I had heard way before it actually went down was we had Saban locked down and to leave it alone and that it was in good hands…..This was 2 weeks before he stated” I am not going to coach Alabama,etc” statement since there was smoke coming from Miami’s media about it, not T-town…In case you havent noticed, Saban aint a PR kinda guy and says stuff right off the cuff with little regard to blowback…The curious thing about the Saban search is that it seemed to get raises for Jimmy Sexton,his agent, and all of Jimmys clients,who are coaches(except for Tubby in that search)….Everytime one of his clients was leaked as a candidate, instant raises were the order of the day, so Sexton benefitted on both sides….The RR fiasco was a joke…what Coach lets his wife sit in on the interview with another schools AD? When is the last time you interviewed for a job, and your wife and girlfriend had to be there? WTF is that all about? Thats when I knew Rich Rodriquez wasnt gonna be our coach even when he agreed in principle…then got a raise and facilities….and said “I was just kiddin around”…..Hell Urban Meyer would be coaching at ND had they not low balled him, and I am sure Les Miles would be at Michigan had they offered decent money, except Michigan didnt love Les like Les loved Michigan,and I am sure he is gonna try to destroy Ohio State to prove a point to Michigan—-and probaly tell them—”Michigan, in case your wondering, THAT is how you will eventually, in the next 10 yrs or so, beat tOSU….Have A Nice Day!”

#44 Not to pile on, but Cowherd and Rome spent, literallly, 2/3 of their show for at least a couple of days raving on and on about how irrelevant Bama is and how nobody good wants to go there.

It then quickly turned to an assault on Saban for accepting the job.

I appreicate Herbstreit admitting, later, that Saban really didn’t have any choice but to lie and say he was not going to be coaching at Bama, b/c it could have negatively affected his current job.

If folks had been all up in Petrino’s butt before his season was over he would have done the same thing. Of course he wasn’t criticized one bit even though he let down a bunch of college kids as opposed to a bunch of milllionaires.

why is Mike Price always talking about that damn lake house? Is lake couer d�Alene really nice or something?

It’s very nice. Great fishing. Awesome tribal casino nearby. And one of the top golf courses in the United States. Every golfer should play that course once, and Bandon Dunes on the Oregon coast. Simply amazing.

I don’t remember too much “venom” coming until it was announced that Saban really was taking the job.
Prior to that I recall it being more of a “Why can’t they find a coach?/Who will it be?” purgatory-esque feeling, not all that different from how I imagine Wolverines feel now. Some people also felt that Shula was given a bum rap, and if you believe that, your name ends in Shula. It didn’t help that Don went on national radio shows to say his son wasn’t given a fair chance. Also, there was a little shame after RR took the job and promptly returned it, but all in all, before Saban took the job, it wasn’t that bad.

Also, why is Mike Price always talking about that damn lake house? Is lake couer d’Alene really nice or something? I swear when he was at Bama, it was all he could talk about. Come to think of it, Saban likes talking about his lake house too…

Did Mike Price really win $20 million for defamation?

I remember that Franchione’s PR minion was involved in getting the fan fiction piece out. Did anything ever happen to him as a result?

In regards to the media bias against Bama, I will say that the media did seem to be as far up Les Miles’ butt about coaching rumors as they were with Saban.

The only difference is that they were up Saban’s butt about it for a lot longer. Meanwhile, they completely ignored the fact that Petrino left recruits, who I’m sure he told would bet here for four years.

So it’s hard to not feel a little bit singled out.
