TOPICS OF CONVERSATION FOR EDSBS LIVE

Join us for EDSBS Live tonight at 7 p.m. E.S.T. for our special signing day edition. Among the questions and topics of interest we'll be discussing:

--Pete Carroll, Wii Champion? Working on his charitable organization at 2:00 a.m.? Waking to the Who and playing Christmas songs in the office? Do you wonder if Pete Carroll has an Achilles heel as a person being and spirit? Oh, yes, we forgot. He can't coach in the pros. And doesn't he look miserable for it!

--Alabama claims Rivals' national recruiting title. Will they claim it as their 56th national title, along with the crowns for Bud Bowl III and their "Hottest Old Lady" trophy claimed for having Sela Ward as an alum?

--Will Urban steal a recruit yet in a very good day for Florida despite the loss of two high-profile studs? And if so, how long can one hold a cloth loaded with chloroform over a mouth without killing the person, because we're totally helping him do this if a defensive tackle or cornerback is involved, and need to know to avoid a second-degree murder charge.

--Why did Tennessee only sign nine actual prospects and instead stock the rest of their class with guys hastily pulled off janitorial detail?

--Did Notre Dame's class really add up as the best, and if so, how can Tyrone Willingham be blamed for the success?

--HOW THE FUCK DOES TY WILLINGHAM GET PEOPLE TO PLAY FOOTBALL FOR HIM? ARE DISORIENTING LIGHTS AND SLEEP DEPRIVATION INVOLVED?

--The director of the CIA admitted that they did, in fact, waterboard three detainees. Still, he will not call it torture. Now, whatever Rick Neuheisel does to get recruits? Oh yeah. That's totally fucking torture, and you can quote me, Senator.

--Where does one plug in a Tom Lemming? In a vault with Mel Kiper, Jim McKay, Phil Liggett, and every other sports personality used exactly once a year?

--Will Sam McGuffie actually sign with Michigan? If so, when will they realize they've signed a white running back? A month? Two months?

--Remember that question up there with Willingham? Insert "Tommy Bowden," repeat.

--Did Miami enlist the services of Luther Campbell to recruit such a stellar class? If not, what would they be if they actually did? (Answer: completely fucking awesome in a thong and a cold martini in hand, that's what. )

We'll cover it all tonight. Listen by pressing play on the EDSBS Live Sidebar over on the right thurr.

Hear you then, --Os.

Oh, and Urban Meyer can’t possibly be an asshole. I saw him with an ash cross on his forehead while being interviewed by “College Football Live”. He is therefore without a doubt a good Christian. We all know they can’t be dicks about anything.

Either that or he is just very sly about putting on his nice guy persona. Who knows?

Tommy has Jesus on his side, and not that creepy Catholic Jesus that all the Yankees pray to, either.

Good old fashioned Protestant Jesus. FCA Jesus. Young Life Jesus….Jesus Camp Jesus.

Anyway, after that remark, I have decided against calling in tonight, as I will be celebrating the possibility of losing games we should win with superior talent. I am confident I will be missed.

Can you download the episodes to your IPOD?

The answer to the Tommy Bowden question could be that Clemson is now a seminary school. The good reverend Bowden is focusing on the spiritual side of football to bring in the recruits. He’s using God to help recruits ignore the fact that he can’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

  1. - You still won’t have an offense.

Nix is certainly not the answer, and I don’t see the next big offensive genius dying to be Shannon’s OC after you go 7-5 next season.

You guys are going to lose several baseball score games in the next couple of seasons.

If you fire Shannon and just start over, I bet you can make good use of all that talent you are bringing in.

Click on my name to see the unfortunate ending to the Nevada high school senior who claimed to have an offer from Cal, and had a press conference at his school.

I believe it was on one of the Daily Rundowns under the title, “That is one way to go about it…”

My Yankee Jesus will guilt the shit out of your southern fried Hey-sus.

Has anyone considered the possibility that McGuffie is really an internets myth? (I mean besides all those facts, like the Army all-star game). Seriously, how can we believe he’s real when Iowa was never involved in the process. The only fast white people in college football go to Iowa. The rest are only rumored to exist and like the Russian snow leopard have only been caught on film once.

  1. I’ve been following that story for a while. Pretty unfortunate. If it’s me being recruited. I’m not signing anything unless I’ve met face to face w/ the head coach. And I’ll google image him before that now.

goddamn you EDSBS Live and your derailment of my attempts to “read the pertinent literature.”

#5: I’d sell my grandparents to go 7-5 next season. Thanks for trying to read my mind and infer my opinions from a one syllable word, though. Nice try.

by Rilo on Feb 6, 2008 7:41 PM EST reply actions

WE all know that Alabama’s greatest scoring threat has been their kicker. Despite that reality, there are probably T-shirts already out that say “Roll Tide 2008 National Champions!”.

I guess this was the special Terrelle Pryor edition of the Signing Day Edition of EDSBS Live — it was supposed to occur at a certain time today, but it’s not.

I promise we will get better results with our recruiting class than Notre Dame will. And we got ours for a lot better bargain. Plus the fact they wont have to go to church and all that other stuff that gets in the way of watching film, like family.
Signed,
Nick Saban

“?HOW THE FUCK DOES TY WILLINGHAM GET PEOPLE TO PLAY FOOTBALL FOR HIM? ARE DISORIENTING LIGHTS AND SLEEP DEPRIVATION INVOLVED?”

The “Now watch this shot.” refrain and the apparent complete lack of giving a shit about anything fool them into thinking it’s the OBC. When they get out there, he dispassionately demonstrates his golfing ability on the skull of a disobedient 1-star, thus terrifying the rest of them into signing. Even Jake Locker couldn’t outrun those balls.

by Michael on Feb 6, 2008 11:26 PM EST reply actions

How in the fuck do you sign 33 guys???? No wonder Alabama has the top ranked class, they signed 33 fucking guys…that’s not rocket science.

Here’s something I would like to see added to the fuzzy math these recruiting rankings use…how many official visits did a school conduct and out of those visits how many kids did they land.

Jim Tressel had 26 visits and landed 19 of them…with Terrelle still in the balance it could be 20 of 26.

Back to Dick Saban and the Criminal Tide, 33 fucking recruits….33. How in the fuck is that possible????

Don’t we have enough fuzzy math in the BCS formula for ranking teams…how we are all going to become slaves to recruiting rankings just like the BCS.

As if fucking up our bowl system and creating bogus conference championship games to drum up more cash for the conferences wasn’t enough to start ruining college football, let’s now add recruiting ranking and sucking the lifeblood out of high school athletes to the list of things that will eventually lead to the demise of college college football and what it was supposed to be.

Why doesn’t the SEC just leave the NCAA and create a semi-pro league where you can have your official draft, playoff system, and superbowl game…

TAFKATOSB,
I tried to add that shit up myself..but I didn’t have enough time in between trying on my new Stage 3 body armor and sharpening my hatchet. I guess I’ll ask the lady at the liquer store when I get work release.

#20, those schools with more than 25 are only allowed to enroll 25 of the commits by NCAA rule. Some of those people will not academically qualify, grayshirt, or get into too much trouble before they can officially count towards the Fulmer Cup.

There was a sliver of truth to Big 10 commish Delaney calling out the SEC’s academic standards in that the Big 10 has it’s own rule: you can only offer qualifiers and there is a 25 limit period. If someone is offered but does not qualify, that scholarship is burned for a year. So you can’t take chances on players you know are marginal academically, like Notre Dame did athletically when Willingham was coach. A school like Bama, they overstock and are banking that 4-5 will not qualify, or some JUCO’s are already enrolled so don’t count against the limit, or they will grayshirt some guys, making them pay their own way for the fall, but then yielding a scholarship the next spring.

by MBD on Feb 7, 2008 4:01 AM EST reply actions

Teams that signed 30 or more players in the top 25 of the rankings: Alabama, Miami, Florida State, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss. Huh, four of those aren’t in the SEC, one of those four is in the Big 10. Weird.

don’t underestimate the saban’s ability to convince some players currently on scholarship that “maybe another school would be a better fit for you…i really need to get mr. (insert bad ass from signing day) a scholly…and frankly, i didn’t even recruit you.”

by gerry dorsey on Feb 7, 2008 7:54 AM EST reply actions

Wow, TOSU, hate much?

I can see how someone would be so upset after the last two National Championships.

by Steve on Feb 7, 2008 10:27 AM EST reply actions

Adding to #22’s explanation of the “process” -

Anyone who enrolls in the spring (this semester) can count against the 2007 cap of 25, but only if ‘BAMA didn’t reach that limit last year….you would need to back out the number of spring enrollees to make a rough estimate unless you know exactly how many hit the cap (not capstone) in 2007.

by Studley on Feb 7, 2008 9:17 PM EST reply actions

2 from this year’s class get to go back to 2007, both are already enrolled (Chris Jackson and Corey Smith) as Kerry Murphy and Mike Ford did not qualify (but Ford was able to qualify at South Florida). Another recruit Jamar Taylor enrolled early-but apparently had family (I think a child as well) and left the school and was able to play right away at South Florida as well.

Alabama also had 3 scholarship players transfer during the year (OL Alex Stadler, LB Zach Schreiber, and QB Jimmy Barnes). I expect a couple to not qualify and perhaps a couple to greyshirt as well.
