MMM, WHO DOESN’T LOVE PRESS CONFERENCES?
The fact we have to wait for a selection show doesn’t seem half as unusual this year as a college football fan. As strange as it’s been, Barry Alvarez could come on the screen in a Cat-in-the-Hat raver cap, technicolor-striped pants, and twirling two glow sticks while screaming “SOMEONE GAVE ME BAAAAAAD DRUGS!!!” and it would feel apropos. It’s been bad trippy time for football fans everywhere this entire season–why change now? Just put Thom Brennaman in the fat pants, dose him on some cut-rate MDMA, turn on the camera, and let the fun begin. WHO LOVES YOU? AND WHO DO YOU LOVE THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP

It feels so good when you touch my head…where’s my gum?
So while we all wait for the BCS selection show, please note that EDSBS Live, America’s Most Outstandingly Mediocre College Football Show, has been moved for one week only to Monday night on account of Peter Bean, our co-host, being exceedingly occupied this week for reasons unknown. (He’s secretly negotiating for the job of defensive coordinator of the Texas Longhorns. Let it be known that we think he’d be just as good as their current management.) It will be broadcast live tomorrow night when we’ve got BCS selections to discuss and a bit more time on our hands as a duo.
Regular programming continues apace tomorrow. For the record, we think placing the entire undefeated 2004 Auburn squad and the 12-0 1994 Penn State Nittany Lions would make as much sense as any other arrangement you choose, since the BCS is made to hand pick a pair of lions from the pride for their title game, not pull a pair a pair of random feral cats from a sack.

(PS: In a way, it’s good that tOSU isn’t going against Southern Cal in the Rose Bowl, because the two already have an opening regular season matchup next year in LA. Unfortunately for the Rose Bowl, Illinois is going to take their place. Snooore.)

Sean Glennon’s Jersey is an admitted Georgia homer……but Georgia shouldn’t play for the MNC. It wasn’t right when Chokelahoma did it and it wasn’t right when Nebraska did it. I do, however, think the dawgs would beat Ohio State by two touchdowns.

I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that Illinois, a generally mediocre team who, while they (deservedly) beat tOSU, still will get a BCS bowl bid over Missouri, who BEAT THEM.
But the dandruffs at the Rose Bowl still want to preserve the “tradition” that the Big Televen is a competent football conference and want to see a hometown team kick the stuffing out of mediocre opposition instead of an actual good game.
But it could also be that it’ll be a cold day in hell before Missouri actually has something go their way.

I love how overconfident the SEC fans are. Sounds like us last year, and look how that turned out. Be careful what you ask for. We’ll show up this year, and Miles is used to losing to tOSU 0-3-1 as a player, 0-1 as a coach. And here is another fun fact, LSU has never beaten tOSU. How relevant is that stat? Its not, just as last years game isn’t relevant to this years game. Keep up the myths though, it makes your fall from the limb you step out on that much funnier.

Once you get past LSU, the SEC just isn’t that good. Once you get past tOSU and Illinois, the Big Ten isn’t all that good. Once you get past OU, KU, and MIzzou, the Big 12 isn’t all that good. (By the way, since only 2 teams per conference are allowed in BCS bowls, the two top teams left are OU and KU, and THAT’S why Mizzou is on the outside looking in, probably headed back to the Alamo Bowl.)
Oh, and UGA, when you beat Tennessee, call me. Quit whining, and get ready for the Hawai’i Warriors to kick your asses all over the Sugar Bowl.

And stapler, 22 of that “half a hundred” came after the end of regulation. You know, when one of the greatest college RBs of all time was given the ball at LSU’s 25 yard line for 3 possessions.
Once again, I agree with you that UGA deserves a shot, but it isn’t like LSU obviously shouldn’t be there. And your “they lost twice while ranked #1″ argument makes no sense considering the fact that your team also lost twice and wasn’t even #1 when those losses happened.

Currently, my trusty Post-It pad is looking something like this:
MNC–tOSU v LSU
Rose–USC v Pool
Fiesta–OU v Pool
Sugar–Pool v Pool
Orange Bowl–VT v Pool
Pool Teams:
–The two automatics at the moment are Hawaii (who I see going to the Orange Bowl) and WFVU (a Fiesta Bowl bid)
–Then, four teams enter, one team leaves going to the Cotton Bowl: Mizzou, kansas, UGA and Illinois. I see UGA and Mizzou going to the Sugar Bowl and Illinois going to the Rose.
Moral of the story? The Rose Bowl are a bunch of dunderheads who hate change.

They lost twice in triple OT to teams just as good and won the conference.

No UGA fan would be complaining at all if they were playing anyone but the perceived weakest team in the BCS yet AGAIN….FSU, WVU, and now this. WVU is a case in point- UGA didn’t even bother getting off the bus for the entire first half and lost by three points to a supposedly equal component. Basically all these games are meaningless except the MNC- you might as well give the country the match-ups it wants. Every knowledgable football fan has a good idea of what will happen in the Sugar Bowl- Richt and co will run a clock-eating run game and Martinez will likley only have to send the 4 upfront after Brennan leaving the rest to sit the mid and short routes. So instead of being able to look forward to an exciting game, this fan has to pray for a boring one. Great end to the season.

El Hombre – you realize that the BCS bowls, by rule, *cannot* take both Missouri and Kansas because it would be three teams from the same conference, correct? And thus there isn’t anyone else the Rose Bowl could take (aside from possibly Clemson, if they end up in the top 14, and … well, if you think taking Clemson over Illinois makes sense, you’re nuts). The Sugar Bowl could veto if the Rose wants Georgia anyway, so their other options are the Big XII teams, and whichever bowl chooses one is going to end up pissing someone off (either leaving out a one-loss Kansas or a Missouri team that would have beaten two BCS participants).

Last year you were overconfident for no reason. SEC fans are confident because of very good reasons. Reasons like our champ beating the ACC champ 48-7 and our 06 champ beating the 06 Big 10 champ 48-7 as well.
Also, there are things like..
Georgia easily handling decent ACC and big 12 teams like Ga Tech and Ok St 35-14 or something in that range.
Florida owning FSU
-our midlevel teams, like KY, beating projected Big East champs
We actually have damn good reasons for know we’re better

32,
I didnt realize that certain bowl games counted more than others when determining one team’s superiority over the other. So non-title BCS games amount to 1/2 a win? Bowl games played in December count for 1/4 a win? Please let me in on the proper formula for measuring the SEC vs the Big Ten in Bowl games last year, I was unaware that it had to be parsed more than the SEC being 1-2 vs the Big ten. Jackass.

What 41-point game are you talking about? Ohio State lost to Florida by 27, not 41. Get your facts right. And Penn State won its bowl game by 10 points last year; hardly a “narrow” victory.

Oklahoma v Kansas – 2 Big 12 teams in the Fiesta Bowl would be a travesty and an automatic W for the Sooners.
West Virginia v Virginia Tech would be a nice memory lane for 2 hated rivals from their Big East days. (Anyone else remember Shayne Graham’s game winning fg vs West VA to send VT to the title game in 1999?)
Hoping the Zooker will get to take on Pete Carroll’s crew in the Rose Bowl. Although seeing him beat Florida would have been nice too.

Who’s the moron?
You managed to get almost every one of your facts wrong.
Who gives a shit if Kentucky beat the “projected” big east champ. Louisville sucked this year. Kentucky didn’t play a single decent team out of conference, much like most of the rest of the SEC.
Ohio State lost 41-14, not 48-7
And since when do some games count more than others? A loss is a loss, something SEC fans (and coaches) don’t seem to grasp. It doesn’t matter if you lose in overtime, it doesn’t matter if you have a couple players hurt. You lost. If the second best team in the SEC loses to the third best team in the Big Ten (Wisconsin vs Arkansas), it’s still a loss.
