DICKROD: WVU RENEGED ON BUYOUT CONTRACT
Rich Rodriguez thought the first attempt to resign went so badly, well, he’d just try it again:
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — More than two weeks after he was sued over a $4 million buyout clause in his contract at West Virginia, Rich Rodriguez turned in a second resignation letter, claiming university president Mike Garrison reneged on a deal to reduce and possibly eliminate that clause.
Jeffrey Wakefield, the school’s attorney in the case, denied Friday that such a promise was made.
And that’s your story, essentially unchanged from day one: he said/we said. Oh, and your obilgatory, never piss off a West Virginian item of the day.

I think this video is a masterpiece.
But I also think “There Will Be Blood” and “Atonement” were both huge letdowns.

Sure, writing “sucks” on a t-shirt is uninspired, but at least he isn’t harrassing children and old people. For an angry West Fucking Virginia fan he’s downright debonaire.

I was pretty dismayed that someone would make the effort to videotape himself writing “sucks” on a t-shirt, until I realized I watched all 30 seconds of the clip. In any case, I wish Al-Qaeda would adopt this format for their videos.

Coop, I think the collective intelligentsia at EDSBS uses USCw for the school in Los Angeles and USCe for Spurrier’s Home for Wayward Boys.
We Southerners have trouble with initials (down here UM is Meeami, see what I mean).

as a west virginian who was neither born there nor went to school at WfVU but lived there most of his formative years until escaping to north carolina and nyc, respectively, i’m very disappointed the video guy didn’t at least try to burn the t-shirt. i mean, we used to drive to vt with couches in the bed of the pick-up when we played down there.

A friend of mine who is an actual lawyerin’ person informed me that the reason for a buy-out is to help offset losses caused by RR leaving the contract early (coaching searches and the like), not to be punitive. I think he explained to me that this is the basis for RR challenging the $4 million, that the amount was excessive and punitive. Given how quickly they hired and how little they hired for, that might help his cause.
Of course, I’m not a lawyerin’ type myself, so take that with a grain of salt.

Oh, and a friendly reminder to my friends in Cola:
In 49 states and every other country in the world…
Carolina is in Chapel Hill. Carolina is in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Conversely, in approximately 45 states…
USC is in Los Angeles. USC is in the Pacific 10 Conference, which had an enjoyable basketball contest between UCLA and Oregon, last evening.

Jesus, Tar Heel fan, you either finished Carolina or are a Carolina fan, nobody has more sidewalk alumnae than Carolina, thus…
be more clever.
We have a reputation to uphold. We = the family (sans VPI, as they aren’t really in the ACC, trust me, I will figure out a way to evict them.)

Ok, what I don’t understand is why he is contesting it in the first place. Why is Michigan not just paying the $4mil. and everybody moving on with their lives? This leaves me to consider which of the following four events occurred:
1) Michigan convince RR to sign but refused to cover the buyout.
2) Michigan and RR decided to see if they really had to pay the buyout
3) RR told Michigan they wouldn’t have to pay the buyout
4) WVU agreed to nix the buyout and reneged
If anybody else has any suggestions, please I would like to hear them

Reality Show-Time Dept:
I would put Rodriguez on that game show where they hook the ‘contestants’ to a lie detector test and ask tough questions.
If Rodriguez answers truthfully, he gets off scott-free. If not the Univ of West F Virginia gets it $4 mill. But, prior to THAT question, I would ask him the following question:
1) Coach Rod, do you put a bag over your wife’s head, or you wish you could put a bag over her head prior to making whoopee?
2) Do you still feel like an a-hole for not taking the ‘Bama job last year for $4 mill per year?

I don’t know what’s worse. That this story won’t go away, or the volumes of poorly done video’s coming out of WV. It’s making the flesh merchants of high school recruiting look pretty cool by comparison.

If at first you don’t suceed…write another resignation letter? I’m confused.
Also, the guy in the video is a comic genius. “Sucks.” Why waste time with creativity when you can shoot straight at the heart?
I would hire him at EDSBS, Swindle. Your comedy, while unique, is a little to high-brow for those simple West Virginians. This guy can help reach out to WVU fans, as well as the 2-4 y/o demographic so coveted by sports bloggers these days.

Jesus, I hope someone’s banning all these slashdot dickwads.
on the topic at hand RR is pretty well F’d if this is true. I’m no lawer but I know enough to know that what’s signed carries a most of the weight in a contract dispute than what one side claims the other said. They also usually carry a clause that incorporate all previous agreements, written or otherwise.

Who gets to rewrite a resignation letter? And how can you expect it to mean anything a month (and a lawsuit) later?
