By focusing on the passing game, AU will allow the RB and FB a chance to get in on more chop blocks!

BTW, most of Spring was focused on the passing game because we had one healthy scholarship RB and everyone knows what Lester can do (insert plagiarism joke here).

I really hate to rain on everybody’s hate parade here, but:

1.) Those aren’t “highlights”. Those are all the plays from the beginning of the scrimmage to about 2/3rds of the way into the first quarter. The offense started running a lot smoother as the scrimmage went on. If someone did just highlights, the O could have been made to look great, in which case everyone here would be laughing at the new DC.

2.) Auburn’s offense is not going to be “pass happy”. The scrimmage was “pass happy” because that’s what needs the most work and because we had a couple of RBs dinged up. You will see a very balanced offense come this fall.

#17 — It was actually after the 2001 game, in which Richt called that fateful (read unsuccessful) Jasper Sanks run at the goal line on the last play of the game with no timeouts left.

Oddly enough, it was only two years later that Tubbs, with two future NFL first-rounders in his backfield, gave RB and Cadillac only four rushes in the entire first half and lost 26-7 in Athens. So it’s possible he forgot that lesson years ago.

Well yeah, last year. But in 04, the year of the switch, the offensive was turning the ball over like it was their job. I think by years end Joe Daily wasn’t even bothering to check if it was a Nebraska guy he was throwing to; he’d thrown so many interceptions at that point, he probably figured he may as well just throw to the first open guy he saw and hope for the best. And why not: it worked for Brett Favre for years.

For the record, I doubt Auburn’s headed for a losing season. It just reminded me so much of that first Callahan spring game, I had to comment.

I believe it was in 2002 that Tubs beat UGA and said that the “new” Coach Richt would benefit by running the ball, because that is how you win in the SEC. Richt seems to have got that part down. Is Tubs being forgetful or does he not believe in running the ball anymore?

Or is this just a spring game so who gives a shit?

I’m not sure that these qualify as “highlights.” I was there and the offense actually looked good, albeit against a base 4-3 cover 2 the whole time. So while you shouldn’t put any stock in what you see during a spring game anyway, I would especially advise you against drawing any conclusions based on this video alone. Ah, what the hell, it’s the internet right? We’ll be lucky to average 7 pts. a game next year.

Also, I was at the A-Day game Saturday as well. A little hungover like #1, and only stayed until halftime (the weather forecast was 70, cloudy, and rainy…it was at least 120 I’m fairly certain, and sunny with nary a breeze). I thought the offense looked pretty good at times, but it’s still got alot of work to do. Kodi Burns threw a pretty pass on about a 30-yard touchdown post route. A pass more than ten yards down the field? Haven’t seen it since at least 2005. Tommy Trott (TE, #5) is gonna be special this year.

It should be a typical Auburn year under CTT…beat someone we’re not supposed to, lose to someone we’re not supposed to, probably win 8-10 games.

…..Thanks for showing some of the first half. CSS didn’t show but the second half, Saturday night. Looks like the QB’s didn’t do so well with pressure on them. And that’s 4-man rush pressure, no blitz. Uh-oh.

…..Todd looks like he’s faster with his reads than the others, but if he doesn’t get any better in the arm, he’ll be another Brandon Cox we have to break in. The other three looked far too eager to take off and run, on third and long. Low, low percentage play…
