As a FAMU alum I went to school with some white people in the band. The Marching 100 will take anyone who is talented enough to pass the tryouts.

I think it’s the same story wherever FAMU plays. Miami game, probably 15 years ago when they were still Da U, season opener I think, Miami’s up about 40 at halftime. Nobody had left. FAMU band takes the field, starts, plays, finishes, everyone heads for the doors. Mass exodus.

So, would “Drumline” be to marching bands, as “The Program” was to Div-1 college football players?

Yes….I will give you this, people in the band may be smarter when it comes to dealing with traffic and whether to lay in the road at night or not, but as far as band members trying to procreate, well, thats a problem…..we dont need another 100 Bill Gates

Mostly, the GT marching band just binge drinks. Or, at least they did before the new director started kicking people out for drinking during games (not kidding). My last year in band, I marched maybe two games semi-sober, the rest tanked. I did keg stands in full uniform at tailgates for chrissakes.

The turning point was when, the year after I quit, some freshman got piss drunk in the hotel in Blacksburg (2006 GT-VT game), dropped trou in the middle of the hall, and pissed on someone’s door. What a bastard.

One of my roommates during my Sophomore year was in the Marching Chiefs. I have never met a more depraved group of people in my life than the trolls and whales he would invite over. Everything was a really bad sexual innuendo to them and, if I recall correctly, they were actively trying to spawn a race of supernerds as everyone in the band had banged everyone else in the band regardless of gender or was actively attempting to do so. I remember making a lot of jokes about the weeping baby Jesus and pillars of salt back in those dark days.

I can only describe it as living with Stiffler guest starring on Friends, with a raging case of hallitosis, and minus the MILF.

Al Groh should rot in hell for insisting on getting rid of the UVA Pep Band and replacing it with the crappy one they have now. Of course, they had been banned from marching at about every ACC skool.
