Jow Willie simply the best PURE PASSER that has ever played the GAME. Check the newspapers, magazines and books commenting on Namaths’
ability….from Paul Brown , Sid Gillman, Vince Lombardi, John Madden, Al Davis, Bill Walsh
etc..all acknowledge his ABILITY and impact

not his stats, which were altered by INJURY.
Namath should have played 5 seasons..6 tops..he was a walking infirmiry the last 6-7 years of his career.
Judged like Gayle Sayers..5 seasons 5,000 yards rushing….injury ended career……..,Namath had a similiar career………..
Namath is the bridge football-wise to Montana, Marino,
Brady……….Study, read and you will KNOW

#18 – the truly amazing thing is that by the time most of my friends and I were old enough to pay attention, Namath wasn’t even on the roster of the Rams anymore. So most of us never even saw him take a snap in anger, and yet.

I always wanted to be Just Like Joe, and from the knees down, I seem to have made it. =)

Hey Cap, if a kid is born in ‘55, then he’ll be 7 in ‘62. Good age to start idolizing an up-and-coming football star. I think that’s what Vandy was getting at.

Not that it matters, but Namath would have been a middle schooler in 1955. He came to Tuscaloosa in 1962. But, you’re right, for a long period of time, most Alabama kids wanted to be him.

Namath was on Bryant Gumbel’s HBO show a few months ago, and he’s a wreck. The knees that ended his career are a disaster, and the NFL won’t help.

I was at a lakehouse many years ago where namath was a guest. Joe Willie picked three beer cans in a row off the top of a fencerail with a football from about 30 yards.

After about two hours he picked up the hottest girl at the party and split.

Namath was a legit college level 3-sport star – football, basketball & baseball. Luckily for him, he dumped on the Cubs. If you’re under 45ish, you have no idea what he was back then – he & Ali created the modern athlete persona.

Saw him play a a 9 yr old in 1962 against Miss State, simply the best QB I saw in person until (ugh) Archie.

He was going to Maryland until his SAT did him in. 800 was the ACC minimum back then. Bear always seemed to git lucky dat way.
