CARROLL TO ATLANTA? OFFICIAL READING: MEH
The factual business is over at SN, but our official reaction to this point is: meh. Huizenga and Carroll in a hot tub, part deux.

Carroll to Atlanta gets a big ol' gay MEH from Charles Nelson Reilly.

I’d bet that the caller i.d. of at least one source of the rumor is a 310 number assigned to “R Neuheisel” – and he’d take that bet!

Pete would be a fool to come to this mess. This franchise is cursed. Stay in California and live the life, let some other desperate sap take this shitty job.

It only makes sense if the NCAA is coming down on USC for the Reggie Bush deal. So, if Carroll Goes, the NCAA PLOI arrives shortly after he leaves.

Wasn’t Charles Nelson Reilly an O-line coach at Georgia in the middle 70s? He sure looks the part there….

The rumor was shot down I believe on ESPN 790 AM here in Los Angeles.
I didn’t hear it though, as I was probably listening to Kevin and Bean.

Rumor has it that a ginormous grotto is being built in Buckhead. Applications for cherubs and eunuchs in the AJC.

I honestly think USC will escape the Bush debacle relatively unscathed.
Did Bush do all of the things he’s accused of – yes.
Did someone in the USC Athletic Department, even while willfully looking the other way, know about it – very likely yes.
But, defintive proof that the higher-ups directly knew what was going on and affirmatively chose to ignore it is going to be hard to come by for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that are probably working overtime to bury it.
Plus, they smartly offer to “cooperate” for appearances sake.

USC has access to a defense team like O.J.
Cooperate? Sure. Youbetcha.
Misconstrue, file delaying preemptive briefs? Youbetcha.
Utilize the media to advance the unfairness of hearsay and innuendo. Youbetcha.
Alabama needed to hire some of these slicks.

I don’t believe bad things can happen to USC, so this is all must BS.

As much as I like my Falcons I think that Pete Carroll would be an absolute idiot to leave Southern Cal and join the everexpanding circus that has been Falcons’ football for the last several years. If he wants to head back to the NFL then I’m sure that there are other ships out there that have not taken on as much water as the Falcons of late. Perhaps he could try the Ravens, Redskins, or whatever. I don’t understand why anyone in their right mind would come to Atlanta right now. And why the hell is Blank going after another college coach? wtf?!?

Why move cross-country when A.J. Smith and Norv Turner are bound to fuck it up in San Diego? Win another MNC and wait for the Spanos family to come with the keys to the Chargers after those two numbnuts fail.

Lets hope this doesn’t happen. Bad move for Carroll, USC and most importantly, the Falcons

I am far from a Pete Carroll fan, but he would have be considered legally braindead if he left USC for the Atlanta Falcons. He has it made at USC and no job will compare.

Wait a minute! Charles Nelson Reilly was gay? When did that happen?

(last year…and the year before. prove me wrong, america)

Other than the NCAA issue pointed out @ #3, Carroll would be out of his mind to make this move.

Up on the hilltop where the vultures perch,
That’s where I’m gonna build my church,
Ain’t gonna be no priest, ain’t gonna be no boss;
Just Charles Nelson Reilly nailed to a cross.
I don’t piss, I don’t shit, I’m gettin’ no relief,
People shake their heads in disbelief.
GO!
Just me on a hilltop with 15 girls,
In a Nelson Reilly orgy that’ll make your hair curl.
I don’t piss, I don’t shit, I’m gettin’ no relief,
People shake their heads in disbelief.
Yeah, Charles Nelson Reilly, he’s our man,
He can’t heal the sick with the touch of his hand,
He can’t walk on water, can’t make wine flow;
Just another greedy actor on the late late show!
I don’t piss, I don’t shit, I’m gettin’ no relief,
People shake their heads in disbelief.
GO!
Just me on a hilltop with 15 girls,
In a Nelson Reilly orgy that’ll make your hair curl.
I don’t piss, I don’t shit, I’m gettin’ no relief,
People shake their heads in disbelief

Bad move for both parties. Carroll has shown his cards as an NFL HC (while the successful college coach to the NFL with full control bit has historically been a disaster, anyway), and he would be nuts to leave a perfect fit for his style and talents to come to the bottomless pit that is the Falcons. But then I hadn’t thought about the NCAA sanctions angle since I guess I have a hard time believing anything will happen. Now if USC was UGA, they’d have already suspended themselves from a bowl game and self-imposed a reduction of 7 schollies while dropping trow, grabbing their ankles, and whimpering for mercy. Auburn OTOH would have announced an internal investigation, finding no wrongdoing as far as you know (and as far as the NCAA can prove).

If the Falcons actually do this, they need to be moved into the CFL.

or should that be dropping trou? It’s an ugly image either way…

BTC,
Actually, Auburn and Alabama are notoriously bad at covering things up. Tennessee on the other hand…
