RICH BOYZ GET DEM CADILLAX:

Throwin' some D's on Cadillax: the following players are out in one way or another following the bowl season, either leaving for greener pastures or throwing hats into the NFL draft.

Pat Sims of Auburn is taking his bear-sized self to the NFL. As someone who watched Sims wreck Florida's blocking schemes in person, he will be missed only by Auburn fans and aficionados of bear attacks.

Messrs. Manningham, Arrington, and Mallett are all leaving Michigan for the NFL. Arrington and Manningham are taking off for the NFL, while traditional, drop-back statue Mallett will be leaving the new spread-option offense of Rodriguez for another team where he won't have to do nasty things like running the option.

Florida State LB Geno Hayes is taking his amazing tolerance for tasering and ability to incorrectly predict the outcome of rivalry games pro, and if there's any justice in this world, he'll end up a Bengal.

Will they be tasering Geno at the Combine or at a private workout?

We will miss Pat Sims next year. He could have been a high first round pick with a senior year similar to his junior year. He should still go in the second or third round with a good combine.

I’ve always styled myself an aficionado of bear attacks. Sadly, since Colbert has been raising the issue of exactly how deadly bears are, there have been a decreasing number of enjoyable maulings.

I’ve also said for years that Paul Posluszny was a bear capable of a mauling only to have it fall on deaf ears.

Bobby Petrino is taking a break from eating the souls of dead Nuns to place a call to Ryan Mallett’s cell…

I thought that Neuheisel was hiring Michigan’s QB coach to get Mallett to transfer – cracking one out of the Houston Nutt playbook, in other words. Although Neuheisel’s not crazy enough to hire a HS coach, of course, so there is that difference.

6 – Mitch Mustain is going to be pissed when he’s watching Sanchez lead SC to a title and Petrino is hucking the ball around Arkansas to please the locals. But then again…Fuck Mitch Mustain. I always side with Houston Nutt.

Sims left in fear that he’d get chop-blocked in chop-block drills at AU.

Of course, it he was still at Arkansas, Nutt probably would be, too.

Mallett can’t go pro, he’s transferring.

by Exile on Broadway on Jan 9, 2008 1:55 PM EST reply actions

What exactly would prevent App State’s QB from transferring to Michigan and starting next year? We already know he can win in the Big House.

Seriously, I think a guy from D-1AA can transfer to a D-1A school without sitting out a year (at least it works in the opposite direction). He’s already won two national titles, will only be a Junior next year, and if he transfers may end up on the Heisman short-list for next season. There was already light buzz (a la Gordie Lockbaum) about him for the Heisman despite being in D-1AA.

You offering that dude on the front porch for Mustache Wednesday?

Piss-poor, if you are.

  1. - Petrino and Mallet have been talking prior to the ink on Petrino’s contract being dry.

Mallet was Petrino’s first call on the plane bound for Fayetteville, and I don’t blame him.

When RR got the Michigan job, it was a done deal.

But, yeah, Mustain has to kicking himself for not sticking around and redshirting behind Casey Dick IF Sanchez beats him out for the starters’ job at SC.

by Coop on Jan 9, 2008 3:16 PM EST reply actions

So you’re all saying that Mustain can’t predict the future? Well the hell with him then, at SC we like our QBs to be magical like the unicorn that Pete Carroll rides between his office and the practice field.

by DC Trojan on Jan 9, 2008 3:26 PM EST reply actions

16) That’s the Pete Carroll approach though, bring in guys who are confident enough to go up against the internal competition. Its great for the program since USC will have 2 quarterbacks with big game experience to chose from next year.

At worst Mustain has one more year of eligibility than Sanchez. And Matt Cassell has made it in the NFL and he was only up to second string at USC the year Booty redshirted, so all is not lost for Mustain even if Sanchez wins out in the Spring.

Considering that USC’s biggest weakness this year was at WR, the most significant transfer from Arkansas might turn out to be Damian Williams.

by oc phil on Jan 9, 2008 3:35 PM EST reply actions

17 – Using your logic, that is like saying you wouldn’t be pissed if you were stepped over for a promotion at your current job, then you quit b/c you thought politics were involved and moved to another job with greater competition for upper level management positions, and then found out your old boss transferred to the plant in Oxford, and the guy who is taking his place holds your talents in extremely high regard.

Yep, I have gone cross-eyed with the above.

Yeah, most people in Mustain’s position, if they truly desired to stay at Arkansas, would be saying, “damn, what could have been…”

Now, if he only went to Arkansas to appease the locals, and his heart was not in it to begin with, and he likes SC, then no harm, no foul.

by Coop on Jan 9, 2008 3:36 PM EST reply actions

18 – Really, OC Phil? Are you certain your name isn’t Captain Obvious?

Did you deduce that brilliant analytical theory by looking at USC’s roster and seeing 4 QBs, from this season, (Booty, Mustain, Sanchez, and Corp) on the roster, all of whom were 4 or 5 star QBs?

Or did you look SC’s RB depth chart, with 6 TBs that were 4 or 5 stars coming out of high school?

In other words, no shit.

by Coop on Jan 9, 2008 3:39 PM EST reply actions

So if Mustain double backs to Ar-Kansas, will he yet again lose another year of eligibility, just for old time sake? I think it was in Houston Nutts contract, the “Jacks, jacks, no tradebacks” clause for Mustain, meaning, when he left, he nor his mama can come back

Hot rumor is Mallett to the Vols with both DeBord and Loeffler. My condolences to Vols fans if you end up with DeBord, I think he was temporarily brainwashed for the Capital One bowl and will revert to his predictable rock-throwing ways once again. How else to explain that completely different offense?

16: If Petrino was in contact with Mallett at that time I’m pretty sure that’s a violation of NCAA rules. That would be a new record for speed in committing violations after taking a job.

by Yinka Double Dare on Jan 9, 2008 3:52 PM EST reply actions

Since Geno and I share a common high school, I really hope he succeeds at the next level. However, because of his off field problems and lack of size, I really don’t see him getting drafted unless someone wants to convert him to a Roy Williams-type strong safety.

DaJuan Morgan is leaving NC State early for the pros. His mad dancing skills will be missed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qYIxo-ZnkQ

You can transfer from D1A to D2A without sitting a year, but not the other way around.

by Herb on Jan 9, 2008 3:59 PM EST reply actions

22 – It is not a violation if you don’t get caught, and how hard is it to contact the HS football coach at Texarkanna HS and have him contact Mallet, anyway?

If Mallet transfers to Tennessee, then Jon Crompton’s psychotic mother will be on Nancy Grace tomorrow night for shooting Phil Fulmer.

If you saw Armanti Edwards in person, you’d understand why he’s not cut out for 1-A ball option running. He’s actually about 5’11/165 lbs. with spindles for legs. Another 25 & he might be able to take a few hits – he missed several games aftre the Michigan game. Just look at Tee-bah & how he got banged up this past year. Multiply it by 3X for Edwards.
