MMM, WHO DOESN’T LOVE PRESS CONFERENCES?
The fact we have to wait for a selection show doesn’t seem half as unusual this year as a college football fan. As strange as it’s been, Barry Alvarez could come on the screen in a Cat-in-the-Hat raver cap, technicolor-striped pants, and twirling two glow sticks while screaming “SOMEONE GAVE ME BAAAAAAD DRUGS!!!” and it would feel apropos. It’s been bad trippy time for football fans everywhere this entire season–why change now? Just put Thom Brennaman in the fat pants, dose him on some cut-rate MDMA, turn on the camera, and let the fun begin. WHO LOVES YOU? AND WHO DO YOU LOVE THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP

It feels so good when you touch my head…where’s my gum?
So while we all wait for the BCS selection show, please note that EDSBS Live, America’s Most Outstandingly Mediocre College Football Show, has been moved for one week only to Monday night on account of Peter Bean, our co-host, being exceedingly occupied this week for reasons unknown. (He’s secretly negotiating for the job of defensive coordinator of the Texas Longhorns. Let it be known that we think he’d be just as good as their current management.) It will be broadcast live tomorrow night when we’ve got BCS selections to discuss and a bit more time on our hands as a duo.
Regular programming continues apace tomorrow. For the record, we think placing the entire undefeated 2004 Auburn squad and the 12-0 1994 Penn State Nittany Lions would make as much sense as any other arrangement you choose, since the BCS is made to hand pick a pair of lions from the pride for their title game, not pull a pair a pair of random feral cats from a sack.

Can’t you READ? I said “non-conference games against teams from BCS conferences” – that does NOT mean Notre Dame which is an “in-de-pen-dent.”
And I have just shown you that the Big Ten has a WINNING record in those games while the SEC does NOT.
And “misremembering” the score doesnt change the dominance of the game, it just makes you look like a fucking idiot.
I’m done arguing with someone who argues in the face of a 1-2 record in bowl wins because one win was “bigger” than another.

After looking through the Big 10 out of conf sceds that is exactly what it is.
The big ten BCS wins
Four wins over Notre Dame (Penn St, Mich St, Purdue, Mich)*, two wins over Syracuse (Iowa, Illinois), one win over 4-9 Washington (Oh St), one 4 point win over 6-7 Pitt (Mich St) and one win over 5-7 Washington State
*=A BCS team but not in a conf. I don’t know how you want to count that but whatever, they dont matter

Really, not remembering the exact score of a game a year ago make me a “fucking idiot”?
Classy
And yes, I know ND is an independent. They are however a BCS team, it is a gray area.
“And since when do some games count more than others? A loss is a loss, something SEC fans (and coaches) don’t seem to grasp. It doesn’t matter if you lose in overtime, it doesn’t matter if you have a couple players hurt. You lost. If the second best team in the SEC loses to the third best team in the Big Ten (Wisconsin vs Arkansas), it’s still a loss.”
Well..sure it is still a loss. But the counting the #2 team from one conference beating the #4 from another the same as a #2 vs. #2 match does not tell you much about the comparitive strengths of conferences, which is what I am getting at.
And if you really think a 1-2 record from last year alone or a 5-4 vs. 7-7 is that statistically significant you are nuts

Seriously..
Some big 10 fan show me one important out of conference win you had this year and I’ll shut up. Its that simple. In 2007 the Big Ten played NO ONE and actually often lost to the no ones (Duke and two I-AAs).
Fact:
The Big Ten showed no evidence of an ability to beat good out of conference teams this year.
Prove that wrong

How does your response there disprove my point. Yes Pitt beat WV. They also lost seven times. What is your point in posting that?
I’ll admit Pitt is an “ok” team. They are still a team worse than average despite pulling out a huge win in a rivalry game over a good team

Big Ten Out of Conference
Well the 2 years before this OSU played Texas
Next 2 years they play USC
2 years after that they play Miami
the 2 years after that they play Virginia Tech
Washington this year was left over from a home and home schedule that hadn’t been completed. (Scheduled back when Wash was good)
So Ohio State typically schedules a strong opponent.
Show me the strong OOC schedule for Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Arkansas, or any number of other teams.
Quit trying to perpetuate a myth that somehow everyone is scheduling strong OOC scheds except a few teams.

I’m an SEC fan, but who have we beaten out of conference this season other than LSU beating VT? I can’t think of any big wins. Granted, our conference is probably tougher than the Big 10, but your “who has the Big 10 beaten?” argument doesn’t really hold water.

Georgia played Ga Tech and Okla State (plus a Troy team that has always played very well against big teams)
Auburn played South Florida and Kansas St
Arkansas played Troy
Alabama playe FSU
South Carolina played Clemson
Tennessee played Cal (and a good Southen Miss)
LSU played Virginia Tech
Mississippi State played West Virginia
Florida played FSU
Kentucky played Louisville (who is better than Pitt, who you are touting MSU beating as a vindication of your conf)
