SILENT HOGS
Arkansas’ fired Houston Nutt, and then…leapt into oblivion. While Michigan has become the bumptious drama of choice this year, do not turn a deaf ear to Arkansas: the sound you hear is nothing happening, or at least nothing outside of the hiring of a search firm to find coaches now that Tommy Tuberville, Jim Grobe, and Butch Davis have all expressed equal parts disinterest and disdain for the job.
Why wouldn’t you take the job? They ran a coach out of town by prying into his cell phone records (to be fair, public record,) making suggestions that he was having an affair (who cares if he was? It’s not your genitals we’re talking about here), and getting near-riotous over a team that won 19 games in the past two years and had a championship appearance. That screams job security to us.
The replacement question–and the rare quantity of foresight–could have been considered in advance here, but likely wasn’t, or at least not considered fully enough. Georgia Tech dodged flak with a solid hire, as did Ole Miss, who hired Houston Nutt. Arkansas, however, may have started a gas fight before lighting up, especially now with Jim Grobe sitting tight at Wake for the moment. (There’s a meth lab joke in here, but we’re just too impatient to find it.)

See lack of planning, or:Gas fight!
If their last, worst case doesn’t come through…who is next? No, in all seriousness, we’re asking you. It’s quiet over there right now. Ozark quiet.

This has nothing at all to do with the Razor Backs, but why haven’t I heard any rumors about about Michigan talking to the coach of Appalachian State? That guy just brought his team to their third straight national title. He proved he is a better coach than Carr already earlier this year.
There is also a precedent here. Ever since tOSU brought in a guy from (The division formerly known as who gives a fuck they have a playoff), they have done exceedingly well at beating Michigan.
Oh, and since he is from a lower division, they could easily low ball him without the threat of being immediately turned down. This shit is win/win.

While I presume you were being facetious, just in case you weren’t Appalachian State’s coach is 67 years old thereby making him too old. Now if Joe Pa were to retire, Coach Moore might be a candidate at PSU.

If HOT, HOT, HOT doesn’t block that field goal at the end, that coach would be remembered for one of the worst coaching decisions in college football history, when he didn’t let that clock run down and kick the winning FG with little or no time left.

Do you really think that Arkansas “fired” Nutt? Wasn’t it the other way around- didn’t they offer a substantial raise for him to stay and he politely told them to get bent as he flew out the door to a school with, by all indications, a much tougher road to success?
I think that it’d look a lot worse for the school if it was really Nutt doing the quitting rather than the school doing the firing, because there really isn’t a good way to twist those events into anything but a very, very negative reflection on the school. Nice parting shot, Nutt~

If Arkansas doesn’t get Boom MF’r! as their coach I have no clue who will end up there. How about the PR nightmare Micky Andrews from FSU? He likes to spit, so that should get him in the door.

“we have made no formal offer to anyone” AD Jeff Long. most of these coaches are using Arkansas loud mouthed boosters and drunken alum to get extentsions and raises. Nutt got run out for screwing up the in state talent, letting middle aged crazy women send harrassing emails.and benching Mustain because he is too thin skinned to hear what an immature 17 year old said about him in a lame a** book. No coach is bigger than the program, Nutt got caught up in his own ego. Have fun in Ole Miss with Archie second guessing you, i guess it is better than an entire state.

Ulysses S. McGill says:
1. Nutt was pretty much fired two weeks before LSU. Everything else was a smokescreen.
2. Before hiring Neinas, the search was run by the AD and the Chancellor, that is why there was a lack of information.
3. Davis, Tubberville, Bowden, and Grobe were all approached. Davis said no, we don’t know if Tubbs said no or was just to expensive, Bowden “accepted” but was turned down by the Board, and Grobe changed his mind. Thus we are hiring Neinas.
4. The sky is not falling yet in Arkansas, but the cables are fraying.
5. Nutt had to go. I know it isn’t popular outside of WallyWorld, but that is just the way it is. He had become a distraction through a mixture of personality, on the field coaching, and the Springdale/Gus/transfer mixture of gasoline soaked in lighter fluid, and taped to a blow torch.

Who has been leading the coaching search at Arkansas? The Reverend Jim Ignatowski?
When you fire your coach, especially midway through the season, you better make sure your short list is good to go. Who the hell did not know that Tubby had a $6 million buyout? I means besides the Reverend Jim Ignatowski?
Frank Broyles had this down to a science. Hell, the man once talked an ex-coordinator off a plane so that Broyles could name him the next head coach.
Newly hired AD, the Reverend Jim Ignatowski, needs to lay off the glue if he wants to last 3 years.
