NCAA ARRIVES--JOIN THE EDSBS LEAGUE AND BE WHOLE
NCAA 2008 arrives tonight. It's business time, thumb warriors.
But before you carry on for much longer than two minutes with your newfound digital paramour, be sure to join the EDSBS NCAA 2008 league set up so lovingly by commenters Wooderson and Class of 2007. It's open to all platforms (except the Wii--apologies, but you've still got bowling, right?) and open for business time as we speak.
We will be playing on there as soon as we drag ass down to the nearest Best Buy and purchase the hot ivory glowing sex toaster monster with the luminescent and bewitching green eye some people call an XBox 360. Then...it's business taaaaahhhhhme.
Oh, and lest you forget: Christmas comes twice tomorrow when Phil Steele comes to EDSBS Live.

Indeed.
I signed up for the league, but I hope they don’t mind my 360 is currently in the clutches of the MS repair center in Texas….

Wait, it’s out today?! I didn’t think it was available until Tuesday, and even then the “Tuesday” ship date normally means “Wednesday.” Not like it matters…my 360 also is being repaired (Aren’t they all?).

Orson,
Who are those guys? I saw a bit of their Comedy Central show. I thought their song about the girl who mistakes the guy for another guy who knocked her up was funny.

The wife informed me it was business time after watching those guys last night. Don’t know whether to be suspicious or grateful…Either way, I put my business socks on and got on with business. Who’s the Boom King? I’m the Boom King!

1 – The game doesn’t actually come out today. It comes out on Phil Steele Day (Tuesday the 17th). Registration for the league opens today.
2 – Those guys are Flight of the Conchords. They’ve got some hilarious shit on Youtube. Search for “Jenny.” They also have their own show on HBO.
FIGHT ON

failure rates on 360’s are hovering around the 30-40% range. apparently the power drop from plugging it into a power strip instead of directly into the wall is enough to mess with the circuits, or because parts overheat if the fans drop 10rpm’s.
owning an Xbox360 is kind of like dating someone with terminal cancer.

Bought my PS3 on Saturday and will be a BestBuy bright and early with the rest of the geeks tomorrow morning.
Game on.

So which would be better, PS3 or Xbox 360?

@#9: Thing is, mine wasn’t even the heating issue… mine was scratching the hell out of my poor copy of Guitar Hero II.
by asim on Jul 16, 2007 7:31 PM EDT reply actions
Ok kids listen up.
IF you put your xbox360 horizontal, you’re asking for scratches.
Go vertical at all times.
And NDTom, take it back. No one understands me or loves me as much as my xbox360 does, and I refuse to acknowledge that Vanessa is the least bit ill.

@#15: The hilarious thing about this advice is no one agrees on this. In fact, the support rep on the phone told me the exact opposite.
At any rate, it’s due to the optical read head not having the padding it should due to some defective DVD drives (though MS won’t admit this in the US). I bet the vast majority of the world’s optical drives are stored horizontally and don’t have issues with this. My computer certainly hasn’t ever scratched any discs.
by asim on Jul 16, 2007 8:47 PM EDT reply actions
@15:
The issue with going vertical is that it can block the air intakes on the right/bottom of the system which can lead to the noted overheating issues. I’m sticking with horizontal myself.
by a5ehren on Jul 16, 2007 8:55 PM EDT reply actions
I have also heard that standing the 360 on its side is actually worse for it… I just got an Elite yesterday and am keeping it horizontal, but sounds like it could get fucked up either way

Even though I signed up for the PS2 league with Minnesota, I may have to abandon them temporarily. The details coming out today are about as disgusting as possible without involving children or kittens.

NCAA 08: I WANT IT! I NEED IT!
…I can’t afford it until I get paid at the end of the month.

Until anyone can also claim that Jesse Palmer and his schmokin’ hot date drank your Busch Light at the Gainesville Putt-Putt and watched you rule NFL Blitz ’99 (with obvious fear of a challenge), I suggest less gooberdorking.
Blitz ruined me for anything I can’t bodyslam in a football game.

I don’t have a video game system because my wife routinely beat my ass at every arcade game we ever played. Except X-Men, when I brought the hammer down with righteousness.
by Harris on Jul 16, 2007 10:43 PM EDT reply actions
NFL Blitz is what if the league OPENLY allowed performance-enhancing drugs.
Getting my copy for the PS2. Joining a league and starting my first year of med school? Dude, I’m thinking about not even getting cable.
Those guys are funny as hell.

Brewster Crew, at a time like this, all you can do is blame Glenn Mason and hope those fuckers fry (and wish you lived in Florida with those handy liberal gun laws).

I was planning on being at the local Wal-Mart at midnight tonight, then my well meaning wife got me a “surprise”. Yep she got me a reserve copy at a Software Etc. store at the mall so now I have to wait until tomorrow and go across town on my lunch break to pick it up. Love ya honey.

Gotta keep content with ‘07 for the next week or so until the wife comes back to Japan from the States with a copy for me. After that, I’m in—PS2, as long as I can coordinate the time difference and not be playing at 3 AM.

The New Math: 86=1:
If you’re just going to be playing NCAA, the 360 is better, because it has a signifigantly higher framerate and a better online service. If you’re going to play a lot of games, it’s a matter of opinion.
Be warned though, the 360 definitely has reliability issues (and now, a three year factory warranty, heh).

Okay, TEBOW IS IMPOSSIBLEL to tackle on NCAA 08. Seriously. Cornerbacks bounce off of him, and linebackers are DRUG by him 5 yards. UGH.
DJ Hall is sick on the game though.

Guys, from now until the 29th of July Gamestop/EB is offering and extra 20% of credit when you trade in games toward the purchase of NCAA ‘08. I typically hate dealing with the profit-driven bastards, but a deal is a deal. I figure by trading in GTA:SA, NCAA 07, Tiger 07 and Madden 07 I should get some decent scratch towards it. I’m also kinda sad as well…this will be the last time I’ll be buying it on xbox since I’ll be getting a 360 before Halo 3 drops. I can’t get out of work fast enough today!

my last go around with the PS2 version. Had to crack it open and correct the old “disc read error” problem, but she is purrin’ like a kitten again and is ready for the Wildcat.
