R.I.P., TODD DOXEY

University of Oregon safety Todd Doxey died in a drowning accident on the McKenzie River this weekend. Doxey jumped from a bridge--presumably for fun--and was seen struggling to keep his head above water before he went under and was pulled from the river minutes later by a fisherman.

Doxey was 19. Video of the San Diego native goofing around for the camera on Youtube shows Doxey looking just as you would expect him: playful, a bit hyper, and way, way too young to die.

R.I.P., and condolences to the family.

Death sucks. Especially young people dying.

Far too many RIPs lately in the world of college athletics.
By “RIPs” I mean senseless murders or acts of stupidity that end the life of a young adult.
…and by “far too many”, I mean 1 or more.
Can’t someone be a friggin role model to their children for chris’sake?

A father should never have to bury his son.

My condolences.

How high was that bridge? From what I gather, he wasnt a strong swimmer and he panicked, and once you panic, all what you know goes out the window, especially after you swallow just a little bit of water after a high jump, cause sometimes if you hit the water the wrong way, it will knock the wind out of you and you will accidentally inhale water, and its hard to swim or think when you cant breathe or you think you cant breathe. RIP

The McKenzie is extremely cold and people around here rarely swim in it (it’s for fishing and rafting typically.) So I imagine that the temperature had more than a bit to do with it.

I read that he had come up after the jump and was about halfway back to the boat ramp before struggling and going under. Blood vessel constriction can mess up your ability to feel your way through the water and if you’re already a bad swimmer it just makes it worse. It’s also a fairly swift moving river…

RIP

This is extremely sad. Todd and I played on the same football team and he had so much talent. He always gave you that feeling that he would catch everything, intercept everyball and hit anybody that came his way. This guy was amazing. Not only that, he was one of the brightest students at school also.

R.I.P.

You will be missed.

todd doxey was a very bright young man. i went to the same high school with this kid. he was the popular all around kid. everyone either new him or off him. he has done so much for his high school. he put HOOVER high on the map. brought hoover to its first championship since the 70’s i believe. and he receive so many awards for his greatness in sports. this kid was up and on the rise to become a star. just sad to see that he is gone. if he were still to be alive i can bet all my money that he would of made it to the big leagues. anyways todd r.i.p. once a cardinal always a cardinal.
