FULMER CUPDATE! COWPUNCHER TURNS COP-PUNCHER
The first scoreboard update for the Fulmer Cup begins with classic material and new developments. First, the scoreboard, brought to you as always by Brian, who is hung like Reggie Fucking Nelson:

Classic: Georgia can’t drive. For three years now, we’ve been advocating the hiring of a motor vehicles supervisor for the University of Georgia Bulldogs, who never manage to do anything really heinous around town but rack up distorted Fulmer Cup scores thanks to their inability to drive legally or register a vehicle properly.
In this year’s model, one night featured two UGA classics in row. They happened sequentially, as if packaged for our convenient consumption:
University of Georgia police arrested cornerback Donavon Baldwin, 21, for improper driving and driving under the influence at 3:05 a.m. Sunday.
Fullback Fred Munzenmaier, 19, was arrested 34 minutes later by university police for underage possession of alcohol and being a pedestrian walking in the roadway.
We assess UGA four points in all for the two offenses: two for the DUI, one for the improper driving, and one for the underage possession/behavior risking becoming a human speed bump.
Washington State safety Xavier Hicks earns second-degree assault charges for soaking his teammate Grady Maxwell’s contact lenses in rubbing alcohol. Maxwell avoided any harm–he did not put on the lenses, and was presumably tipped off by Hicks suggesting repeatedly “Hey, why don’t you put in your contact lenses, hmmmm???–and is evidently pressing charges with ferocity. We would, too: the worst we ever did to any dorm mate was hanging a banner outside our friend Weo’s window announcing that he was both gay and proud. See, he wasn’t gay! That’s what made it FUNNY. “Hate crime.” Whatever.
WSU is awarded four points: three for the assault per Fulmer Cup statutes, and one bonus point for total dickheadedness by Hicks in this case.
And our new leader: Oklahoma State. Courtesy of tight end Brandon Pettigrew, who kept it real with a local police officer following a fight involving “10-15 people” in downtown Stillwater this past Sunday morning.
The 6-foot-6, 260-pound Pettigrew and others were told to disperse, but Pettigrew refused to leave, Metcalf said. With his elbow, Pettigrew allegedly struck an officer in the chest, Metcalf said.
At that size, he’s lucky he didn’t get tasered within an inch of incontinence by local law enforcement officials. For individual arrests involving people as big as Pettigrew, we’re fairly certain it’s well within the statues of most states to call in airstrikes on them if necessary. Pettigrew was charged with assault on a police officer and public intoxication, meaning a total of five points are assessed for the charges: three for assault, one for being drunk in pub-lick, and one bonus point for hitting a cop. Do we need to explain that hitting a cop is egregiously wrong and deserving of bonus points? No, we don’t.
There we go, Coach Gundy. Hit us with our own tirade. We can take it, being a man, though not forty.
Penn State is still noted on there for the refiled charges from last year because, frankly, we’re still on the fence here. Last year’s charges refiled for this year’s points just feels so cheap and reheated.

To not allow Louisville’s points makes no sense. Their season was over, just as Penn State’s season was over, yet Penn State’s points count twice.
This is akin to Rivals counting commits twice in their rankings because the commits were too dumb to qualify straight out of high school.
To deny Louisville points is to proclaim, once again, “the terrorists have won.”
The Cardinals should not be doubly penalized for their putrid season.
Teams get extra practices for bowl games, teams that don’t receive bowl bids should get extra Fulmer Cup time.
Really, quite simple.

#9 is right. Mizzou totally got some fun points from our backup DE. He was found with marijuana, no big deal. Oh, and cocaine, yeah, that’s kinda a biggie. What? There’s more? Shit, apparently he had an “assortment of pills” too. Yeah, I think that is at least a couple points. We might move to #1 like we did in one of the BCS pollls. HOORAY Mizzou=2007 National Champs in football. It is fact, according to the Anderson-Hester poll. I never thought I’d see a National Championship in FB while I was at school in Mizzou.

Louisville’s points should count. Their season was over, so instead of practicing for a bowl they are playing for the cup. They are already playing at a handicap since Willie Williams was dismissed. He was worth enough to win the FC by himself and sweep the ETJ3 award.

The Athens paper gave some color to the Munzie shenanigans. He does desrve a style point or two:
“Munzenmaier was arrested after an officer patrolling Milledge Avenue near its intersection with Dearing Street about 3 a.m. noticed him stepping into the street waving his arms. The officer slammed on his brakes to avoid running over him, according to the incident report, and asked for his ID.
The officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol.
Munzenmaier told the officer he thought the police car was a taxi.
After the comment about losing two games, the officer asked Munzenmaier what sport he played.
“Look at me,” the 6-foot-1, 225-pound Duluth native said, according the report. “What sport do you think I play?”
Munzenmaier told the officer it was obvious that “we” have it “out for them,” according to the report, and that police have a point system for athletes. The officer told Munzenmaier he had no idea that he was an athlete when he stopped his vehicle, nor did he care. Munzenmaier later used an expletive to tell the officer to shut his mouth because he didn’t want to make small talk, according to the report.”

I think staggering the beginning of the Fulmer Cup season is confusing and patently unfair. I realize the beginning of the real CFB season is somewhat erratic, but only a matter of days, not weeks.
Bowl teams like Georgia should not be penalized by some johnny-come-lately 5th-degree felony that occurred between the regular season and the bowls.
Such activity should be consider pre-season and should only count for schools that include their spring intersquad game as a victory.

I’m a big fan of asterisks and an even bigger fan of seeing my team on the scoreboard, but I must state for the record that Penn State’s potential points should just be tossed. It’s something that happened during the season and had to be refiled in front of a judge from a different county.
Then again, it happened during a black fraternity’s “party walk” and actually involved a combatant saying “I’m fronting on you and I’ll do what I want!”. Like “A Different World”. In the middle of Pennsyltucky. Maybe we do deserve points, after all.
Also, Jasmine Guy was kind of hot.

The Big Dog says:
#10 Coop — Penn State’s points wouldn’t count twice because they were pulled from the board last year, IIRC.
Ok, my take on the Penn State controversy…
The options:
1. Put the points back on the board that were taken down when the initial charges were dropped or reduced.
2. Award the points retroactively and reissue the 2007 Cup.
3. Do nothing, award no points.
I don’t think you can let it go without awarding any points as if it never happened. However, I agree that it doesn’t feel right to award points this year for last year’s transgressions. Nor would I be comfortable taking the Cup away from Illinois, which you have to do if you awarded the points retroactively (although you could declare a co-champion, kind of like the double gold medal for that figure skating mess a few years back).
So I advocate a compromise solution –
4. Award half the points toward this year’s total that would have been awarded last year if the charges had never been dropped in the first place.
It’s an acknowledgement that the incident is Cup-worthy and may yet have an effect on Penn State’s future, but it doesn’t exaggerate the incident by awarding full credit for past incidents, nor does it affect last year’s outcome.
May prudence and wisdom guide you.

I mentioned this in the previous thread, but it was pretty far late already, so…
Penn State’s chargers were NOT refiled from last year’s Fulmer Cup. They were refiled from the season. The incident in question occurred in October.
We’re not talking about a months-long refiling here. The incident occurred in October, the charges were dropped in December due to lack of evidence, and refiled in January.
