Rudy @ 22

I couldn't disagree more. I think NU would go backward FAST if we hired PJ. Our stockpiled talent at WR would be wasted. Our frail, not-so-fast QB would get pounded running between the tackles. You're right that Callahan brought in a ton of talent, but that talent isn't geared toward option football. It would take years for Johnson to bring in his kind of players. We went through a culture change once. Another drastic one is completely unnecessary.

More importantly the ceiling for that offense is where A&M is now. No thanks.

There seems to be a new notion in the media rating the players candidacy based on what the team would be without them. This is not an MVP award! Florida's record without Tim Tebow blah blah, Oregon without Dixon blah blah......Florida with Tim Tebow is a 3 loss team, without him who cares, second that for Dixon. Tebow has put up awesome numbers in a great system with outstanding talent around him. Last year McFadden was not given votes because of his sophomore status while no one seems to be thinking that way with Tebow. McFadden has shared carries with Felix Jones in a lesser program and has gained over 1000 yards each season. He should surpass Bo Jackson and move into 3rd SEC today all time. He is the best college player period, not the MVP, the best player period. I also would like to remind everyone ( especially in the Big TEN) if you give this award to Tebow he does stand a very good chance to repeat. I think it is a shame that McFadden be denied this award and it will be start to lose stature and be seen as a politically, biased award as time goes on. Darren's touchdowns off kick-offs also don't count in the stats, while I know most voters know that maybe some of the media people don't. I never in my lifetime thought I would have a running back out of the SEC be putting up numbers equal or superior to Bo Jackson and Herschel Walker, who was runner-up last year becoming an after-thought and talked about in such disparaging terms while lesser candidates are getting more mention. I remember a piece of advice given to me at a very young age telling me that to work harder, smarter but never let people know because no one wants to hear about how hard you work, study, you have to be a good ole boy to get anywhere in this world. Bill Clinton went on to great things and I'm know McFadden will as well but I just want the young man to receive the recognition he is due. Sincerely Yours, Dixie

Land of Os(borne) @ 17

truer words were never spoken about johnson.

if johnshon is hired at nebraska, he would be walking into a program that already has some fairly decent kids (joey ganz, roy helu and quentin castille). say what you will about callahan, but he did have an eye for talent.

paul johnson is the macgver of college football. he'd turn nebraska around in no-time.

Coop:

Remember, Osborne got his shot after working for a fiery defensive coach -- Bob Devaney. He had a fiery defensive coordinator working for him in Charlie McBride for most of his career. Oz isn't a Nebraska alumnus, Pelini came to Nebraska highly recommended by Monte Kiffin (who was once Oz's defensive coordinator), and Pelini did distinguish himself at Nebraska:

Nebraska's defensive rankings for total/rushing/pass/scoring/turnover margin:

2002, under Craig Bohl: 55/49/57/45/73 (21 takeaways)
2003, under Bo Pelini: 11/24/11/2/1 (47 takeaways)
2004, under Kevin Cosgrove: 56/11/110/71/110 (21 takeaways)

Yeah, there's a reason Bo Pelini is missed by some in Nebraska.

Ah, Maiden... why the 15 years of suck only to release one of your best albums last year, well after Bruce's voice was shot?

*sigh* I guess if we totally forget about the Blaze Bayley days, they've been strong on all but two or three albums.

I hope you are right, Land of, for your sake. The Big 12 needs a strong Nebraska and Colorado to complement Texas and Oklahoma, since I think most would agree that Mizzou and Kansas will go the way of Pop Rocks rather shortly.

If the above happens, and A&M gets strong again, the Big 12 could challenge the SEC for conference supremacy.

Coop @ 15

Osborne <a href="http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2007/10/29/huskerextra/football/doc4725348d20c1e147081758.txt" rel="nofollow">loves Urban-ball</a>, too. Dan Mullen's name has been bandied about much more than Glen Mason's.

If TO really wanted to re-make Husker football in his image, Paul Johnson would be the beginning and end of the conversation. I believe he'll be looking more broadly than most think.

In the "Truth & Rumors" page on CNNSI, the St. Paul Pioneer, sounds like a group of subpar Boy Scouts, stated that Glen Mason has always been an Osborne favorite and will receive "consideration" for the Nebraska job.

So, far the Nebraska coaching rumors have consisted of the following: Turner Gill, Glen Mason, and Bo Pelini.

Osborne seems hell bent on bringing back Nebraska football, his way, which means bringing in someone connected to him, which strikes Pelini, if you believe the media reports.

Osborne is going to keep you people mired in mediocrity.

Yes, you have ceded the Big 12 to Oklahoma and Texas, and you will continue to do so until you get a legitimate AD and a coach who is not either Callahan-esque, or wants to return Nebraska football to the 19th Century.

You may have noticed oregon's shameless pandering for a heisman trophy. The ad was Phil Knight's attempt to pay homage to the Beast by mentioning Dixon's 6 consecutive semesters of a 3.6 GPA, but this only angered the Beast. Oregon was supposed to give Dixon a 6.6 GPA for 6 semesters, thus the Beast struck down young Dixon.
