CFBAs 2008: NOBODY DOES IT BETTER, SEC/MNC
We’re extremely late on this, so we have to double up and dash out two awards at once. Andiamo!
Best SEC Blog, Runner-up: Dawg Sports. Again: the leading policy wonk and brief writer of the SEC blog world deserves all of the kudos you care to heave his way. However, he suffered a narrow defeat to the Vols, just as his team did this year.
And the winner is…. The papa….The Papa! Joel of Rocky Top Talk takes the crown in the SEC this year. No one spans a greater range of core competencies in blogging, a resume line that while worth hundreds of cents in real life is most definitely worth at least $583.92 on the blogosphere. Don’t laugh–that’s certainly worth more than this site, laughing laugher-type person laughing at that.
Joel’s quick with the stats, comprehensive but not a bludgeon with the numbers, armed with a subtle but sardonic wit, and is an absolute monster with the Flash animation. Early adopter does not begin to describe him: if it’s a widget, gadget, thingamabob, or other new wrinkle, it will appear on RTT in hours, not days. A constant tinkerer from the MNC Races to his willingness to dive in headfirst on products with bearded lunatics, he’s the most dangerous of dangerous people: the quiet one no one sees coming. For that and more, we salute you, Joel. Salut!
Double up: The MNC.
Runner-up: MGoBlog. CFB’s frostiest blogger: stats, icy wit, and the best hair beard combo to get a person interrogated at any local airport of your choosing. MGoBlog could have easily won this award, were it not for….
Sunday Morning Quarterback. We already lauded him in an earlier post, but this but be mentioned again: There is no other writer on college football who comes close. Any other praise heaped on him would make us seem a little gay, and that’s fine, because we’re a little gay for SMQ and his indispensable writing. We’ll wear sleeveless tees and call you awesome all day, man.

Your writing…it makes it work!
Head over to Joel’s house to admire his shiny trophy and hear the winner of the People’s Champ Award around 6ish.

Poor form Phil
Your’e better than that.
The CFBA’s are meant to bring exposure to some of the lesser-known blogs out there. It’s not for everyone but the intentions are for the best. Yes, some of the more popular blogs win the big awards but the effort is there to try and get everyone some sort of recognition.
The work that Orson, Peter, Joel and Brian put in this year should be commended. It’s a lot of work running a blog and these guys went above and beyond the call to bring some of the other sites some recognition on top of running their own sites.
Seems a bit short-sighted to me.

Being the Radiohead devotee that I am I can’t possibly bitch, but wouldn’t Nate Dogg feat. Warren G – Nobody Does It Better have been just as apt? I have a hard time not envisioning SMQ and Orson jocking mad bitches at impromptu pool parties then sipping Courvoisier over a high stakes game of poker.

“Ow, My Balls!”
I actually have a hard time not picturing SMQ and Orson passed out cold on a tailgate-ready pool table on wheels in the middle of Atlanta at 11 in the morning.

oc phil – You couldn’t be more wrong. Orson, Peter, Brian, and Joel didn’t have to do this. It was a hell of a lot of work for them. Unlike most walks of life, these guys bust their ass to help blogs that are lesser known (and not as good) as theirs. If not for them, no one would know who we are. It’s not the awards themselves but the fact that the guys we respect most are acknowledging us.
Many thanks and much respect to the committee, and to the CFBAS.
That is all.

I enojyed the awards this year. I’m basically a one-blog man, with an occasional trot over to RTT to see the animated blogpoll (underrated btw). Other than that I really didn’t read many other blogs.
But then the movers and skakers compiled the year’s best work, and I thank them for it. I’m sure I’ll be visiting Black Heart Gold Pants in the future, especially if Iowa continues to suck. (Brilliance blooms in adversity) I’ll be making my way to Burnt Orange Nation for my Big XII fix and the occasional peek into the evil empire. And for when I want to feel really, really stupid, I’ll swing by SMQ and attempt to increase my football IQ (”The Zone Read, Blocking, and You”).
If your goal was to increase exposure of the upper-end college football blogs… let me say mission accomplished gentlemen.

$583?
Is this dollar value the acutal amount of revenue generated by Rocky Top Talk, or is it some kind of subjective blog rating system?
I didn’t assume that blogging was extremely profitable but I figured that thousands of peoples internet time would be worth a little more than that.
With that in mind, please give out all the awards you guys want to. I certainly appreciate your efforts and any incentives or recognition you get is well deserved.
Maybe I need to finally break down, support your spnosors and get a Zwinky.

Bama_Buck @ 15, I think the cash value of college football blogs is measured in lost productivity. Which, sadly, means that $583 and change is about right in my case.

After informing SMQ about a significant mistake in an article in which he was clearly wrong, he proceeded to blow me off and refused to acknowledge his mistake. I’ve lost a lot of respect in what I once thought was a great blog. It’s especially hard to stomach EDSBS gush about the wonder that is SMQ.

After informing KFC about a significant mistake in an order in which they were clearly wrong, they proceeded to blow me off and refused to acknowledge this mistake. I’ve lost a lot of respect in what I once thought was a great alternative to Popeye’s. It’s especially hard to stomach the re-animated corpse of Colonel Sanders gush about the wonder that is KFC.
