BLAKE MITCHELL SUSPENDED.

Blake Mitchell needs to prioritize like Taneyhill: front, business;back, party.
The tradition of bon vivant quarterbacks at South Carolina continues: Blake Mitchell, d-d-d-d-dancin' fool, has been suspended for the opener at Louisiana-Lafayette for missing an excessive number of classes during summer session in Columbia. (ONE HUNDRED COCKTAILS in the internet marketing department for first announcing the suspensions on his website, spurrierhbc.com. That's synergy, baby!)
Mitchell, like his predecessor Steve Taneyhill, has had trouble in social situations with alcohol and also enjoys a festive jig from time to time. The game is versus the team whose name appears as "UL-LAF" on the scoreboard in the EA: NCAA video games. And against South Carolina, even without starter Mitchell, we probably will do just that by the late second quarter.

Don’t underestimate the Ragin’ Cajuns, Swindle. We may just suprise you. Probably not, but maybe.
And we prefer to just go by UL. If we’re going by full names on this site, then please refer to Louisiana State as LSU A&M at Baton Rouge. Asshole.

Well, if it isn’t South Carolina’s answer to Joe Willie Namath.
In Tanneyhill’s defense, I am a fan since he convinced Gaines Adams to stick around for his senior season, he was at a party that got busted up, and he was having a beer. Supposedly, the cops pulled him out of a crowd to give him is MIP.
Conversely, Mitchell sucker punches a bouncer at Pavlov’s and runs.
Mitchell might also want to look into some Rogaine in the near future. That combover is looking bad enough today. Soon he will become the fair-haired Gene Keady.

impirius—we should have a great running game, but our passing game is questionable at best right now. Another problem is that we run a hurry up offense, and in order to sneak away from one of the “big boys” with a win, we’ll need to control the clock. If we get stuffed a few times and keep running a hurry up, things could get bad, quick.
Billy in Baton Rouge: quit being a dick.
For the 2 of you out there that would enjoy reading this (Billy and LSUJoshua), here is a summary of the University of Louisiana. LSU A&M at BR for some reason doesn’t want us to be just UL.

RCR, all UL fans are open to ridicule, whether they’re flipping out about their name or not. As a Tiger fan in Lafayette, I use ‘UL,’ as to avoid the possibility some little old lady will shove a pencil in my eye and scream, “Are U Laf-ing now?!?”
By the way, the moons are aligning for a UL upset – they damn near pulled one off at USC two or three years ago. AND, last night Tyrell Fenroy ran for 230 yds and 3 touchdowns against USC on my NCAA 2008 dynasty to seal a two-touchdown upset victory. If EA says it could happen, it could happen.

Joshy—scores and games are not the point. (Note: I know, they never are when you’re on the bad end of them.) Regardless, the fact that our football team struggles a good bit at times does not have anything to do with the Cajuns right to be known simply as Louisiana.
Also, our record in basketball is better than decent, and in baseball we’ve been much better than y’all for some time now. (And don’t bring the "We have 6 Nat’l Championships from the Skip Bertman era crap, either. 1) It’s too obvious of a come back; 2) Skip has managed to cripple your baseball team with his greed, hiring Turtle just to keep camp money in his pocket. It’s sad and was illegal, but that’s not the issue either.)
Also, OOC—RP’s alleged involvement is this, from what I hear: 4 guys show up to fight. They run away. They arrived in RP’s tahoe. The cops show up, just as the tahoe is leaving the parking lot. Xavier Carter, who has not been alleged to have been involved, is driving, b/c RP didn’t have the balls to return to the scene of the crime to get his own truck.
So RP is, once again, is just close enough to illegal activity to be involved, but just far enough away to not be arrested at the scene. That’s exactly what I want out of a quarterback. But Miles’ form of discipline makes Sly Croom and Urban Meyer look like wardens at Angola.

Unhappy Monkey: I like U of Life. I’ll see if I can get that done. I think that Pete Carroll may have the rights to that, though.
And all we want is to be able to refer to ourselves as Louisiana or UL, much like the U of Texas, U of North Carolina, U of Arkansas, etc. But Act 45 (the “LSU Rule”) stipulated that the city designation must be used in all official university business and has since grown far beyond its original legislative language, to regulate minute details such as font sizes to be used by the respective universities.
Additionally, the bill insisted that LSU was, and would remain, the “flagship university” of Louisiana. This was odd for a legislative act that had absolutely no bearing on LSU or the LSU System. Finally, that act changed the name of the Board of Trustees to the "University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors."
If that isn’t the most ass backwards legislation, I don’t know what is. It’s obvious the intent of the bill. But you can’t even admit to it. But, like most obnoxious LSU fans, you probably didn’t attend and graduate from LSU.
That is all. JoshUA—done.

And by supposedly, I guess I mean alledgedly or whatever.
So anyway….
Two football players and an unknown number of dudes get into a scrap at an apt complex. One rumor says it stopped and the butthurt football players called the revenge squad. The other one says it was a big group wantin’ to be badass on some football players. Either way, something in the neighborhood of 14 players in 4 vehicles show up (those numbers could be wrong, like Vince Young’s wunderlic wrong). One of those guys is Odom, a decent backup LB. Odom gets all Ultimate Warrior (criminal damage to property) on the apartment door the other party is now hiding behind. The apt. mgr. shows up and their requests to cease and desist are rewarded with an offer of a free ass whipping from Odom (simple assault). Odom also decides someone’s car needs to get some and lets the air out of tires, keys the passenger side and damages mirrors.
Cops show up and everyone bails. Later, the apt. mgr. points out a vehicle that is leaving the parking lot just then. It is stopped and track star, current United States badass at the 200m and ex-LSU student athelete (and Florida traitor, right Orson?) is driving. It’s RP’s car. He sent someone else to go get his car since he didn’t need to get caught up in the mess.

Why does it matter to ULL so much? Is it less of school if it is ULL. Is it a better school if it is UL. You don’t see UCLA bitching. It reminds me of the chiropractors who are professionally/personally offended if you call them Mister instead of Doctor. You don’t see the same reaction from M.D.’s.

Unhappy Monkey, if it’s not that big of a deal, then what does it matter to you? Why did the Legislature go through so much trouble to block it? Why did a bill that had nothing to do with LSU have to include language stating that LSU is the flagship school of the state? I feel sorry for you more than anything, Monkey. So worried about little ole us…
And Kleph, the Bulldog is still great. But downtown Lafayette has grown and looks great now, too. The women are beautiful, and they all seem to have a perfect morally casual attitude.
by RaginCajunRebel on Aug 24, 2007 10:54 AM EDT reply actions
RCR – I’m not worried about ULL, so there is no need to feel sorry for me on that account, on others… maybe. You brought LSU into this on your first post, uninstigated. I have always liked ULL and Lafayette, and I have read and enjoyed some of your posts in the past, including head butt stories in bars (which I am not personally unfamiliar with). I also admire the cajun hotstick story.
I thought you might have some insight in what seems to be UL’s onesided issue with LSU. I already know about the legislative/historical “struggle” ULL has “endured”, so you haven’t added anything new there.
You still have not answered why USL agreed to be ULL when it wanted to be UL?
The fact that USL agreed to be ULL, then immediately demanded, and continues to demand that it be acknowledged as THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA, shows that the legislature was correct in seeing the need to state the obvious to all but ULL, i.e. LSU was, and would remain, the "flagship university" of Louisiana.
by Unhappy Monkey on Aug 24, 2007 11:38 AM EDT reply actions
The reason that the University agreed to the name change was that the president of the University wanted the name change to be part of his legacy. Not to blast Dr. Authement he has done many great things for the University. But as an alumnus I would have rather we stayed USL or became the University of Louisiana and not the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
