mystery’s combo of edward gorey and vincent price… that’s a brand of awesome we’re unlikely to see matched again in our lifetimes.
still though, it’s the nbc mystery movie opening that’ll always have a place in my nostalgia lovin’ heart.

#1 - Henry Mancini certainly was something.
I had a grandfather that enjoyed instrumentals a hair to much. Mancini was downright pornesque compared to Lawrence Welk, which he also enjoyed immensely.

+11 to you Kleph. As a young lad in Southeast Louisiana, I grew up watching the likes of McCloud, Columbo, and all of the Quinn Martin shows (that voiceover guy was scary when he announced Episode Titles like “Fatal Witness” or “Murder By Proxy”).
Interesting about Mystery’s underwriting by Mobil Corporation - if they did that today (as ExxonMobil, of course), Greenpeace would be all over them. Come to think of it, the Mobil Cotton Bowl Classic just isn’t the same without them.
