NUTT: TIME TO GO
Houston Nutt must be cool if, when you bring up the most painful thing to happen to him in his professional life, he just keeps chatting along and doesn’t even flinch when you bring up a harebrained fourth and short call.
Listen to the interview here, where Nutt does not say GIGGITY! once or say anything vaguely crazy. He does call Michael Oher “a beautiful guy,” though.

Damn right, coach.

#3, I don’t think Arkansas fans can stomach listening to the refuse that spews forth from his mouth for long enough to give you an opinion of this interview. But from what I’ve heard, he basically got a blowjob on air with none of the so called Arkansas media so much as asking a tough question about the events that took place over the past couple of years.
October 25th can’t get here soon enough. I wonder how much damage a D Cell battery can do when thrown from 25 rows up.

Like Nick Saban, I don’t have the time to listen to the whole interview but what is this crap about how bad the program was when Danny Ford left? He’d won, what, two SEC West titles in 5-6 years plus left OL’ GIGGETY with pretty good talent that should have walked away with the SEC West his first year.
Plus, I’m gonna gripe at Honey Pie & tell her to sell her Bancorp South stock.

#6, Ford won 1 SECW title, solely because Alabama was on Probation.
That ‘boatload’ of talent had managed back to back 4-7 seasons, 3 consecutive losses to a post-death penalty SMU, and 4 conference wins in 2 years.
People who want to criticize Nutt usually get off on the wrong foot by glorifying the Ford era; it was even worse than the Nutt era, in every regard, though, and they tend to undermine a very strong case that Nutt is the ultimate scumbag with flawed football history.

Nutt had a combined 5 conference wins in 2004-2005, including a HOME loss to VANDERBILT. The difference between Nutt’s regime and Ford’s was that Nutt wasn’t fired when he should have been, while Ford was.
Also, get your info straight before you decide to comment on others being right or wrong…Ford’s Hogs won the SEC West outright in 1995. In 5 years, Ford won the West outright once. In ten years, Nutt won the SEC West outright once. If you are wondering where the “won the West only because Bama was on probation” came from, check out Nutt’s 2002 Hogs…Nutt loves to claim that title. Arkansas finished in a 3-way tie for second place. Nutt actually claims a title for a year when only two teams in the division finished worse than his.
To clear the air, here is the tally.
Ford – 5 years coached, 1 outright SEC West title, 2 winning records in conference, cupboard left full
Nutt – 10 years coached, 1 outright SEC West title, 3 winning records in conference, cupboard left bare.
Oh yeah, Nutt’s era was WAY better.

Jesus Christ, Orson.
That interview was posted on my favorite interwebs feral pig conversation place yesterday. I still haven’t listened to it.
So, these statements are based on info I obtained second hand.
1.) That host is a complete moron and doesn’t know jack shit about sports.
2.) Most Arkansas fans hate him now for going to Ole Miss so quickly.
I do find it really odd that even though Nutt is at Ole Miss now, he can’t shut up about Arkansas. If that doesn’t piss off Colonel Reb’s crew, nothing will.

EireHog says:
Ah, SoldierHog, how quickly one can draw out the irrational Nutt-haters, rather than the folks that can piece together the real reasons to fire Nutt.
Nutt shouldn’t have had the opportunity for his last two years- he should have been fired after his second poor year– but he absolutely *never* endured anything like the Ford era, in terms of losses and embarassment in SEC play.
Nutt improved on Ford in SEC play during his tenure by over .120 pts in WPC, and in overall win pct by .160 ; these are real and statistically significant differences; if Petrino were to make a similar jump in program performance, we’d be talking about a coach who easily out-performs the likes of Tubberville, Saban, and on par with Urban Meyer.
As for the ‘bare cupboards’, that’s extremely subjective at best. What All-SEC caliber players did Nutt inherit, exactly? None were named on the preseason All-SEC team, whereas Petrino does stand to inherit at least the returning Remington Award winner. We know exactly how many players off of the Ford recruited teams ended up on NFL rosters for any amount of time whatsoever- 11. Until Nutt’s last class leaves Fayetteville, it isn’t possible to make an objective evaluation of that data.
Blind Nutt hatred is what kept that scumbag in Fayetteville so long; the inability to martial reasoned arguments, and the willingness to fly off the handle and claim that the Nutt era was some kind of ‘New Dark Age’ on the Hill only lends strength to the mis-perception that Arkansas fans were off their rockers in their anti-Nutt revolt, and why people continue to have skewed visions of the program even now.

People who compare Nutt to Ford are people who forgot how the program was in shambles after the Jack Crowe Era.
Say what you will about Danny Ford’s lackadaisical in-over-his-head attitude, but he brought the program back a little respect, where it had none when he got there.
Don’t forget, Nutt’s best year at Arkansas, in terms of win percentage, is still 1996 — a team in which Ford recruited every single end, back, tackle and guard.
Ford just couldn’t get over the hump.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. All you Hogs with your internet savvy would be better served spending your time stalking your new coach. There is a pretty good chance he’s meeting with Kevin White about the Notre Dame job as we speak. If you don’t keep close tabs on your new guy, you may not even have a coach by October 25.

I believe I offered numbers and historical fact and corrected YOUR mistakes. That means you can’t come back with “cause I said so” as an argument to counter what I said, and then try to claim I can’t martial a reasoned argument. Pointing out the facts does not lessen your credibility as an able debater, but emboldens it. Please have facts and not feelings the nest time you decide to question my ability to form a rational and cogent argument.

EireHog says:
#25 – at least half of your original argument is speculative, and you have your own share of incorrect facts (Danny Ford didn’t have 2 winning conference seasons; he went 3-4 -1 once, — if you give him credit for a game that he lost 43-3 to Alabama but was later given by forfeit, then you are grasping at straws to make Ford look respectable,[albeit 4-3-1 still not being a winning record] and 6-2 once, while winning the divisional tiebreaker over Alabama). The truth of the matter is that Ford was abysmal.
Combined, Ford went 16-24-1 in SEC play, even giving him the benefit of the Alabama Forfeit. That’s absolutely atrocious next to Nutt’s 42-40 in SEC play. The comparison gets even wider when you go outside of conference play.
The plain math is evident; ask any football fan, if they had to endure a down period in their program, would they rather be a .390 program, or a .512 program in Conference Play, and you’ll *never* hear anyone ask for the .390.
The Ford Era was good only in comparison to the Crowe Era.

shit, the Ole Miss Arkansas series stands at 24-29. Not exactly ownership by any standard.

rebel84 says:
Rationally, most outsiders would put Arkansas’s football program at probably 7th in the SEC in potential. Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU would all come before Arkansas historically and currently. Can we agree on that? If you’re able to take an objective look at your program, you’d agree with that. You’re no longer in the SWC, where you were one of the top 2-3 programs.
I’ll give you that your program stands slightly above mine, with South Carolina, MSU, Kentucky, and Vandy bringing up the rear in the SEC historically and in terms of potential.
So you’re 7th out of 12 teams. That means that just over half of your games over time are going to be against schools with a better program. Given that, don’t you think that a .500 record in the SEC or close to it is pretty reasonable, or at least about what you should expect over an extended period?
That’s just reality. Given my program’s history and position in the conference (I say it’s the 8th best program), consistently finishing around .500 would be pretty good, especially if it included the occasional season where we competed for a championship.
