Before Paul Bunyan’s Axe, Minnesota and Wisconsin played for the “Slab of Bacon” trophy starting in 1930 until it went missing in the 1940s. It turned up in a Camp Randall storage room in 1994, mysteriously inscribed with all of the U of M-UW game scores through 1970. By then, however, the Gophers and Badgers were playing for the Axe, of course. I don’t know where the Slab of Bacon is now.
