COUNTDOWN: 59

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
(HT: Matt.)

Half the field, half the field,
Half the field onward,
All in the stadium of Doak
Rode six hundred Jenn Stergers.

Apparently Jerrard wanted to make up for there being no Fulmer Cup during the Reuban Houston mess.

Given FSU’s offense the past several years, I think we can all speculate as to what is the only thing getting up and down on that field. However, like the FSU offense, it also requires help from modern science

Lump me in with the crowd who thinks it is hilarious when anonymous Internet posters dissect the appearances of photographed females, but I too would have thought that the FSU cheerleaders would have been more attractive, given the impressiveness of their female student body, overall.

No sarcastic response (i.e. tickle pile) reference here. I grieve the demise of college football as being akin to indentured servitude. Where is recruitment headed?
Pay your dues, enrich your sponsor and (hopefully) take advantage of the opportunities/ entitlements/contacts one obtains by ACTUALLY putting forth an effort (NFL) and/or obtaining a degree.
Public intoxication, urination outside of norms and falsification of birth dates, while illegal, are somewhat acceptable given the maturity and circumstances of most 18 year old males. Rape, assault, armed robbery and drug dealing are not. Under no circumstances can one portray these actions as “high jinks”.

God bless you for setting those Tech people straight, because obviously they believe that those offenses, ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, are laughing matters, especially regarding the Tech athlete in question.
I love the Internet Chivalry Hero.
I refuse to believe that anybody who visits this website thinks occurrences such as the Tech incident are anything other than atrocious, downright inhuman.
We all laugh at the Fulmer Cup, but I doubt any of the victims, male or female, of the violent offenses that score many of these points find this exercise amusing.
Whomever wins is going to have, in all likelihood, some violent offenders, albeit probably not as bad as rape, and everyone will have a guffaw or two.
Will you be there to wag your finger, then?
You also categorize drug dealing as something worse than “boys being boys.” Did you give the Alabama fans who were mocking their own, and of course everyone else, the same stern lecture?
By all means, pick your spots.

O., since we’re on a philosophical bent, imagine that time, as we currently conceive it, doesn’t really exist…that the ‘08 season has actually already occurred; come and gone in an instant… and we are now only 59 days away from a reliving of said past time. I was there, and the Mighty Gators made a name for themselves…I’ll leave it at that for now; I won’t spoil the season for you…but I am looking forward to the replay!

Bowden as Ozymandias. Brilliant.
Go English majors!
Must bring up Shelley’s “Indian Serenade” here too, which ends:
O lift me from the grass!
I die! I faint! I fail!
Let thy love in kisses rain
On my lips and eyelids pale.
My cheek is cold and white, alas!
My heart beats loud and fast:
O press it to thine own again,
Where it will break at last!
FSU football, as of late. Passionate. Pale. Cold. Heartbreaking.

…or an ode to Bowden…
“…were’t the last drop in the well,
as I gasp’d upon the brink,
e’er my fainting spirit fell,
’tis to thee that I would drink,
with that water, as this wine,
the libation I would pour,
would be a piece of thine with mine,
and a loss to thee, you old boor…”
