Smoked mullet. If you're ever in Tampa/St Pete, drive down to Ted Peters & you'll taste what we're talking about. I thought Honey Pie was nutty when she first started waxing philosophic about it too. Now I don't.

Seriously, who eats mullet?

Why don't you just fillet yourself up a carp or a crappie at that rate.

Wow...

Point being, Spencer Hall is a journalist now, too. He quit his regular job and is now an employee of the Sporting News.

My theory being, once you start to write for a journalistic outfit, and are paid by said journalistic outfit, you are a journalist.

However, the guy never wrote anything unethical while he had a regular job and blogged as a hobby. Obviously, everything on this site is satire.

#25:

Quoting, because of the page break:
“Um, #10, the guy has been hawking his Sporting News site on EDSBS since he took that, J-O-B.”

#8 asserted that Mr Hall was being unprofessional. There is no doubt that he has signed a contract. You are confusing employment and professionalism.

SIDs and old media types, which I assume #8 was, cling to the professional ideals of Journalism they learned in college, as I learned them in Weimer Hall. Blogging is a new strain of journalism, just as Hunter Thompson’s gonzo journalism was. Among other things (and blogging is a LOT of things right now; history will better divide this explosion in content from the masses), it eschews the prerequisite of access (see Deadspin’s tagline) for the freedoms to comment freely, snarkily, and caustically on topics capital J Journalists won’t touch for fear of shooting oneself in the foot. With access (to source and to capital to publish) no longer inherent, neither is professionalism. The only tenet of professionalism remaining is to honor the contract — that is, Mr Hall must meet deadlines etc., and Orson must keep posting cheeseca-, umm, articles, lest his clientèle (TSN, us) abandon him .

Um, #10, the guy has been hawking his Sporting News site on EDSBS since he took that, J-O-B.

Anyway, SIDs are PR guys, and we all know what their job entails.

Since their goal, to keep everything about their school in the media as positive as possible...

conflicts ensue.

But, as Devil Grad said, the blogs are not that much different than the local newspaper...

except when some blog posts a rumor, story, etc that is not true, nobody is fired and there is no accountability, if the said blogger does not feel like taking any.

Now, maybe the invisible hand of blogdom kicks said blogger to the curb eventually, maybe not.

I do not necessarily agree that blogdom is an absolute meritocracy where only the talented and capable survive.

All you need is a rabid fanbase, and people can post anything and it will get attention. Ex: Arkansas.

#23: Yeah, that potato salad rules.

It's probably a good thing I live halfway across the country, that's the only thing stopping me from getting Ted Peters 3x a week.

What, the guy from Northern Illinois? Yeah, he definitely fits the description of the one that hadn't seen a woman in a while.

And yes, Orson, this was sent from the lobby of the Mariott just as you checked out from the hotel (free internets in the lobby, not so much upstairs). Yeah. I'm a huge nerd.

That reminds me of when my family would pray before a meal and one of my older brothers would tell my mom "PW had his eyes open while we were praying!" Of course they were, but he couldn't have discovered this had his not also been open. Unclean hands, I tell ya.
