Donating your money down the drain of the AA’s is all fine and good and even makes some folks feel good about things… But in Athens, GA – and I imagine at any program where the games for ‘08 are sold out – one could very likely *a-hem* maximize one’s utility by simply purchasing on secondary markets. You won’t overpay for Vandy (or Northwestern as the case may be) and you’ll get a “market rate” for Tennessee (or Michigan, whatever).

And a corrupt athletic department doesn’t sit on your money all summer while you twist in the wind wondering if you’ll a) get the # of season tickets you want, b) get any away tickets, and c) where you get to park.

23 — well, my informal sample works just the other way. Out of a random group of 15 folks — OK, it’s my pledge class — only 1 or 2 stayed in Chicago, and they both grew up in DuPage County.

Yes, the UM student body is much larger, but I really didn’t feel the need to point out the obvious.

‘Cats don’t always travel well, either. I’m going back East for the Indiana game, because it’s not even a two-hour drive from Louisville to Bloomington. But I expect to have my money for the NAA picnic refunded for the second time in a row, for lack of signups.

Apropos of nothing, here’s a modest proposal: Any graduate of UM or State that hies off to Chicago within five years of taking a degree owes the school the difference between the resident and out-of-state rates. Discuss.

Thank you, 26, that is my point.

I figured there had to be a booster club, exclusive of the alumni club, just like every other school, where anyone, alum or high school dropout, can get tickets if they donate enough money.

A couple of years ago IPTAY, Clemson’s booster group, went from a mostly seniority basis to more of combination of seniority and donation basis, which was long overdue.

We had people who had been in IPTAY for 30 or so years donating $500 for 2 tickets in the lowers between the 30s, and those who had been in IPTAY anywhere from 5-10 years who were donating anywhere from $2-$10K and getting tickets in the upper deck.

Unacceptable when it comes to today’s facilities arms race.

The only people who got their panties in a wad were those taking advantage of the situation, naturally.

@Coop He’d instantly be a member of the President’s Club (separate from the Alumni Association’s allotment and unrelated to the pre-allocated student seats) and hence eligible for the purchase of 2 of their season tickets (fellow club members routinely sell seats they’re unable/don’t desire to attend though, so acquiring more than 2 with that sort of bank is often hardly a chore). While those too are somewhat limited in scope, I believe they’re distributed based on a seniority basis. Although one could argue Subcomandante would gladly accept the opportunity cost of relinquishing that privilege to engross his new lifetime membership in the far more Wayne-desired Diamond Club.

Break it down for me, then.

Let’s say, hypothetically, that Subcommondante Wayne wins the Powerball or the Mega Millions or whatever lottery is in Ohio and decides that he will donate $100K a year to Ohio State’s version of IPTAY, their booster club.

Sadly, I cannot tell you said Buckeye club’s name, which is disappointing given that I now have Direc TV and have been watching way too much of the Big 10 Network late at night.

Moving on, are you telling me that Wayne’s annual donation will not be good enough to secure 4 or more season tickets a year?
