There’s also a Houston Chronicle column today that lists Spurrier as a candidate for the TAMU job.

HA! HA!

My company is actually thinking of hiring Spurrier as a lab tech.

by Bay Area Bear on Nov 6, 2007 4:00 PM EST reply actions

Spurrier is as far from Augusta National as he will ever get.

stole my comment. i not only saw that, but i was laughing my ass off.

Two weeks and those idiots at BN will be talking about how God wouldn’t be a big enough profile hire for their prestigious university. Congrats on all those football championships to go along with all that big talk fellas.

by blackertai on Nov 6, 2007 4:11 PM EST reply actions

Laughable at best, absurd otherwise. Have they been getting too much sun out in LA? They don’t call it westweird for nothing.

  1. Tru dat sir.

UCLA and GT seem like twins separated at birth. At times, unstoppable and menacing, but other times, completely poor. Both are public schools with great reputations and a disproportionate amount of Asian kids. Both school are also in their respective fertile crescents of recruiting talent, yet, here they are, with no conf. championships and not many big bowls to show for it in the last decade.

by Brian on Nov 6, 2007 4:16 PM EST reply actions

I appreciate everything Urban has done at UF, but I sure miss the OBC in G’ville.
I think pigs would fly before he went to the left coast for anything other than a bowl game or to play golf.

by Stockman on Nov 6, 2007 4:19 PM EST reply actions

They play football at UCLA?

by John Wooden on Nov 6, 2007 4:27 PM EST reply actions

Rumor is that the OBC is keeping an eye on the TAM situation. If Tuberville bolts, he would love to come to Auburn where he can take shots at both UGA and Saban every year. He’d have to settle for beating Fulmer only 2 out of every 5 years, but phatty will not be at UT much longer anyway.

by TIGERinATL on Nov 6, 2007 4:30 PM EST reply actions

Spurrier at UCLA makes sense for this reason, he wants to poke fun at Pete Carroll.

by Nick on Nov 6, 2007 4:31 PM EST reply actions

This is how the call from the AD at UCLA would go with Spurrier.

Yeah this is the head ball coach!

Yeah I told you he can really go!!!!!!!

UCLA??? Boy what and the hell are you talkin’ about?

California?

Spurrier hangs up the phone laughing and checking for hidden cameras suspecting he is on some type of game show.

by Odell 51 on Nov 6, 2007 4:32 PM EST reply actions

Honestly, after the past three weeks, he could go and I wouldn’t miss him.*

(*Not entirely true.)

You have any experience reading, or hearing, something so stupid for so many different reasons that you think your brain would explode if you began to explain how stupid it is?

You do now…

by Jerkwheat on Nov 6, 2007 4:37 PM EST reply actions

i like how they strike out meyer as a candidate for uclas at the moment. no offense to the bruins, who should be much better year after year than they are, but florida is just a better gig – overall – for meyer, or any ‘big time’ coach. the only reason to head to ucla is lower expectations. but they could be a dan good team, bit right now – they are not…

by Sam Gilbert's Ghost on Nov 6, 2007 4:41 PM EST reply actions

as long as we’re being ridiculous… i wouldn’t mind him at arkansas either…

by Adam on Nov 6, 2007 4:43 PM EST reply actions

  1. - Spurrier is too busy continuing to mock you for the football dormitory library fire to come to Auburn.

Best Spurrier line ever, as it was off the cuff. It is almost as if he was notified that he would be asked about the fire prior to the press conference…

by Coop on Nov 6, 2007 4:44 PM EST reply actions

I haven’t heard any Spurrier-to-Nebraska rumors yet. Maybe I’ll start them myself. Damn, do I have to do everything, people?

by cocknfire on Nov 6, 2007 4:44 PM EST reply actions

Oh, speaking of Fulmer. Drove past MsDonalds this morning. Sign said “McRib is Back”.

McFadden may put up 500 by himself this week, as distracted as Phil must be by this development.

by TIGERinATL on Nov 6, 2007 4:48 PM EST reply actions

All joking aside, it’s hard for a lot of people in the greater Los Angeles area to accept that someone might not want to live there – and that’s assuming that the UCLA job is worth taking for an established coach.

Dorrell’s going to leave UCLA in the kind of shambles that USC was in when Hackett got his pink slip. It’s not like the USC faithful were convinced that Pete Carroll was a great hire but at the time that was who the AD could get… and SC’s known as a football school.

by DC Trojan on Nov 6, 2007 4:52 PM EST reply actions

Ho Ho Ho Dept:

ucla ought to go after SABAN.

Offer him enough money and he will do anything anywhere, no matter how many lies and stuff he has to make along the way.

by Stacy Keibler Luvs Me on Nov 6, 2007 4:58 PM EST reply actions

Mark Richt to UCLA? I was ready for the Richt to FSU rumor, but would UCLA even be willing to pony up the kind of money any of the names these guys are bandying about would require? Richt would cost anyone a lot of money – but if it got out that UCLA or, I think, FSU even, were interested they’d be setting themselves up for the embarrassment of not getting their guy.

Richt isn’t leaving Georgia until we run him out on a rail – and that isn’t exactly likely.

by UgasTexan on Nov 6, 2007 4:58 PM EST reply actions

  1. - 100 cocktails to you. I was trying to work a joke in about the real Wizard of Westwood.

Well done.

by Coop on Nov 6, 2007 4:59 PM EST reply actions

I thought people in Kansas were the kings of meth? Judging from this story, its pretty popular in LA too.

by The Last Dragon on Nov 6, 2007 5:03 PM EST reply actions

Coope @ #26 – surely you’re not suggesting that they won all those championships on something other than ridiculous talent and coaching?

Those were the days, now it’s penny-ante book buying and rent-subsidizing scandals. Pah.

by DC Trojan on Nov 6, 2007 5:09 PM EST reply actions

Dammit, I meant “Coop.”

by DC Trojan on Nov 6, 2007 5:11 PM EST reply actions

Maybe 20 years ago. At least we know they still get VERY good weed in LA.

by OhioDawg on Nov 6, 2007 5:42 PM EST reply actions

ucla NEVER pays up for football coaches. dorrell was making 400K a year up until his contract extension last year.

by Bay Area Bear on Nov 6, 2007 6:11 PM EST reply actions

Bruins Nation* is not ready for Spurrier. I hate him with the heat of a nova, but the OBC can out-snark, out-pout, and out-snipe them in his sleep.

*the blog, not the fanbase.

by Holly on Nov 6, 2007 6:27 PM EST reply actions

That blog is run by total idiots. This is typical of the level of delusion over there. Living in USC’s shadow has made them twisted little puppies.

They will be calling for the head of the next coach 5 minutes after he is hired. (since they won’t get Spurrier, Richt, or Meyer). They are amusing but it is a matter of laughing AT them, not laughing WITH them.

by oc phil on Nov 6, 2007 6:54 PM EST reply actions

  1. - I heard that Spurrier was set to come to Auburn and the Yella Wood guy had it all arranged and no one believed him b/c he’s a major bullshitter. Spurrier then ended up going to USC.

by McLovin on Nov 6, 2007 9:06 PM EST reply actions

I loved how they were talking shit about Richt in one article, and almost immediately after it, they started talking about how much better talent Mark Richt could recruit at UCLA. Like Richt’s last 6 classes of all top 10 (some top 5) or better don’t outclass anything done in Westwood for a decade.

And really, who would want to leave the SEC for the Pac-10? Rich Brooks didn’t have time for that Pac-10 shit, but he’s got plenty for what goes on at Kentucky.

Maybe they can get Houston Nutt?

by blackertai on Nov 6, 2007 10:47 PM EST reply actions

Bruins Nation? People do realize this is the same blog that has been preaching on the one hand, Dorrell leading UCLA to 5 consecutive PAC-10 championships, and on the other hand, dumping him after every loss. They don’t exactly have any credibility.

However, I, for one, would truly be sad to see Dorrell go. His reign at UCLA has truly been an interesting ride. Beats Cal, loses to 1-8 ND.

by Jeff from LA on Nov 7, 2007 2:12 AM EST reply actions

How can anyone question the credibility of that blog. They concede that Urban is probably out of their league but feel there is a legitimate shot to get Spurrier, John Gruden, Mark Richt, Bill Cowher or freaking Jimmy Johnson.

Very reasonable.

The real reason that Tom O’Brien left Boston College is because Boise is colder than shit in December. It’s even colder than Massachusetts. BC started this year 8-0 and will probably end the regular season 8-4. It is an Eagle tradition to screw up in November. Who do you think they’ll play this year? Hawaii or Boise State?

by Clyde on Nov 7, 2007 10:10 AM EST reply actions

The only place I can see Richt going is to FSU after Bowden dies on the sidelines arguing with a ref.

  1. GT – How about Tyrone Nix?

by Out of Conference on Nov 7, 2007 10:44 AM EST reply actions

Spurrier ain’t going shitwhere. That blog picks out articles where SOS is saying something to make a point and takes it and runs with it that he is not happy here, even though all he talks about repeatedly is how happy he is and that this is his last job.

by cockengr on Nov 7, 2007 11:05 AM EST reply actions

Spurrier is coming to Auburn to be Offensive coordinator under new HC Bobby Lowder. Miles is going to the Asylum, Orgeron leaves for SMU, Tuberville back to Ole Miss, Arkansas and aTm at the same time, Saban back to LSU, Applewhite HC at Bama, Nutt to Nebraska, Callahan to Hoover high, Richt to FSU, Muschamp to UGA, Urban Meyer fired for 7-5 season and replaced by Jesse Palmer, Belicheck to USC, Cowher to Penn State after Joe Pa is put down and Zook to Michigan after Lloyd retires. That ought to cover it.
