I don’t understand why The University of Florida, clearly the most progressive and forward-thinking school in the SEC, didn’t hire him instead of Meyer. I mean, their alumni feel perfectly comfortable urging OTHER schools to hire him….but couldn’t bring themselves to do it. Strange….

Strong was on the short list when Vandy ultimately hired that tired Steve Martin lookalike…who, even with freakin’ Jay Cutler at the controls, couldn’t break the 5-win mark. I still have no idea why Vandy didn’t hire him – it’s not like they should be afraid he couldn’t hold up that proud tradition of being 1 win away from a bowl before deucing the bed against kentucky…(and I’m an ALUM for godsakes)…

Plus, if Charlie Strong is on our sideline instead of Florida’s, maybe that last trip to the Swamp isn’t so close…

The MSM reaction to Tyrone Willingham’s firing was the worst thing that could have happened to AA coaches. If the talking heads are willing to accuse a northern school run by Roman Catholic priests of racism for pulling the trigger, what do you thnk they would say about a school from the SEC?

Strong might have been giving the reins to the Cock position in Colatown had he stuck it out through the Holtz years. I’m not saying that Carolina would have hired Strong over Spurrier (nfw!, but maybe if Strong was the leading candidate no one would have given Spurrier enough thought to think him plausible. Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad we have Spurrier – damn glad.

I also hated like hell to see Charlie leave for Florida.

I doubt Charlie would have been one of the finalists for the Minnesota job if he didn’t want the offer. My guess–pretty well-informed but still a little speculative–is that if the Gopher job hadn’t gone to Brewster, Strong would have gotten it (ahead of Lane Kiffin). He was up in Minneapolis interviewing a couple of days before Brewster got the nod.
