Spooky:
Don't worry, I could dig up plenty of douch-Florida equivalents. But they're *our* douches.
Or something like that.

Ugas, it's just optimism taken to the extreme. You guys have a really legit shot next year and we don't. Hell, if Pitt beats WVU, you might win it this year. If you came to BDS again this year, it'd be the same kind people you probably encountered in 02(I was there this year and everyone was very friendly on both sides) Don't pay attention to 'internet fans' from any side because everyone is extreme and douchey on the web...i think it's a requirement or something. The fans at the stadium i've heard no complaints on(sans drunks). We pride ourselves on being friendly.

Ok, I don't know if anyone is still even reading comments on this thread anymore but....

Dude who is a Florida fan who says some random bama fan is a douche: maybe, but I personally have no quarrel with UF except when we play them. Hell, I even like Meyer. I think he shows a lot of (dreaded word) class and he and his players handled the Prothro situation as good as i've ever seen when he went down. Spurrier used to piss me off, mostly based on recruiting ploys he used to use, but like most of the SEC fans, he's grown on me.

The Shula-Saban thing. The Shula hire was about as good as we could get at that point with a shit storm surrounding us. The whole thing wore thin on everyone though and the situation was bad enough that we HAD to overpay(the salary of 3.5 isnt that much worse than Stoops by the way. He makes something like 3 and Tubbs is probably going to move up to at least 2.3 or so, maybe more) for someone that would excite the fanbase and recruits. It was a desperation move, but honestly, we generate more revenue than most teams(not to say we are better, just generate more revenue)...if you got it, spend it. It was a smart business move in the sense that the excitement it produced moved merchandise at an all time high. I guarantee we made more money off the Saban hire than we spent. It was kinda necessary to pull a HUGE name and we did. Greeting him at the airport and the A-day game was just a show of excitement and relief at what we'd thought would be the end of inconsistency

As far as the feel of superiority....I promise I'm about as far from that as possible. Hell, i think we're cursed. I do think we will be a great team again though in the way that the true powers don't disappear. Notre Dame will never be a bad team year in and out. Michigan, USC, OSU, OU, etc will never be down for long.

The Alabama-Auburn thing....I can't really explain it because there isnt another state that has 2 teams as powerful. But it doesnt matter what one side says to the other. It's a rivalry....the most intense one in sports. Of course we are going to say "you can't pull off the things we can and we'll always be Alabama, blah blah blah" and you'll say what you say, but it's two great teams battling for one state. We owned it for a while, the NCAA helped you take it over for a while(sorry, had to do it) and soon we'll battle again. See you at BDS.

Why do I dislike Bama? Well, to be honest, I never really did dislike Bama until this year. I went to the GA-AL game in '02, and it was fabulous. Hot as hell, but awesome.

Only this year have I come to wish Bama ill. Two reasons: Saban and the corresponding (and ill-deserved) hype. Having one BamaFan talk shit to me (weeks after Georgia's win and with my conscious avoiding of the subject) that Bama will win a national championship before Georgia. "Guaranteed."

Now that, my friends, is completely absurd (although it could happen).

#59,
Agreed, I am an OSU alum, and I think TAFKA more has a bone with Saban, whether it be if he is at LSU, Bama, or Eastern Carolina State. Saban fucked up the OSU season when they were #1, and he believes Saban isn't that great of a coach. Thats just what I've observed from my 2+ years on here.

Perhaps "douche" is a little off when describing bama fans. I think "white trash" sums it up better. Everyone has seen the video of the throng of winners* that met Sabear at the airport as well as the tattooed guy.

* in the white trashiest sense only

Random Dude who in one breath told me Meyer was in way over his head in the SEC, but that Shula would be great because what recruits wouldn't want to play for a Shula? = DOUCHE.
Random Dude who told me Meyer was a big asshole, but then pulls for a team that hired Saban = DOUCHE.
Random Dude that tries to convince Florida fans Saban is the GREATEST EVAR after we watched Spurrier treat him like a rented mule? DOUCHE.
Bear Bryant, Dou....HA. Just kidding.

Spooky,

I am a UGA grad (now out of the closet) and I don't remember Coach Richt being subjected to this much vitriol when he took over. I admired seeing 90,000+ for a practice game. I think a lot of it strted with his style of coaching and being hailed as a savior before he really did anything. That said, I am glad we are in the east and don't play you every year.
peace

As a graduate of tOSU (in the same way that Orson is a GIT grad) I don't have a dog in the Auburn/Alabama fight and I'd give the edge in doucheness to the Auburn fans myself.

TAFKATOSUB has stated before that he spent some time in Alabama and had bad experiences down there. His fixation with Saban goes back to the year that Saban's Michigan State team upset the otherwise unbeaten Buckeyes and cost them the MNC. So we have a convergence of personal issues at work with maybe a little OCD or Arspargers syndrome thrown in.

Now is time for him to take the next step with his screen name and drop tOSU out of it totally. I know the other Buckeye fans around here would REALLY appreciate it if he conducted his crusade without dragging the university into it daily.
