JONES TO BAMA
Julio Jones, top five recruit overall and the number one WR on most people’s boards, commits to Bama in a low-key announcement without hat-switching or any other such dickheadedness.
Le Film:
Frightening stuff. He’s birth-certificate-check material for parents in the opposing stands, as he really does look like a full-grown dude running against middle-schoolers in a lot of those clips.

Because Bama’s back, just in case you didn’t hear Mark Gottfried the first 80 times he said it.

If so, how did Jamie Harper look?
Oh, and tell Mr. Hussein that Dwayne Allen had a change of heart.
Keep Harmon, as we “stole” McClain from Alabama and Auburn.
And by stole, I meant we were his 2nd choice behind Alabama until Alabama decided they wanted some other more.
Off to pine after Jerriel Harris…

i’ll preface this by acknowledging this kid is incredible. but don’t you feel like some of these highly touted recruits abuse the cutback move far too much and that you know it won’t work at any higher of a level?

Coop,
No more bitchy comments about Harmon? There’s a bright side to Allen’s switcharoo after all. Though I don’t really get it. Does Clemson ever throw to the tight end?

The only bright side I can see for your guys is that Omar Hunter switches to Georgia as you have an open scholarship, but for all I know he has already sent in his LOI to Florida.
Anyway, I will be watching Mr. Harmon’s career with great interest.
I mean, hell, we gave Richt’s kid a scholarship so he can call signals in and become President of Clemson’s FCA chapter…
and this is how you repay us?
The funny thing about Allen is that, had he played at any other school in the state of North Carolina, he would have dropped Georgia a LONG time ago.

As for throwing to the TE, Spence, Clemson’s OC goes out of his way to say his offense really emphasizes throwing to the TE, but so far it has not come to fruition.
Truthfully, we have not had a Ben Watson or Leonard Pope lining up for us under Spence, but we do now, so we will see.

I just saw that Rivals has ND as the #1 class. Don’t they nearly always have a top 5 recruiting class according to Rivals? Or did Charlie have two bad recruiting classes of his own? Oh well, they’re getting closer and closer to their pre-season top ten ranking.

It’s one player. I’m not all that concerned, TE being a position Georgia has done a nice job of stockpiling and developing over the years. It would have been nice to have swayed Hunter at the last second, but oh well, one more scholly next year.

Bama’s haul is sick.
Conversely, Auburn’s is, um, not so much.
I think I would take Tubs over Saban with equal talent, but soon enough Saban’s talent level will overcome any coaching shortcomings he might have.
I mean, after all, in his 11-1 season at LSU, they lost to Zook at home.

While we did get a sick haulb (just imagining a spread offense with Ivan Matchett/Mark Ingram as our rb’s and Star Jackson tossing to Julio!!!) I think that the some other teams absolutely cleaned-the-fuck-up too:
The above mentioned Clemson; Da U quietly got a massive, nasty class; and, despite all odds, Big Blue. Of course, there were the usual suspects USC, UF, UGA, etc.
But, I think the most damning indictment of the day goes to Papa Bowden’s program and the Boogs: did y’all see how many time the Noles and Barners were bridesmaids?

Florida State finished in the top 10 in the nation and losing out on Alabama kids to Alabama is no shame.
FSU’s recruiting was a step up this year from previous seasons.

Der Schatten says:
Coop, then Noles always have talent; and, unless they hire Mike Shula, they always will. I was more referring to backyard players like TJ Bryant, Melvin Ray, etc.
They did have a good haul, but it reminded me in some respects of when Saban was at LSU and came and picked the Gulf Coast clean, and *we* lost control of our backyard. Or, what Fulmer used to do in Huntsvegas and Flo-Town. Not being a sympathy troll here, just looking at kids in Tallahassee that, for some reason or another, weren’t locked down by FSU since they were in the 8th grade.

I’m not going overboard with celebrations of future victories just yet but I can’t remember a day in which my beloved Tide brought in this much talent. It is certainly going to go a long way towards improving the chances within the conference.
Once again the SEC overall comes up huge. How long until a conference chairman comes out and discusses recruiting and admittance policies this year.
