DAILY AFFIRMATION: DAY 3
Ahem. Be prepared to be totally wrong, college football fan. There are no pundits. (Except for Phil Steele. He's a macheeeeen.)

Why? Because there was no possible way Chris Leak was going to win that game for Florida. None. He’s not that good, and never will be. There’s no anger in saying that, no resentment, and no bitterness. It’s just what he is, a statement made free of predjudice, irrational reasoning, and malice. Off the field, he’s everything you’d want a player to be: polite, a good citizen, and a dedicated member of the community. On the field, he’s Doug Johnson with slightly better wheels, and there’s three and a half years of game tape to prove it.
--EDSBS, 10/15/06. Brilliant stuff, there.

I never understood the Florida fan’s animosity to Leak. The dude had terrific seasons under bad coaches for two years and a decent one in a completely new system that didn’t really suit his talents. Ultimately, he left as the Gators’ all-time leading passer and the second QB to lead them to a national title. You people are fucking unreasonable. Spurrier really spoiled you. And good as I think Tebow will be, he’s not going to be better than Leak this year.

I agree with rickus. How many qb’s could have adjusted like that and still win it all?
I don’t know why I never posted this for you all, but enough with static images for friday. I submit to you all..Caliente’ Video

The reason we had a problem with Leak is because he is a pussy. The sliding short of the first down when we needed it got really old really fast. But I will say I was very proud of the way he played against OSU.

I don’t get it-what is that a picture of? Did he carve that thing himself at summer camp or something? It looks suspiciously like a MNC trophy, but I don’t remember there being a game last year.

Auburn and ECU’s 11th-hour Fulmer Cup scores are like those people who take 9 hours to run charity 10k.
The winners have long-since gone home, showered, banged the wife, showered, put on the suit, hammered down a few drinks at the reception, and are patiently awaiting the awards ceremony at the charity dinner.
And then there’s the never-say-die crowd. There they are… plodding away the last hundred yards of pavement. No one to cheer them and their soiled shorts but their own hallucinations. Staggering towards a finish line that is no longer there, they take satisfaction in knowing that they did it…. they made the Big Board.

I’ll never forget watching the title game and thinking OSU’s coaches must not have watched any film of Leak all year…
…and this season, a certain internet radio show’s co-host is going to be very wrong about a certain SEC coach.

All’s that ends well, right? All those slides short of the first down marker, turnovers, having the reputation (among his own teammates) of being soft – none of that mattered in the end. He got us to the promised land after years in the desert…any player who could survive the [Name Redacted] era and come out a champion…100+ cocktails for all!

Billy in Red Stick – If they’re wrong about Miles, so will I be. If he makes it to the SEC title game I’ll be stunned if he actually manages to win it.

Jerry Hinnen is a jackass and a douchebag.

I’m happy the kid ended his career at Florida on a high note.
Bring on Tebow!

Certainly with Doug “Dumb Jock” Johnson’s minor league baseball $$ he had better wheels than Leak. Too bad for DJ that was all that arrogant cocksucker had over Chris “Made His Championship Promise Come True” Leak.

Even if LSU makes it to and wins the SECCG, the credit will go to the level of talent. I fully expect the people that already have animosity to Miles to keep it, no matter how much he might win.
by LSUJoshua on Aug 29, 2007 9:53 AM EDT reply actions
the big white hat is in trouble. i feel the only way he can win over his fanbase is by winning a mnc. i mean imagine if he loses in the seccg this year. he could go 11-2 (again) and many people would be calling for his head. he’s just got so much charisma though.

Look at LSU’s recruiting class this coming year. The drop off has already begun. I figure LSU has 1-2 years to take the cake again but after that they will fall into a slump just like most other teams that ride the wave of ups and downs.

I just remember Les Miles almost eating Bonnie Bernstein’s head at the halftime interview during the LSU UT game. And one funny thing about Miles—-I went to a Ok State game two years ago and we got to talking about Miles with the fans. They kept telling us that Miles will always have the flashy talent and the wins. He just was never able to get his talented OSU teams over the hump and into a position for a conference championship. Deja Vu?

Congrats Gators! Chris Leak is a perfect example of everything that is right in college football – we need more PEOPLE like him in college football. You guys really whipped our asses, but please don’t hold it against us that the media picked us to win in a landslide, be grateful. We were grateful for it in 2002.

the only word I would use to describe Chris Leak is prematurely-bald. Oh wait, that’s 2 words.

I’m a little young to remember this far back in recruiting, but why did Leak’s recruitment get so much media coverage? Rivals has him as a 4* guy, which is good, but why do I remember reading about this guy all year in SI, when they usually don’t touch recruiting?
by Liam on Aug 29, 2007 11:45 AM EDT reply actions
Liam, there were alot of things at work. He and Kyle Wright were regarded as the 2 best QB’s coming out that year. Florida’s pipeline of QB’s, while not bad, was mainly Gavin Dickey and Ingle Martin (thus, UF fans were excited). He committed on national tv (ESPN) at a time just before and as it was becoming commonplace for announcement to be made on national tv (increased hype). It was also during Zook’s first year (and media scrutiny related thereto), and many saw it the first indication of Zook’s potential longetivity in Gainesville (if I may be so bold).
Mix it up, shake uncomfortably for 3 years, get a new coach, and Presto! A Championship.
by Ltrain on Aug 29, 2007 11:58 AM EDT reply actions
I didn’t have as much a problem as alot of Gator fans with Leak’s mistakes playing QB (e.g. bad reads, throwing into coverage, etc). But, there was no excuse on third down when he slid short of a first down to avoid contact. This happened more than once, and that’s why he was viewed as soft.
That said, thank goodness for Chris Leak. He saved the program from the [NAME REDACTED] era. It wasn’t just the fact that he chose Florida over Iowa. He was the reason that alot of other players in that class chose Florida that year, and there would not have been a MNC last year without him.

So he finished 1 MNC short of his prediction. He still remains a douchebag.
Did he ever get a girlfriend?
by Hobnail_Boot on Aug 29, 2007 3:29 PM EDT reply actions
Leak slid like a girl and it pissed everyone off but he won when the chips were down. Lots of “good” QBs last year were 180 out- the heisman, the savior at Notre Dame, 2 tipped balls and booty.
