PRYOR EMBRACES POISONOUS NUT

This year's supermodel opts for the Buckeyes: Terrelle Pryor chooses tOSU over Michigan and Penn State.

We're sure everyone will take this in a mature and reasonable fashion on both sides. Pryor said the things he was looking forward to most were the friendships he could make in college, the outstanding community in Columbus, and losing the national title game in two years to an SEC team who blows them out of the building sometime in the middle of the third quarter.

Well, look at it this way. At least they’ll win a Big 10 title at some point before he gets suspended for taking illegal “help” from boosters, right?

Ahhh yes, that magic DickRod recruiting touch. Surely with the history and prestige of the Maze and Blue he would get his tenure of a glorius start by nabbing the Patient One. What a satisfying triumph this must be.

Uh oh, what will Rich Rod do now? Does he know how to coach a traditional offense? I predict a difficult future for Michigan…. But then again, none of that matters because everyone in the Big-11 sucks and will surely bow down to the Pac-10 and SEC in the bowls.

I guess he wants to compete for national championships over Fulmer Cups. UM on the other hand will dominate future FC’s until RR is relieved of his duties due to Cooper-like results, both on and off field.

In dee face! It will be fun beating Michigan for another 4 straight years. How does Mallet feel now? He could have run the RRod spread like Texas Tech runs it instead he will sit at Ark. and will never pan out. Why doesn’t RRod go after appalachian st’s qb that lit UM up last year? He wouldn’t have to transfer and has a bigger arm than Pat White?

tOSU will have a strong team this year, Pryor used in Tebow-esque minutes will change the offense quite a bit. In all liklihood, tOSU should get another BCS bid this year. We will see 9/13 in L.A….

I find it extremely interesting that Pryor waited until after his last basketball game, which just happened to take place in the state championship game at Penn State…is it really that hard to figure out that the reason he has been waiting has been because he did not want to have to face the friendly and courteous fans of Pee State?

Mark it down…the arrival of Pryor at Ohio State will have a similar impact as Tommy Frazier at Nebraska…Nebraska lost 8 or 9 bowl games in a row, a few of them with the NC on the line, before Frazier arrived, in his 4 years they won 3 NCs.

For some reason I think Pryor will put Ohio State over the hump.

Fun fact, Tommie Frazier took NU to 3 National Championships, he only won 2. He lost to FSU in 93, beat Miami in 94, and I think there was some little Fiesta Bowl against Spurrier. The 3rd National Championship was w/ Scott Frost as QB. <—I was born and raised in NE. The first FB game I remember watching was the FSU national title game.

Hey, wait a minute, apparently we didn’t know his true two top choices at all — Michigan University and his chosen school, University of Ohio State.

0 fer 2 there, Terrelle. I guess that’s one more apt comparison to Mr Wonderlic himself, Vince Young – this guy must be pretty dim to not even know the name of the school he’s going to.

“And, aren’t you SO glad you chased away your 5* sophomore QB now, Richie? Mallet may not fit “your system”, but most “systems” do need A quarterback…”

Jesus Christ, for the last time, Rodriguez didn’t chase him off. He allegedly nearly transferred before the season even started last year. He might have transferred even if Carr had stayed. The players all seemed to think Mallett was a dick. Rodriguez talked to him several times and it was clear Mallett had no desire to stay to even find out if he could work out with Rodriguez and the new offense.

The guy who will most likely start this year was a 4*, and he’s supposed to be a little more mobile than Mallett. It’s not like it was Mallett and a bunch of 2*s. Between putting in a new system and losing so many guys no one really expects them to be awesome this year, but the idea that Mallett packing it in and leaving severely hurts them just seems silly. It wasn’t like he played all that well last year (though he was better than the Emu; of course, his offensive line and receivers were also clearly superior to what the Emu was working with).

#12: Nebraska was in the middle of making wholesale changes to the program when they picked Tommie Frazier up. Unless Jim Tressel is actually fixing problems that have been exposed with his team the last two years – as opposed to hoping he can just cover them up with more of Rivals’ shiny stars – Pryor is gonna be their Eric Crouch, not their Tommie Frazier. Another speedy QB trapped under the glass ceiling of a fundamentally “just okay” system.

  1. - We’ll see about that. The comments were about the Big Ten bowing down to to the SEC and Pac10 in away games, err, bowl games. Michigan has a stellar record against the SEC, that’s all I said.

19 – I get it, but I opine that Ronald Curry would have been at least an average QB had he gone ALMOST anywhere other than Carolina.

FYI, I get that you are jaded that he reneged on UVa for Carolina, but Curry would have sucked under Welsh and whomever was his OC during his last mediocre days in C’ville.

But, yeah, Vick, the “2nd” best QB in the Tidewater area that year turned out to be pretty good.

Gee, Yinka, thanks for setting me straight there, with your baseless assumptions, but said in an authoritative, know-it-all tone. That makes them more important than the actual facts we know , which are:

No one knew Mallet was definitely transferring. But we know he did after Richie was hired. Mallet was a 5* pro-style QB with size and experience, and he will replaced by a 4* pro-style QB with no experience but a neat last name. And after that, the cupboard is bare. Meh, with it, the cupboard is bare as far as competing with the big boys. But, go ahead, insist people thought Mallet was a “dick” if that helps…

I agree, our record vs. the SEC is beyond pathetic. But it’s foolish to think that it is any indicator of how a game against a future SEC opponent will go. Out of curiosity, why is no one here saying Bob Stoops will never win another BCS game after the eggs he’s laid recently, all in games he was either supposed to win or at least compete in?

by poguemahone on Mar 19, 2008 5:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Pants,

Mallett was a dick. The entire team wanted him to transfer prior to his freshman year. (I have this on impeccable authority.) Arkansas can have him. Michigan’s QB situation does suck, but that has very little to do with Mallett leaving.

by Michael on Mar 19, 2008 5:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If tOSU makes it back to the show and is (most likely to be) facing another SEC team, can the entire SEC pitch in and buy Ohio State out of the game, and then the whole converence play a paper-rock-scissors tournament to decide who plays the other SEC team for the championship?

Or I guess we could all just not watch such SEC conference games as AU/FLA, FLA/LSU, AU/UA, GA/TN, etc, but instead DVR them and watch them all January and pretend it is our own little national championship trourney.

poor rest-of-the-NCAA…. maybe one day you will compete.

I used to think a lot of people would change their tune after we won at Texas. Same went for when we beat Kansas State and Miami. We’ve heard that SOS crap non-stop since the beginning of the decade, and have thus scheduled Texas, USC, Va Tech, Cal, Okie, so on and so forth to stop your bitching. When we beat those teams, we’re still going to hear it.

tOSU plays @ USCw on September 13. If they get by them, they still have to go thru the Big 11, which may or may not be a challenge. SEC fans never seem to respect any teams other than their own. I wish Mallett had stayed at Michigan, and I’m a Spartan fan. The only reason there’s a Jimmy Clausen for Heisman Yakety-Sax clip but no Ryan Mallett clip is because Michigan’s defense was three times better than Notre Dame’s, the running backs and receivers were ten times better, and the offensive line was 372 times better.

Pants, they weren’t going to compete with the big boys with Mallett. That was the point. That, and this “Rodriguez ran him out of town and didn’t want him” thing is complete bullshit, because it’s clear Mallett had no interest in staying at all. I can understand he wanted to move closer to mommy and to a coach that has proven he can coach statue QBs. But Rodriguez didn’t “run him off”.

That Mallett wasn’t well-liked and that people thought he was a dick and hated his attitude was not a secret, this talk had been going around all season. It even came out on the sidelines during games. Lloyd going ballistic on him and Mallett looking like he didn’t care, the nationally televised screaming match with Manningham, etc.

As I said, no one thinks the team is going to be awesome this year — too much to learn, too many new faces with a lot of key guys leaving for the draft. That wouldn’t have changed even if Mallett was around. Penn State may finally win a game against Michigan this year.

What’s he majoring in? Learneding? I guess when Pryor saw he could pick up a hooker, who’s an undercover cop, get suspended, and then move to second string for a BCS ass whooping, he musta thought, “Yup! Dat bes da spotes for mes, youknowwhatimtalking’bout?”

Nice move Vestuble. You just brought in Maurice Clarrett Jr. Sure he’ll win a few games for ya, maybe even a national championship. It’s been like 2 hours since we all got a good laugh at the fact Pryor announced he was going to the “University of Ohio State.” The first thing he needs to invest his booster money in is a good publicist to keep him from saying stupid things like playing for a non-existent school or at least keep the AP from printing it as such.

As a poor Gator fan stuck in Ohio that is constantly subjected to their “crap,” I must say his “lack of enough sense to get his school’s name right” display added just the right “zing” against the “UofOS” continued argument that they really are trying to improve academics and admissions requirements.

I am giving him the 1% chance he was trying to throw the crowd with his announcement, but it certainly wasn’t reflected as such in any of the articles I saw that popped up this afternoon. The articles lack any mention of a dramatic pause, so I’m going to continue to go with the “what an idiot” reaction to his selection announcement.

As far as his actual decision – Tressel deserves his talents, OSU fans do NOT. Either choice would have been fine for the rest of the world as it would only really made a difference in the UM/OSU match up, but one reason I saw mentioned he thought he had a better chance of going to the NFL at OSU. Hmm, again bringing his intellect in questions – has he not heard of Tom Brady?!

It’s almost too perfect for Ohio State fans – to have a hyped up recruit butcher the NAME of your beloved institution at the very press conference where he commits his love, honor, respect, etc. Especially considering you’re the state school that gets off on everyone getting the formal name of your school right. I nominate the scene to be next fall’s Dr. Pepper commercial, courtesy of the SEC.
