THE WORST THING IN THE WORLD
A word of condolences scarcely covers what happened to former Alabama running back Siran Stacy last night on US 84 in Dothan, Alabama.
DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) A collision involving a car driven by former Alabama football star Siran Stacy killed six people, including Stacy's wife and four of his children, state troopers said Tuesday.
The former Alabama running back is still in the hospital in stable condition. A fifth child, his three-year-old daughter, was airlifted to the hospital in Birmingham and is in serious condition. The coroner on the scene had this to say regarding the accident:
"It was horrendous .... I've never had anything like that in my life and I've been doing this for 20 years," Byrd said. "The truck that hit the car was on the passenger side and the impact was substantial. Everybody in there all died instantly. The kids in the back had seat belts on, the parents did not."
This isn't the kind of thing we'd want to live through. This isn't tragedy. This is the Book of Job. It's beyond comprehension even on a scale of tragedy. We offer our thoughts and prayers to him anyway in a situation we cannot honestly imagine being worse.

The thoughts and prayers of the Auburn family is with Siran and everyone involved in this tragedy. I hope we have a moment of silence or something at the game on Saturday to at least let him know that he’s not alone in this.

There aren’t words enough for that. I’ve had to write stories, going along with video where entire families are killed, and it’s just awful.
The best to you, Mr. Stacy.

I couldn’t agree more with you Orson. That’s beyond terrible and I simply cannot comprehend how awful that situation actually is. From the outside looking in it is unbearable.

Several of us have contacted Jay Jacobs (Auburn AD) and asked that we have a moment of observation for this tragedy of the Stacy family and also as to whether we may be able to collect donations for giving to the family.
God bless them, and God bless you all.

Absolutely horrible. My thoughts and prayers go out to Stacy and his daughter, and to the extended family and friends. I can’t imagine anything worse.

The collective state of Alabama has heard this story and declared the Iron Bowl “trivial” by comparison. As a father of 3, this is one of those things you hope doesn’t pop in your head when you wake up in the middle of the night, because you may not go back to sleep. It’s hard to imagine much worse. Prayers to the entire extended family.

I am impressed by the response of the Auburn fan base. I hope they are able to perform a symbolic act — a moment of silence, collecting donations, whatever it may be — that shows solidarity with the Stacy family and, by extension, respect for their opponents.

My heart goes out to Siran Stacy. To have your entire family taken from you in such a horrific manner while you’re left here must be a fate worse than death. I hope he can recover from his injuries as quickly as possible. And may his family rest in peace.

I hope Siran Stacy pulls thru and finds the will to live somehow someway…I hope the doctors hands are guided by God and are able to help him and his little girl somehow make it through…..
I know Siran Stacy is a strong man, I have friends that have second thought their career choices as walk-ons on Alabamas practice squad when Siran first got there and really ran thru them since there was really no way to take him one on one @ full speed, and I hope that will to succeed on every down and every thing he did will be the force that pulls him through…the hardest part will be not surviving, but living with the aftermath. Trust me, I would NOT want to be the one to break the news about what happened……

For anyone that wants to read on what a class act Siran is, a good link is below. Don’t know all the html stuff, so you’ll have to copy and paste.

What an awful tragedy. I hope Siran and his daughter are soon fully recovered. Best wishes to all concerned from here in Buckeye country.

I hope they pull through this and we’re trying to get a collection and a moment of silence up at the game.

Hate to hear this. Siran was a heck of a ball player and it sounds like an even better father.
Prayers to him

I heard it was a drunk driver, if this is true then it is yet again another tragedy that is too easily avoidable. 6 lives snuffed out with 2 more on the frindge because someone couldn’t make the harder right over the easier wrong decision. This happens more than it ever should around the country and this is yet another painful, tragic example to all those who choose or have chosen to drink and drive. Harsher penalties should exist for criminals that drink and drive.

Thank you Orson for your sincere words. EDSBS is the first site I visit every day. The razor sharp humor, witty insight and smackiest of of all smack talk draws me to you url time and time again.
However, publishing this story and recognizing what’s truly important despite fan base alliance and the associated trivial noise sets you guys apart from the other e-dribble sites.
May all our thoughts and prayers be with Siran’s family.

As someone who knows the pain of having a loved one snatched from them by someone else’s poor decision, and as a father to two young children, this story brings a tear to my eyes. My grandfather was killed by a drunk driver, and it left an indelible impression on me even at the age of 5. However, I can’t begin to imagine the horror that Siran and his extended family are going through right now.
May the Lord God place a hedge of protection around Siran & his daughter, and his healing hands on them. I pray that he knows his lost loved ones are in a better place, and as hard as it will seem, he can use their memory to further the cause against people who continue to make the terrible decision to drive drunk.

Seems like there’s been alot of adversity in the college football world this year. It’s sad that it takes tragedy to bring some perspective to all of our lives, those of us with kids need to Thank God for them everyday. Siran Stacy would love to do that I’m sure. Pray for the man, he is going to deal with something worse than death if he survives. Sympathy from Rocky Top, Siran.

My god. That’s horrible. My thoughts go out to the Stacy family and Im praying that Stacy is able to pull though and raise his daughter if she makes it. There isn’t too many people who would need each other than they do right now.
I swear the Alabama AD/president/governor whoever better tell Nick “character” Sabin to keep his f-in mouth shut and to not get within 100 yards of the media this week.
If I hear any sort of locker room speech about overcoming last weeks tragic loss and we have to beat AU for the sake of a former Alabama player’s dead wife and children to let the healing begin crap I think I’m going to end up choking on my own vomit. He’s already gone way past his quota of offending people this week.

I feel for Siran I can not imagine loosing a child let alone my wife and all my children.
A month ago My mother was killed much the same way and still can’t quite believe it.
My heart and prayers go out to him and his family.
With a quiet…. roll tide.

It’s amazing how the act of one selfish a-hole has affected thousands. God bless the Stacy family. Not many can relate to the place he is in right now.
Let’s have a good clean game Saturday and play with the heart of #27.

Having met siran Stacy once upon a time, I am of the belief that he is in fact a real class act. As Orson stated, this is beyond tragic. As a father of two young children, I cannot bear to even attempt to put myself in his shoes. I can imagine a feeling of having nothing to live for, but the little girl he has left is what he has to live for now.

Can’t find the right words to describe how this makes me feel. But y’all know what I mean. A moment of silence Saturday night will make us feel better, but only God can help Siran pull through this.

Just another reminder to be with our families tomorrow and really give thanks for them. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

As a father, my mind simply cannot process the horror of this situation. It simply refuses to compute. All I can do is offer up Siran and the family to the One that can help. May God bless and keep this entire family. Thanks to the Auburn guys for the kind words…great graphic NewAz.
Rook: I’ll not point out how incredibly base and despicable it was to disrespect Siran’s loss and the incredible class of the good people in this thread to take a shot at Nick Saban. I’ll simply hope you are ashamed of yourself, but realize, nah, probably not. Pathetic and sad.

Rook,
Since Metallibama will not point out how classless that was, I will. It is fun to poke at each other, but you showed your true colors by using this story to bash their coach. You must not be a parent. I hope you are not a fellow Vol.

NewAz,
Thoughtful thanks go out to the Auburn Nation for your understanding during a difficult time. I have no doubt that Auburn will find a way to honor the memory of Siran’s wife and children this Saturday.
I might leave the stadium after the honorarium. After this tragedy I really don’t care which school wins the game.

Rook – Wrong place wrong time. But for my respect and love for Siran Stacy I would express my true thoughts of your opinions.
EZ – thanks for the link. I was at that game and that play always appears in my mind’s eye at any mention of Siran Stacy.
I was in undergrad with Siran and he is a great person. His loss is too staggering to comprehend. The class and character shown by the participants on this blog in response to this tragedy is tremendous. Let’s all be thankful for our friends and family tomorrow and remember the Siran family in our thoughts and prayers.
God speed Siran, we are still cheering. I know you will pull through.

Let me say again from the Auburn Family how truly sorry I am for this. I lost a close friend our freshman year on the Plains to a drunk driver that walked away from the wreck. My best wishes for Stacy and his daughter.

My God, this is the worst thing in the world. I can’t begin to fathom the pain Stacy is in. You want to know what hell is? Talk to him in one year. Every moment of every day will go back to that moment from now until the day he passes. How do you rebuild a family or a career with that eating at your soul?

When I first met my husband, a die-hard ’Bama fan, I was inducted into football Saturdays. Having lived 27 years without college football, it was challenging to sit through the games at first. Finally, Siran Stacy caught my eye with his enthusiastic entry onto the football field. I watched for his jersey each Saturday and eventually learned the game.
My heartfelt sympathy to Siran, his family, and friends. I can’t fathom the gut-wrenching loss he is feeling, but I hope and pray that he will find comfort and that God will hold him in his mighty hands of love.

UPDATE: There was a moment of silence at the Iron Bowl. It was the first item of the pre-game program, while most fans were still sitting. During the announcement, the entire stadium rose to their feet to pay respect.
Normally during a moment of silence in the stadium, the folks still out on the concourse don’t know what’s happening and you can still hear them. Even they were quiet. In something ironic and eerie, the only thing you could hear was a police siren.
They also announced a fund set up by Stacy’s brother to help them through this.
