Did you even watch the 05′ Texas game in Columbus? So you’re telling me that a 3 point loss to the undefeated NC’s that year was the nail in the coffin for Ohio State…that is insane. Ohio State bounced right back, went to a BCS bowl that year and crushed ND (a 10-2 ND) and then went on to win back to back outright Big Ten titles and made back to back BCS NC appearances. Granted Ohio State lost the two BCS NCGs, but come on, let’s get real here. Tressel is having 2 of his best years in recruiting in 07 and 08; landed the #1 QB in the country. Kids from all over the country want to play for him, MD, FL, MI, PA, TX..ect.

So you’re telling us that you thought Ohio State was just kind of alright up until Texas beat them in 05.

How many conference champions has your team beat in the last 10-15 years? By my math, were 4-2 against conference champions from other conferences.

We can’t live off the 2002 and 2003 defenses that would have made Chris Leak and Matt Flynn wet their panties. I think USC will be a good look and see if Ohio State can actually play defense against teams that run AND pass. The 02 and 03 defenses made plays at the expense of other teams and players. Willis McGahee and Ken Dorsey are a good example. None were illegal hits, but I think the current teams have been programmed to be safe or not to hurt others.

Speed hasn’t been an issue. The problem is Big 10 games that OSU plays in are normally over by half or the third quarter. Tressel basically held a hand behind his back by giving Beanie 6 first hald carries against Wisky. Second half? 3 TDs by Beanie. I’m glad we play USC and if we lose, we lose. If we get blown out, the defensive coordinator needs to lose his job.

The 2004 defense, by all accounts sucked. Mostly new starters, different scheme from Dantonio’s high risk, high reward defenses. Marshall put up 21, Northwestern 33, and Iowa 33. Wow, that sucked. But then amazingly the 2005 defense was arguably the best Tressel defense outside of 02 or 03. They had a bunch of veterans and knew what they were doing.

Will the same migration to a good defense when it matters happen this year? Who knows. I’d rather watch and see than sitting here and saying “Troy Smith just got sacked again” (HOLY SHIT THATS ORIGINAL). I know the jerseys look similar, but depth charts from 2006 to 2007 look a whole lot different on both offense and defense. Most were sophomores and juniors last year.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I’ve never been to Columbus. I’m just a poster on a CFB blog who is taking good-natured shots at rival fans and who should be studying for the bar exam he’s taking next week.

Also, Gainesville, FL is far from paradise.

Since the comment I was responding to earlier was directed at the entire south (burning Atlanta and whatnot), I figured I’d just let the rest of the south ride on Les and Urban’s backs. Besides, didn’t Jarvis Moss say something about several of the teams in the SEC being better than the ‘06 tOSU team? As a player from a team who has played and beaten the Buckeyes in the past 10 years, he’s allowed to talk smack, right?

And I’ve spent most of my life living in some of the nicest beach areas of SoCal (Laguna & Newport) so my standards are high.

The SEC fans REALLY need to be thankful for UCLA and Stanford, since had those teams not upset USC then the last two BCS games would have both been tOSU vs USC.

The difference is that no Gator is in denial about the anal vivisection that Tommie Frazier and co. gave to us in the desert. We still remember it quite painfully, and make no excuses or pretenses about having a chance to win that game.

And if you were a Huskers fan, you could play that card all you wanted and there wouldn’t be anything I could say about it. But since you’re not, yes it does sound really gay.

I’m kinda tired of fans, coaches, and players of teams who haven’t played the Buckeyes in 10 years talking smack. Florida and LSU can let us have it, the rest of you can go wallow in your Capital One Bowls until you actually beat a decent Tressel-coached team.

In 99, the Big Ten runner up beat the SEC champion, and the Big Ten champion beat the Pac 10 champion.

If anything, SEC fans should be thanking Ohio State because had it not been for the last 2 NCGs where Ohio State lost to an SEC team, the Big Ten would be pwning the SEC. In 06, the Gators saved a clean sweep of the SEC by the Big Ten.

You guys go ahead and enjoy your moment. How many times did Nebraska fail before they won 3 of 4 NCGs and handed Florida its worse loss of all time? I think it was like 7 losses in a row.
