I guess I’m in the minority but I like having the BTN (given that I live in the entertainment wasteland that is northwest Arkansas). I would also subscribe to an SEC network if available. I’d rather watch women’s volleyball or college hockey than talking heads on ESPN.

They do have hockey in the SEC, right?

Thanks. I guess it would be a little sticky if the head coach knew what was going on at these voluntary practices. Not that the coaching staff had anything to do with any of it…

Not to bash on your reading comprehension skills as this is a unique case, but that wasn’t Dan Hawkins you quoted. That was Cody Hawkins being quoted, the QB/coaches son.

The players know that coaches make decisions on who starts, who plays, etc. by skill and level of dedication and hard work. These “voluntary” practices play a part. This rah-rah, gee-whiz attitude from Hawkins, while entertaining, seems somewhat disingenuous.

I attend UCF tailgates often just for that reason. And trust me, there is a lot more debauchery going on than you would imagine.

That’s fine. The people aren’t going to go to the games, we are just going to go to the bars a little earlier.

I had the same “voluntary” summer leagues and open gyms for high school basketball, as I’m sure many others did. “Voluntary” meaning if you’re not there your ass will be on the bench.

I agree with you, the current situation creates a senario were rules are most likely broken and swept under the rug, because everyone does it.

Even though schools say that participation is voluntary in summer workouts, some programs except the players to attend. The players know that coaches keep track of who attends the sessions and the coaches know exactly what is going on at these “voluntary” practices.

The NCAA should just accept this as fact and let schools train year-round. It is already happening under the guise of voluntary participation. Why bother allowing players to attend summer school and attempt to actually get their degree.
