The last time Michigan played in a SEC stadium, there was no SEC (Vandy- 1922). It was the SIAA. So using Llyod Carr as an authority on stadium volume is beyond weak.

Michigan did play in Columbia, SC once, but it was 7 years before they joined the SEC (’85).

And Warthen, I know how you feel, Michigan refused to play in Auburn, too.

UGA doesn’t get credit for their OOC schedule until they actually play those games at UCLA, UO, and CU. They haven’t played a game out of the south in something like 40 years. Same goes for Florida. Yes FSU is a great OOC game, but it’s in your state. Reverse goes for Michigan. Playing a game in the south once a decade shouldn’t be too much to ask.

Like I said, it’s half and half. Some SEC teams have been huge in their scheduling, others not so much. There are still some embarassing ooc schedules there.

As for the loudest college stadium for one big game, I would trust Lloyd Carr (who’s been at Michigan forever and says Autzen is the loudest) and Matt Hayes (who has been to all of them) over some SEC fans on a message board.

Also, the stadium is built like an ampitheatre. The decibels are loudest out on the field. So those who are saying well it wasn’t loud in the crowd, know that it gets much louder at ground level. So get better seats to judge.

Understood. That’s the same reason Auburn fans stuck around for the 2005 Iron Bowl (aka “21-0 before you finished the hot dog” or “Honk if you just sacked Brodie”).

OU undergrad, ND law here. During law school, I took two classmates who were Oregon alums down to Norman for the OU/Oregon game. Both the Oregon kids spent the whole drive down talking about how loud Autzen was. After the game, they both acknowledged that Memorial Stadium was much louder than Autzen. They were also impressed that Sooner girls shaved their legs and pits.

Screw all of those loudest stadium comparisons, I only care about one statistic: USC is undefeated at home for the last 33 games in a row. I don’t care how loud your stadium is if you still lose at home.

Plus, I don’t understand how SEC fans can make fun of Pac X fans……..I mean, I even wear my very own SC jersey to games, and that thing was expensive!

#21 (DC Trojan) – I don’t personally know any Auburn fan that thinks that way. I only see it online, which puts the odds at 50% that it’s actually a bama fan.

Given the tone of Auburn / Alabama threadjacks, that’s completely plausible.

USC/Auburn 2004 was too close to call going in and could have gone either way, much like the Rose Bowl against UT.

because USC/Oklahoma was “the game everybody wanted to see” ($1 to Herbstreit), even though most people turned it off in the 2nd quarter.

Janus, you’re showing your ignorance on this subject. Here’s a hint–just because an OOC game is a rivalry game and just because it is late in the year doesn’t mean that it’s not a big OOC game. We have several of those in the SEC and they are constantly overlooked by folks outside the conference.

UGA-GT, UK-Louisville, UF-FSU, and SCU-Clemson happen every year just like USC-ND. Those games are constantly overlooked just because they aren’t rare OOC games.

Here are some recent and upcoming matchups for SEC teams that I left out earlier so that you can actually learn a little bit about my favorite league.

Auburn–USC, K-State, West Virginia and Clemson
LSU–ASU, Virginia Tech, and Colorado
Miss State was mentioned above
Ole Miss–Georgia Tech, Clemson, Texas Tech

I agree, Janus, you once had a point–but not since the addition of the 12th game.

I’d also like to point out that you may want to rethink your underlying assumption that it’s the SEC teams who are afraid to travel. I know my Bulldogs have had a hell of a time getting a series with a top 15 caliber team. I’m looking at you Michigan.
