JeffAU – you need to expand that to the rest of the conference.
As for my very own Gamecocks, the modern era inlcudes both Outback Bowl whippings of tOSU, any wins and close losses to SEC opponents since we hired Spurrier, any wins against Clemson, and any time after the final whistle in the Clemson 2007 game. It specifically does not include anything having to do with 63-17. Some purists may not allow it to include 4 wins-no losses vs. Clemson in baseball this season, but I do.

That was a little dig at our UF host. You see, there is no more relative measurement in CFB than anything qualified by “occurring in the modern era.” Here’ how it works:

Modern Era at UF = anything post hiring of Steve Spurrier

Modern Era at Auburn = anything post hiring of Pat Dye/retirement of Bahr Bryant

Modern Era at Ole Miss – (unfortunately) anything after integration*

Modern Era at Bama = there is no modern era, their greatness exceeds all measurement of time

* that one is actually pretty important

#10: The idea in that article is idiotic. 16-team conferences are a bad enough idea in basketball where the conference season is 16-20 games; they would be a total joke when conference play is only 8 or 9 games. Play everyone in your division and then one or two teams out of eight from the other division? Might as well split it into two conferences at that point.
