EDSBS: HIGH LIKE THE INCA

What to do whilst savoring the announcement of Florida State as the most overrated program of the past decade?

Marvel at the scenery of Peru and the beauty of OC Phil's t-shirt in this picture taken at Macchu Picchu in Peru.

Why not get your own here? Guaranteed to induce earthquakes of staggering proportions during your vacations to exotic locales (offer extends to South America only...so far.)

Thanks to OC Phil, who like blog bundafuhrer Kleph survived safe and sound, as well. He traveled to Pisco, the town hardest hit by the quake. See the slideshow here and read more here.

I’m not sure I’ll ever get over Macchu Picchu

Speaking of exotic EDSBS travels…is there an itenerary established to document the next 3-4 months-worth of Saturdays yet?

Maybe I should just speak in plain English: What road-trips are you fuckers planning this fall?

by Aerobab on Aug 20, 2007 1:23 PM EDT reply actions

Jerkwheat – I Agree, watching clouds rise from the Urabamba (sp) was spectacular….well, at least for me.

The other saps in my family were stricken with the humbling Mucho Puke-o.

Those kids who race the buses down the mountain; sub 4.4 speed?

In my next life, I want to be a bundafuhrer.

Glad to hear our way-south contingent is okay.

Orson, Orson,Orson,

I am surprised that you have not yet discovered the travesty of Mr. Mark Schlabach “original” article where he determines what schools are over-rated.

As you may remember, three weeks ago, yours truly emailed you a link to my web site, where I penned an article entitled “Most Over-Rated: Big Ten or SEC”. In honesty, I was looking for an honorable mention on the EDSBS pages, as I believe my “original” work was worthy of mention.

Never did I imagine that Mr. Schlabach would steal my idea and pass it on as his own with even the slightest mention or acknowledgement of my methodology.

This is an absolute outrage and I hope that you will save my email to you as proof that, I, the Robnosticator, was in fact the inspiration of Mr. Schlabach article.

We call upon you to champion our cause and bring light to this matter.

Proof is here… decide for your selves.

Macchu Picchu looks amazing. I’ve seen ruins (Chichen Itza) but nothing quite so awe-inspiring as that.

important note concerning peru. please do not visit until you can correctly spell “machu picchu” and, if possible, pronounce it halfway decently.

Continuation from #3…
Sorry, maybe I should have been more clear yet…I was inquiring about the travel plans of Orson, TCOAN, Stranko, et al.

Fuck it, thread jack, everyone feel free to tell us where you’re going!

Ive got a couple nice little saturdays planned out…no bed bath and beyond, probably won’t be enough time, but so far the slate looks like:

4 GT games in ATL
@UVA
@UMd
@SMU v Rice
prolly one or more Navy games since I live down the street from the stadium.

(Insert opponent here) @ ND x 7
ND @ PSU
ND @ Mich
ND @ Purdue
ND @ UCLA
Possibly Miami (OH) @ Vanderbilt

One of these things is not like the other! One of these things does not! Be! Long!

Macu Picchu is awe-inspiring indeed. Much like the bus ride up the switchbacks is a new form of terror-inspiring (ooh, we’re going to PASS AN ONCOMING BUS ON A 10 FOOT WIDE TRAIL ON THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN! YAY!)…

Other notes: Lima sucks like sucks never imagined it could suck in its wildest dreams of sucking.
Pretty sure it’s mandated that every one of their ten billion vehicles put out at least 8 tons of carbon/mile.
And of course, by vehicle, I mean “Schoolbus or van carcass with at least 50 passengers ready to jump out of the nearest metal orifice once the vehicle slows down to 10mph or so at its ironically named ‘stops’”.

Cusco on the other hand, is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen.

As far as random pictures of a t-shirt in worldwide locales go, I’m partial to the Little Lebowski Achievers.

by Palouse on Aug 20, 2007 3:47 PM EDT reply actions

  1. Did you guys try the coca leaves or tea that was available everywhere? That really did work against the sorache (altitude sickness) at least as long as we kept drinking/chewing. At least MP is lower than Cusco, so it was a bit of relief to go there. And the kids who race the buses down the mountain are amazing, though they do take a bunch of short-cuts.
  1. Actually Macchu Picchu is smaller than many people expect. Last year we visited the Mayan ruins at Tikal in Guatemala and Mayan pyramids were themselves more impressive. But the mountaintop setting of Macchu Picchu makes it an experience that blows away anywhere else I’ve been.

We also visited the Peruvian Amazon on this trip and that was fantastic too. If anyone has seen the Anthonly Bordain’s “No Reservations” on Peru, we went to most of the same places he did (we even stayed that the same jungle lodge and visited the same shaman). We caught some piranahs out of the river but threw them back rather than eating them.

  1. Drivers in Peru are amazing. There would be mass carnage in the USA if people tried half of what they do down there. Lanes, red lights, stop signs are more guidelines than rules it seems. Maybe that’s why most people in Lima didn’t seem THAT scared by the earthquake, they’d used up their adrenaline on the roads.

Heh… I wore my burning couch t-shirt while in Brazil, didn’t get a chance to wear it in front of any Brazilian landmarks. But I do have a picture of a brasilera hanging on me while wearing the EDSBS shirt…

Orson and I both intend on Florida v. LSU. Florida v. South Carolina might be a possibility as well. Orson may also have a few others up his sleeve as well.

by Stranko Montana on Aug 20, 2007 5:43 PM EDT reply actions

Right now the only confirmed game for me is going to be the Florida v SC game, since it’s more or less local for me. May slip in to some of the other SC games if I get a chance, to see the OBC smack some teams around, on his way to smacking us where we get there =/

Orson, Stanko and Holly coming to little old me’s tailgate.

It’s why I drank till 11;30 and rode home screaming Dropkick Murphy’s songs like Shipping Up To Boston. Gotta be ready. Glenn Dorsey ready y’all.

But. It will only be right if TexasGal shows.

And maybe Rajun Cajun Rebel, that Ole Miss fag.

How that crowd will blend with my parents, my regular friends, friends parents and local municipal law enforcement, I haven ’t figured out yet.

  1. - I’m guessing Peru will need as much tourist, relief, and search/recovery money as they can get right now so the rules about not visting the country and spending large sums of American money unless you can pronounce & spell one of the major local tourist spots are probably temporarily relaxed. Just a guess.

I was there last Tuesday, and it’s really one of the few things in life that hasn’t disappointed me.
There was lots of gringoness there, (in that I ran into a couple of law school classmates and got about a half dozen shout-outs for my jmu t-shirt) but I must say, if I had run into a guy with an EDSBS t-shirt of the way up wainu picchu, I probably would have pooped my pants.
