wouldn’t make it right!
