Around SBN: The End Of Sabanball: Details, Barbarians, And Precision

FOR NO APPARENT REASON

The title explains why we're posting this, other than it was sent to us, and it's funny. (Though perhaps its some sort of fair and balanced bitching we've had on the blog about Auburn today, but only inadvertently so.)

Just watch Saban keep popping up. Stranko's rule: if it's funny once, it's funny every single time ! (HT: Taylor.)

UPDATE: Maybe there's a reason for Bobby endlessly beating someone up out of frustration: Florida State has placed itself on probation for two years and up to 60 athletes will lose some eligibility. While we're all at it, we're going to place ourselves on probation for excessive profanity. Fuck, that's a great idea! I get to judge me! Hell fucking yes!

“Florida State officials conducted the investigation with assistance from the NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference and a consulting firm.”

A consulting firm? Is that the code for “Florida State Legislature”? Nice job punishing the kids.

What a coincidence that this comes out just AFTER signing day. That’s okay, I am sure they were up-front about it with all the recruits.

Can someone get LSU Freek on the job of putting various half-ass-u “officials” into some vintage Animal House “double secret probation” footage?

Thanks in advance.

The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our answer sheets; we did. (winks) But you can’t hold a whole football team responsible for the behavior of a few cheating, deceitful individuals. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole college football system? And if the whole college football system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, NCAA! Isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do what you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you bad-mouth the United States of America! Gentlemen!

by yoyofutbawl on Feb 14, 2008 5:25 PM EST reply actions

Aubs, shouldn’t you all be calling into local radio shows desperately attempting to rationalize your shitty recruiting class? After all, that’s what your head coach is spending his time doing.

by SGC on Feb 14, 2008 5:41 PM EST reply actions

That just gets better and better. Kind of like whack-a-mole, except it is whack-a-saban/satan/snake oil salesman/overpaid coach…

RE: 4 hour training session called “Decision-Making in the NCAA Compliance Environment.”

That merits, yea, demands a fine piece of satire unto itself.

Sounds like instructions for a trust fund baby in Vegas.

by Pirate_mate on Feb 14, 2008 5:53 PM EST reply actions

#27, 2004 was a shitty recruiting class too. That class is 42-7.

2008 is ranked higher than 2004’s class.

ULaMonroe, on the other hand, hasn’t ever had a class ranked in the top 50.

Get your shots in while ya can, Barners, the Death Star is under construction and will be functional by 2009.
Click on my link to see my blog thoughts on this whole deal…….
We know that Auburn didnt need any in state recruits this year since all the slots were full, and for the last 6 of 7 yrs AU has had the lions share of in state recruits, and even 9 yrs later, has no National Championships.
Yep, 6 in a row is all well and good, but if you dont get a National Championship this year with ALL the talent you have coming back, it will be another 9 yrs before you get a shot at the SEC Championship, much less a National Championship or a undefeated season—-shouldnt have scheduled the Citadel that yr or you would have been able to get crushed by USC…I give Tubs 3 yrs or less to make something more relevant than beating Bama before the admin realizes that he cant keep firing Offen. Coor or allowing good Def Coord. leave before a change is made….what Barners dont realize is that many of the games have been close, even with the talent advantage Auburn had on Bama, one or two plays here or there on Bamas side and things would be different, but there were more playmakers on AU, now Bama is getting some playmakers and we will see how that will look once the talent level is shifted, which it has——
depth was the main thing AU had on Bama, now once Saban gets HIS players and can improve Bama like he improved LSU with Mobile’s talent (He had Chevis Jackson and Jamarcus Russell @ LSU) and he got more 4/5 star talent from Mobile this year than any other school, in state or out of state, and that is a good start. The main difference between Alabama and Auburn——Auburn beats Alabama, no SEC champs,no MNC game……We beat Auburn, I promise ya we go to the SEC champ game and will be in play for a MNC in 2-3 yrs……IF Saban didnt think he could win a MNC at Alabama within 4 yrs, I promise ya he wouldnt be here….Tubs dont have Rick Trickett for the Mobile Connection, and Alabama has their own version of Rick Trickett with Lance Thompson.
Who is Rick Trickett? The most prolific recruiter of talent from Mobile and Baldwin County that eventually go pro everywhere he has been====Jamarcus Russell, Chevis Jackson, Dameyune Craig, Pat White all studs….Lance Thompson got 10 recruits with an average of 4 stars from this area, and that hasnt been done in along time….this years class was a “shot across the bow” just to get AU attention, and based on Tubs comments today, looks like we got it…….

by Mr Pelican Pants on Feb 15, 2008 12:35 AM EST reply actions

Your irrationally optimistic ramblings have been noted, Pelican. I’ll remember them when Bama still hasn’t even made the SECCG by 2010.

by TIGERinATL on Feb 15, 2008 8:07 AM EST reply actions

Look, I get that Saban’s a good recruiter and a solid coach, but this national championship talk is a tad premature. Hell, Georgia’s loaded next season and even I’m not expecting a national title. Bear in mind that in Saban’s career he’s had one great season and several good ones sprinkled among some mediocrity. Assuming he stays long enough, I wouldn’t be surprised by an SEC title game appearance, or even an SEC title, but it ain’t happening as soon as 2009.

by Biggus Rickus on Feb 15, 2008 8:45 AM EST reply actions

That’s obviously not Bobby Bowden hitting Saban—he’s wearing a tie!

by We Are...Penn State email list on Feb 15, 2008 9:17 AM EST reply actions

NewAZ,

Not that I’m at all surprised you managed to miss it, the point was that your head coach is spending his time these days calling into local radio shows, attempting to publicly rationalize the shitty class he just signed (and being incredibly disingenuous in the process).

Yes, Alabama lost to Louisiana-Monroe—it was a compelling testament to the losers Mike Shula filled our program with. It’s games like ULM that’ll make what you and I both know is imminent that much sweeter.

“Yes, Alabama lost to Louisiana-Monroe–it was a compelling testament to the losers Mike Shula filled our program with. It’s games like ULM that’ll make what you and I both know is imminent that much sweeter.”

What’s funny is Bama beat ULM the year before, with Shula at the helm, and many of the same “losers” playing.

by MiseanAuFan on Feb 15, 2008 11:04 AM EST reply actions

…it was a compelling testament to the losers Mike Shula filled our program with.

Alabama’s 2004-2007 signing class rankings: #15, #18, #11, #10, respectively.

Try again. Saban coached this “pathetic” bunch to a 0.500 regular season.

If not talent, then what was the real secret to Saban’s LSU success? Answer: Jimbo Fisher and Will Muschamp.

by TIGERinATL on Feb 15, 2008 11:04 AM EST reply actions

Oh, those rankings are per Rivals if you want to go back and check.

by TIGERinATL on Feb 15, 2008 11:05 AM EST reply actions

Thanks for the mindless ramblings, Pelicunt.
Of course you make those arguments:

Now that Alabama couldn’t beat their meat in an Iron Bowl, all of a sudden 6 years in a row doesn’t matter. When you guys roll, that’s all that matters. Now you guys can’t win against us and it’s all about titles. We win some titles and it’s about recruiting. We recruit and it will be about coolest mascot. Our mascot beats up you elephant and all of a sudden “hey look over there! something shiny! WOOOOO!” Always another distraction from reality with you guys…
Now that you have a coach who has a nat’l ring, you’re talking Death Star in ’09. funny.
-“a few plays the other way”
this logic has already been proven false many times on this site. For example: A few plays go our way and Alsbama could have beat the Patriots this season- yeh, if every time we touch the ball we score, and we pick Brady off a few times, then yes, we could have. If Sean Taylor hadn’t been in florida that night he may still be alive. If you didn’t love to eat cock, you wouldn’t be gay. See- you can always play the “If, Then” game to make it work in your favor.

There is always some other reason that Alabama fans think their teams are better than Auburn, and vice versa. Excuses for Alabama fans are more prevalent than cocaine and vinerreal disease on your campus.

damn glad to have this site- makes the off season a lot less suicidal…

#40, “Excuse me miss, I speak fag”…..
Yeh you forget one thing……Tubs has yet to win a National Title as a Head Coach……any-fucking-where…..hell even Terry Bowden went undefeated at Auburn…Terry Fuckin Bowden….
One way or another, Alabama will get to the MNC before Auburn….The way I see it, Georgia will get there, then Fla, then Bama, and at least Bama is making an effort to get there, Barners are content to sit back and let their coach make excuses…well Muschamp left the Defense loaded, we will see if that new guy can do anything with it……Let Nick Saban get one or two more Top 5 classes while Tubs is content with #25 and see how far the tables turn, if YOUR coach decides to stay there since everyone else is leaving since they know the party is over….nice lil run had there with NO National Championship……9 fucking years is long enough with the “great talent” that Auburn has had……The coach we have has been there before, following the same blueprint he did at LSU, and if you cant see the writing on the wall, you must be keeping your head down from depression, or recruit envy……Payback is coming bitches, keep writing checks your coach cant cash, especially that MNC he aint got as a head coach……
