TWO BUCKEYES SUSPENDED FOR TITLE GAME

Ohio State loses a starting corner for the national title game, meaning you can crank up the "ESS-EEE-SEE Speed" argument when Early Doucet finds a mismatch and slips loose for a 60-yarder in the game, thus beginning one of the least intelligent arguments in the history of the sport.

OSU fan: Our starter was suspended! There was a fifty day layoff!

LSU fan: WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! We're too fast down hyah woooOOOOOOO!!!!

(Repeat until stupefied.)

Starting cornerback Donald Washington and backup Eugene Clifford will miss the game for "violating team rules," a nod to likely academic problems and nothing of the Fulmer Cup variety. Redshirt freshman Chimdi Chekwa will start in his place, who LSU offensive coordinator is looking at as if he were a pork chop with legs.

Donald Washington: out for title game.

This isn’t going to suck for my beloved Buckeyes as bad as you may think, Washington is a great corner, but Chekwa has gotten a lot of time this year and is really good as a freshman backup.

That being said….the actual game is likely going to be my least favorite part of my trip to New Orleans in a few weeks…

  1. - have you seen Duecet and Byrd play? You need your VERY best corners on the field all game or you are in deep shit.

TOSU has an embarrassment of riches in the defensive backfield. I don’t think there will be much, if any, noticeable dropoff.

Yeah, I’ve watched a few of LSU’s games (UK, UT, UF, Arkansas) and I’m not denying Duecet and Byrd are good, I’m just saying that Chekwa is essentially just as good as Washington. A better way of saying it is that these suspensions hurt much more from a depth perspective than a starting talent perspective.

Yeah, 2 words for you : Safety help.

Then 3 more words for you: HEELLLLLLLOOOOOOO JACOB HESTER.

Good luck with that.

Obviously I’m pull for LSU to pound OSU… but I’m becoming concerned at the level of talk coming out of Baton Rouge already (See #s 4 and 8 above). Last year Florida fans managed (and I’m not at all sure how they managed this, given the fan bases Obnoxious Rating of 9.4 on a logarithmic scale from 1 to 10) to keep a low profile until ACTUALLY KICKING OSU’s ASS.

  1. - I think your confused. I am an AU fan. If i were a LSU fan, my screenname would be CORNDOGinATL.

That said, you are right that most CFB fans outside of Ohio (and certainly in SEC country) are expecting a carbon copy of last year’s BCS CG, and that is really not all that likely.

by TIGERinATL on Dec 20, 2007 3:09 PM EST reply actions

Matt “Motherfucking” Flynn. Why should anybody be concerned?

by MattTheRocketFlynn on Dec 20, 2007 3:14 PM EST reply actions

Anybody else think that OSU, even with all of its starters healthy and in perfect condition, STILL couldn’t beat LSU? Therefore they purposely suspend players and finish the season earlier so that they’ll have built-in excuses for why they didn’t win, and there will always be “what ifs,” casting doubt on the legitimacy of LSU’s win, and therefore the SEC?

I also have some ideas on JFK’s assasination, 9/11, Roswell, and Jamie Lynn Spears’ pregnancy if you’re interested.

by the croominator on Dec 20, 2007 3:20 PM EST reply actions

Wherever they’re coming from, I’d feel better if everyone let the OSU fans talk (which they won’t, of course) until after the game… and TiA, it might clear things up if you tried PlAINSMANinATL, or something more explicit along those lines… it’s not our fault Auburn picked the second most generic mascot on the planet.

Those poor Spears babies. Doomed from the start. Two have a druggie mom and a dad who thinks he’s the next eminem – but with no talent. And now this one is being born to a 16 year-old and is gonna have it’s dad in the slammer for committing the very act that led to its conception.

Aren’t the from Louisianna? I guess that makes this sort of on topic.

I never got the OMG SEC speed arguement. Ohio State and Michigan produce tons of corners and WRs for the NFL. You want to tell me guys like Ted Ginn ain’t fast?

by Edsall is God on Dec 20, 2007 3:34 PM EST reply actions

This development prompted me to pick LSU 42-3 on Bowl Mania.

by bitterhorn on Dec 20, 2007 3:36 PM EST reply actions

#19,

Pretty much all good teams have fast corners/WRs, regardless of their geographical situation. It’s just that teams in the south tend to have fast…well, everybody. Just ask Troy Smith and his tackles from last year.

by Chas on Dec 20, 2007 3:41 PM EST reply actions

I think the legal age of consent in LoUiSiAna is 12 or 13, something like that. Or if you were bangin’ the Mom too, then it’s OK. The law is a little fuzzy about he age thing.

by SunDawg on Dec 20, 2007 3:43 PM EST reply actions

The speed difference only really shows up on the defensive line and sometimes linebacker. There’s more speed on the depth chart overall as well, but how often does the speed of your 32nd best player really factor in?

by Biggus Rickus on Dec 20, 2007 3:44 PM EST reply actions

Maybe this doesn’t mean OSU’s victory hopes have been ground into fart dust, but wouldn’t Chewky have been the starter if he’s “just as good?”

The reason Chekwa didn’t start for us this year is because Washington is a Sophomore, so he gets the nod.

by Herbie's Raging Hardon on Dec 20, 2007 3:54 PM EST reply actions

Chekwa is still better than the vast majority of SEC corners, so I don’t see the problem.

by db on Dec 20, 2007 3:55 PM EST reply actions

9- I concur. Gators were fueled by the talk they didn’t belong and tOSU was wearing Cement Boots of Self-Adulation, which they’d been fitted for from the moment they beat an overrated Texas team in early September. … Roles are somewhat reversed this year, except LSU has learned plenty about its own mortality, even if Les thinks OT losses don’t count. I’m of the opinion LSU’s offense is not spectacular and won’t present nearly as many problems as Florida’s did last January, when the spread-and-dissect was more a factor than anything about speed.

I’ll be surprised if LSU doesn’t win, but equally surprised if it’s of the blowout variety. This isn’t LSU-Notre Dame.

I will not allow that to happen….We have to make them believe its hopeless…they are 0-8 vs avg SEC teams, and I think LSU is a tick above average, at least in about 3 or 4 games this year they looked pretty impressive, hadnt been impressed with tOSU’s offense….I think LSU has many more playmakers than the Fightin Redacti’ that beat tOSU w/ a side order of “Juice”…..

….I was thinkin the same thing…now if he had a bright pink feather boa wrapped around him, and his hand on his chin, we would know it would have been “Glamour Shots”….which is the death I will have to face in a bet I made if LSU loses to tOSU…so GEAUX TIGERS!!!!! I put my money where my mouth is….Note to Self: Dont ever make wagers when highly intoxicated with Yankee relatives from Ohio….There is more of chance of my opponent having to wear a pink TuTu at a charity car wash…6’7 300 man in a pink Tu Tu in January, washing cars is more funnier than a 6’0 245 man doing Glamour Shots where they pick the outfits…aint wearin the makeup…forget that…

I doubt this has any effect on Wayne’s outlook on the MNC game. Is he gonna show up and post before the game?

by Nick on Dec 20, 2007 4:28 PM EST reply actions

This will definitely hurt. Some in this thread are correct that there won’t be a huge dropoff from Washington to Chekwa.

But, what they are forgetting is that instead of having the very solid Chekwa as the nickle, we will now have the very sucky Jamario O’Neal.

Don’t be too surprised if true freshman James Scott, a tiny but tough CB out of Florida, steps up and grabs the nickle spot in the next few weeks.

by grizzly johnson on Dec 20, 2007 4:34 PM EST reply actions

SunDawg @ 23 – it’s a holdover from the Napoleonic Code called “L’Exception Milfique Pour Les Mamans et Filles Belles.” Long name, but the gist is that younger girls are okay as long as Mom gets a little sugar too – so look for Li’l Spears baby-Daddy to be giving a little somethin’ somethin’ to Ma Spears.

Isn’t it a little sad I’m only the fourth Buckeye fan in this thread and we’ve already hit half-a-hundred posts?

Washington was a good, not great corner. About the only reason he’s starting over Chekwa is the same reason Flynn starts over Perrilloux: he’s older. There will hardly be any drop-off. Certainly not enough for it to be used as an excuse if we lose the game.

I find it funny that the same sense of inevitability that followed the most idiotic Buckeye fans around last year now firmly resides in some corners of SEC country this year. I hope your team is as half as arrogant as some of your fans. And if the suspension is indeed just Clifford, we’ll be down a 3rd-string safety – oh noez!

This is alarming on many levels. The knife, the unwanted fondling, sure, terrible both, but it’s more personal than that for me. I came this close (holds up international symbol for ‘this close’) to naming my eldest child Tnikia Monta. I was thinking it would make her unique, all snowflake like.

by Nutt Job on Dec 20, 2007 7:22 PM EST reply actions

#50: You know what’s awesome about names such as Tnikia Monta? You’re not going to be mixed up with anyone else.

60 second scan of Google search results reveals she’s 29, had her driver’s license revoked last December in Jacksonville, and Chapel Hill News kindly gives her exact home address, as well as the fact that she’s on $500,000 bail for a worthless check, kidnapping, and first-degree sex offense. Against three college football players, to boot.

There is only one TNIKIA.
