NICK SABAN'S AGENT CONTACTED WEST VIRGINIA?
No fucking way: West By God Virginia is suggesting that WVSports.com (Rivals' WVU board) is reporting that Nick Saban's agent contacted West Virginia about the opening left by Rich Rodriguez's departure.
4 million dollars buys you dick these days.
EDIT/UPDATE/ETC. WBGV reported this first, no WVSports, who confirmed the story, most likely from the same source. As with any of these stories, be ever skeptical, but with Petrino's rain of back-daggers on Tuesday, perhaps Nick Saban and agent felt the need to flex their skills just to show the new kid in town who the real tiger-style master is.

AP – Sources close to the West Virginia University of asserted that Snuffalufagus’s Agent has contacted them in the hopes of Becoming their new coach. Snuffalufagus is widely known to be unhappy in Sesame Street, often conflicting with the direction of the program. Snuffalufagus does NOT (emphasis mine) have a buy-out clause in his contract.

2nd, This “story” is just plain ridiculous. It’s obviously just an attempt to make WVU look as if it’s actually trying to lure “big name” coaches from other schools, when we all know that is not the case. Even assistant coaches like Jimbo Fisher have no interest.
WVU could barely afford to pay half of Saban’s salary

- - I read your blog for a bit. RR’s WVa buyout is not reduced until August 31,2008.
Bottom line, he was giving a half-hearted implication that he would be willing to coach the squad in the Fiesta Bowl, even though he knew WVa would say no, given the circumstances.
“I am leaving your school as head coach to coach another program, but I will stay for the bowl in the ultimate lame duck game, while I am recruiting for Michigan and creating the ultimate conflict of interest with recruits.”
He was making an offer that he knew would not be accepted, thus said offer.

According to the WVU message board: "…These sources tell us that Saban is extremely unhappy in Tuscaloosa and has failed to recapture the situation he had in Baton Rouge with LSU. "
Of course Saban is unhappy in Tuscalooser….since all he sees in his future there is losing to Auburn one day and hearing about it the next 364 days of the year.

I think Saban is as astonished as any intelligent human should be at the level of zealotry and bat shit craziness that the bama nation displays. As is illustrated by post #41, they are always absolutely positive that the return of the golden years are just around the corner. There isn’t a doubt in their minds. They had no doubt with Franchioni. They had no doubt with Price. They had no doubt with Shula. And now, they have no doubt with Saban. That unchecked optimism may seem great at first, but it also equates to absurd expectations and creates a lot of pressure.
Like Pat Dye said a year ago, bama “won’t be a good job until they burry that hat.”

That’s funny. Even Gene “Second Coming of Bear” Stallings was on a short leash when he stumbled into a MNC winning year that bought him some breathing space.

90k people at a scrimmage! No, there aren’t any fruit cakes there. The thing about the Bama nation is they don’t realize times have changed, there will never be another Bear. Heck, there were rumblings when he lost like 5-6 bowl games, I’d have to look it up to be sure of the number. If he was alive today and coaching, he couldn’t duplicate what he did back then. He was a great coach, and his ability to adjust offensively and defensively was his greatest ability. But the game is different today.

This is bs, Jimmy Sexton is the agent for a ton of coaches, including Terry Bowden. They can say “Saban’s agent called WVU”, and technically be correct. No chance of him leaving for WVU, or anywhere else for that matter. Like or not, you are going to have to deal with Sweet Nicky in Tuscaloosa for a good while. Nice try, though.

The Rebels improved their on-field record against Alabama to just 8-41-2. Ole Miss received a forfeit win over Alabama in 1993. But four of Mississippi’s on-field wins over Alabama have come with a Manning at quarterback and the family, including Peyton Manning while at Tennessee, is 7-3 as starters against
the Crimson Tide….but if Eli decided to come back, I’d take my chances against him again….
