1) Tennessee. The whole fraking state is in the stadium, and I was given 2nd-row seats to the game by a random guy in Orange. Probably because he appreciated the ingenuity of my ad-hoc "Irish Elvis" duds, and couldn't smell all the bourbon on my breath.
I expected Michigan to be awesome, but it was not rowdy at all by even ND standards. I imagine an SEC fan would fall asleep in Ann Arbor.
2) Between the hedges. If only because Keith Jackson made that phrase immortal.
3) Capilene underwear. No shock worse than when your ass-crack first hits the seat during halftime of a late November game in northern Indiana. The hollwed and ancient wood bleachers are petrified into stone, so it's like a punch in the balls if you're not wearing layers.
4) Said visit to Tennessee in 1999. I was an annihilated asshole stumbling around town, literally lost for hours in a bourbon haze. Couldn't find our tailgater or any tickets after about 2 pm. I litterally stumble into free 2nd-row seats, get shit thrown at me all game by Tennessee fans, somehow avoid ejection, then weep as the Irish fold in the 4th quarter. Went to random bar after game, woke up in random outdoorsy place. And yet somehow I found my ride back to Chicago on Sunday.

A Swing Out Sister reference. Awesome.

Oh, and for the record, UIUC. They can throw down in Champaign. Any town whose name sounds like a variety of booze is all right with me.

PJ @ #49: Last I checked, it wasn't really a "series", just an every-20 year or so thing. Not sure when the last time we played you guys before that was, but sure, I'd be for it. There's a bit of history there--after all, we poached Ara from you guys in the '60's. I thought there was going to be a repeat with Barnett after Holtz left--I *think* I'm happy we didn't do that, but it's hard to say that the next two were a good decision. But hell yeah--Soldier Field was awesome. And the whole "Commander in Chief's Trophy" is a little old, don't you think? Navy's a better program (at the moment) than Northwestern, and last year was the first time we'd played all three of the Academies in over a decade. Trust me, I'd be happy to drop Air Force and Army and pick up NU.

1. What’s the best road trip destination you’ve been to in college football?
Probably Pittsburgh in 2002 - Not exactly a distance, but more tickets were sold for that game than were sold for the AFC Championship game the previous year - all Mountaineer fans... it was glorious.

2. What’s the road trip destination you want to take most?
Based on our schedule - Auburn in 2009. But just because I can, I want to go to a game at Ole' Miss. I've heard good things.

We want Morgantown at night. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fire booze WOOOOOO!!!
Indeed, sir.... indeed. I would love to meet TCOAN.

3. What’s your essential road gadget?
My iPod

4. What’s your most impressive road performance?
Somewhere in Utah in June.

I’ve also always wanted to watch a Washington game from a boat in Puget Sound.

It’s better watching from the boat on Lake Washington than it is inside, believe me. As someone who has been to games at both the Swamp and Husky Stadium, there is absolutely no comparison. The atmosphere, intensity, fans and the stadium itself is far superior down in Hogtown. Husky fans love to tout how great it is there, and that must be because they’ve never experienced games at places like Florida, Auburn, LSU, PSU, OSU, Mich, etc.

My list:

1. LSU, at night. Loud, loud, loud. And a heckuva lot of fun.

2. Camp Randall for a rivalry game

3. A health supply of Tums. Gadget? Probably GPS and a radar detector, especially if you’re driving the back country roads to Auburn. P.S. Don’t speed through Enigma (that’s not a typo).

4. Driving to Philly for Spring Fling at Penn. Those Ivy Leaguers sure can drink, and it’s definitely necessary to overcome the lack of female talent. I’ve never seen so many decent looking college guys with 2 am last call looking women. But oh, the philly steaks.

Nate #41 - that NU-ND series really ought to be renewed, even if Soldier Field has been turned into a flying saucer.

For some reason, your folks lost interest in it, once we put our program on a sound footing. Or is it really that much more fun to compete for the Commander-in-Chief's trophy?

#13- unfortunately, you'd be watching a UW game from Lake Washington not Puget Sound, though this isn't bad either. Great tailgating by boat right by the stadium!

1a) Single Game: Tuscaloosa for OU/Bama 2003. Good game, nice tailgating, decent fans (for the most part)

1b) Overall: Cotton Bowl for the RRS... Always... forever...

2) Oooh, tough one. If Syracuse ever gets good again and can pack the house, I'd like to see a game in the Carrier Dome.

3) Tickets!!

4) (warning... band dork moment) Deciding to go on the pep-band trip Boulder for OU/Colorado in 2003. The only problem I wasn't on the list of those taking the trip. I did not have a seat on the bus, was not on the room reservation list, and did not have per diem set aside for me... and yet somehow I wound up with all three. No one ever found out.

1. Tempe, AZ, besides from the game. ASU is stacked full of suntanned hot chicks, kickass bars, and its warm.

2. To Penn State, unless OSU would play in Baton rouge. My college roomates went to state college in 05, and despite the loss, said it was great. They went with no hotel, slept in their car in november, and all had puked in the car throughout the night.

3. Since I lost my vintage OSU Swim-Team t-shirt, I will have to say cases of natty/busch light.

4. Going to UM in 05. Chugging a bottle of Captain, pushing my passed-out friends face into his own puke, doing a 40 second keg stand, accidentally shitting on the lid of the toilet in the womens room, since the mens room was out of service, and getting lost in ann arbor.

1. Definately Notre Dame. The fans treat you well whether your team kicks their ass or their's kicks your'n. I also now understand why people hold that place in such regard....even a hater can tell that it's a special place.

2) Oxford for the view.

3) Car keys. I've lost them too many times to count. Each time I was royally fucked.

4) Spring baseball trip in college. I got some "Southern Hospitality" on the short grass in front of the pitcher's mound in the Red Sox stadium in Winter Haven before the Grounds Keep turned on the sprinkler's at 4 am., and I also was treated to the same hospitality in Dothan Alabama by the equivilant of Gator Getters, and the same happened at Chipola College in the pan handle.

2.) Hawaii / UNLV - Not sure I could survive tailgating in Vegas, but I'd damn well try.

3.) Ipod and a prepaid bail bond.

4.) I karaoked Rocky Top at "The Cats Meow" in New Orleans during Mardi Gras..and only suffered minor bruising from a tossed bottle.

1. Sadly, didn't make it to many road games during my time under the Dome. Soldier Field vs. Northwestern, 1994, has to be my vote. Though I've certainly done enough traveling to be able to watch games on TV, here in Asia. Saw a game in the Swamp once, but that was pre-Spurrier, so I'm not counting it.

2. Iron Bowl--would love to feel the hate in the air, and see some Southern rivalry. Also, would love to catch a game anywhere else in the SEC. A game in Hawaii would be pretty sweet too.

3. Vital for games? My Armed Forces Network satellite, a waffle iron, and coffee. Getting up at 2 AM to catch the game requires, nay--DEMANDS caffeine. My roommate and I used to get up at 1 AM, fix pancakes and drink bloody marys while watching CFB until noon, but those days are over.

4. I just moved to Kumamoto (think Japan's Iowa) from the Tokyo area--getting here required a 24 ride on a ferry and then driving through mountain roads in a typhoon. Seriously, they closed the expressway because of fog, and diverted us to a 2-lane (read: 1.5 lane in US size) road through mountains worse than West Virgina--and this makes sense how??

3. Vital for games? My Armed Forces Network satellite, a waffle iron, and coffee. Getting up at 2 AM to catch the game requires, nay–DEMANDS caffeine. My roommate and I used to get up at 1 AM, fix pancakes and drink bloody marys while watching CFB until noon, but those days are over.

4. I just moved to Kumamoto (think Japan’s Iowa) from the Tokyo area–getting here required a 24 ride on a ferry and then driving through mountain roads in a typhoon. Seriously, they closed the expressway because of fog, and diverted us to a 2-lane (read: 1.5 lane in US size) road through mountains worse than West Virgina–and this makes sense how??
