Orson Swindle and Stranko Montana are two men pushing thirty who should know better than to run a college football blog, but evidently don't. Both graduated from the University of Florida, and both agree that college football is far too important to be left to the professionals.

Funny. Tailgated next to an extremely influential Irish booster at the UGA - Auburn game. Guy is on the phone from 10am - 2pm talking to Domer Alums. We finally get him to start drinking, and he tells us how the LA Domer Alums have cobbled together $30M to buy CCW out of his contract. Apparently, they hate him as much as Pete.

Actually Tuberville did the same to Ole Miss when he left for Auburn. He got on the radio, said “I’m not looking at leaving for any other schools,” and after blowing the Egg Bowl game, left town for Auburn. All the while, the Auburn AD of the time never asked Ole Miss for permission. Why is no one in the all-knowing national media bringing this to light during these discussions?

#23 mp- Yep that is on the level. That’s the way PC is. I personally am amazed that any top player would ever go anywhere else if given the chance to play for him (execpt for those with family history or church ties pushing them to another university).
Considering how the community in the ‘hood supports sports in general and USC in particular, Pete is probably safer than any other white man could be in some of those areas. If somebody hurt Pete, Snoop Dog himself might show up to pop a cap in that somebody’s ass. But he probably wouldn’t be able to get there soon enough to be the first.
I think Pete is sincere with his desire to help people and he realizes that a small overture on his part can really touch a person’s life and make a difference.
As far as the “fucking asshole” comment, I think Weis is the easy assumption, since so many people think of Weis that way. I think people are reading too much into the tirade against Bellotti; the “fuck you’s” on youtube were in the heat of battle and less indicative of a general problem with MB. Another possibilty would be Dennis Erickson because well… he’s Dennis Erickson.
#21 Chickensupernova: Why would he want to take a job that would be a step down in the first place? And that’s not a cheap shot, I think there are only a couple of college jobs that rival USC’s. He’s in the #2 media market with no NFL competition, rich and famous alums who love him, the USC song girls around for decoration, and plenty of good bodysurfing a few miles from campus. There isn’t another job that could lure him away from all that.

@ 21 superchickenova. I totally agree. College coaching generally, and college coaching in California specifically, is tailor-made for Pete Carroll whether he tells himself differently or not. Fits his “personality” perfectly. He should seek to be the JoPa of USC if he’s smart.

After reading that article on Pete, I’ve got to say he’s the freaking craziest coach I’ve ever heard of but my respect for him grew a ton after that article.
I mean, while in law school, I volunteered at a South Central LA high school as a mentor. Bad as its rep is, that place is somehow even more depressing and scary than its rep. For Pete to drive around late at night in that place as a white dude and talk to random down on their luck guys is pretty much the most bats*** insane thing I could imagine. I give him major props for it. I also hope he doesn’t get shot in some accident.

Obvious choice: Bellotti
Dark horse: Harbaugh
The Machiavellian option: Steve Sarkisian

Hmmm. 6-6. No bowl. Formerly top-25. Tail spin. Suddenly awful defense.
South Carolina fans everywhere respond with: welcome to our world. Except the part where you win your last game of the season in dramatic fashion, reclaiming some final atom of dignity from the season’s otherwise head-scratching end.

Freaky “A” Dept:
# 27 - Eirishis: In addition to Pete Carroll, almost everyone, and by now many Domies also consider Charlie Weis an effing “a”.
But, ND has been so awful this season and meaningless, that Pete C was more likely referring to Belotti.

#30 - valid point - he does dislike Bellotti as much as Weis.

Could be Belotti; Pete’s comments to Midnight Mike weren’t on the record, unless YouTube is now considered the record.

Orson, you left out a crucial bit in the line about UL and Syracuse. It should read: “They lost to Syracuse. Syracuse. At HOME.”
As a Louisville fan, I’m glad they came back and beat Rutgers on senior night. But I hate that it was 21-3 in the first quarter, which happened 2 other times this season… Kragthorpe is a late adopter of the Dave Wannstedt face: Bad things are happening, and I don’t know how to stop them.

#12 - I just saw that 30 Rock episode the other day. Nice.
I like the writer of the Carroll piece, J.R. Moehringer. Read his book “The Tender Bar” (think it’s the same guy). Pretty good guy book not involving robots or explosions.

So, the coach that Carroll referred to a “fucking asshole” off the record - that’s gotta be Weis, right?
(Not gonna lie - enjoyed the insight into Carroll’s unique brand of controlled insanity, but I think that ND fans should actually enjoy the fact that he hates our coach so much.)

#9 - We were just discussing this very topic yesterday. My friend decided that the term of choice was enhanced, which I can go with. Thing is, with all the hormones in meat and everything, girl’s boobs are getting bigger every generation, so everyone ought to be enjoying large breasts. Babies, girls, boys, men, women, everyone. Everyone loves a nice breast.
