SCOTT STAPP UPDATE! WITH PALMS WIDE OPEN...

We at EDSBS have a lasting affection for Scott Stapp, who despite being born an LD dwarf overcame his circumstances to become THE LEAD SINGER OF THE GREATEST BAND EVER, CREED. Stranko's a particular fan of Stapp's vocal stylings, particularly after large, starchy meals when something's got to get the digestive system moving and moving fast.

Stapp has a new song he's singing this morning, however, following an arrest for domestic violence: "With Palms Wide Open." (Irishoutsider from FireMarkMay gets credit there.)

Creed rulz!

Scott Stapp, American hero, is thinking deeply about slapping you right now.

Creed… The worst thing to happen to music before Ashley Simpson.

Maybe you should also enter into evidence the possibly apocryphal Denny’s story featuring Mr. Stapp. Even if it is fake, it’s worth seeing again.

God I hate Creed – or is it (lol) “AlterBridge” now?

But to compare them to Asslee Simpson? Even Creed had a smidgen of musical talent – and I fell it is safe to say that Stapp has never done a “ho-down” dance.

I think Nickleback is the better Creed comparison

At least Ashley… post Rhinoplasty… has some good characteristics.

Lyrics to Stapp singing ‘Higher’

“Although I would like our world to change
It helps me to appreciate
Those nights and those dreams
But, my friend, I’d sacrifice all those nights
If I could make the Earth and my dreams the same
The only difference is
To let love replace all our hate”

Thanks Creed…listening to this shit has gotten me through some rough times

Wow! Why that’s the exact same soundtrack that was playing in my head as I was smacking my wife around…

He actually looks like he can’t wait to feel salvation… all over his face, that is.

Stapp is another vocal Eddie Vedder clone, with the whole marbles-in-my-mouth style of singing. Annunciate, dammit!

Balki is intense.

Ike Turner can dig it.

Since I’m going to a high school graduation tomorrow, this reminds me: my class song in high school was “With Arms Wide Open.” It’s about a guy who knocked a girl up, if I remember, which was appropriate. I also recall in my senior yearbook, there was a poll for some reason chronicling the greatest bands (or musical acts, etc., I’m not sure specifically) of all-time. We had enough sense to vote The Beatles No. 1. No. 2? Creed.

I should note I had no part in either decision. The virtues of REM’s “Electrolyte” remain under-appreciated.

ORAGINA?!? He Threw ORANGINA?!? Of course it wasn’t considered deadly! Throw a fucking quart at her Stapp if you really want to draw some punishment. How do you expect any drink with the word “gina” in it to be deadly?

by Spanky on May 21, 2007 2:18 PM EDT reply actions

you got off easy dude. my class chose this shit despite my desperate efforts lobbying for this (although my personal choice was this but i knew it didn’t have a hope in hell versus the powers that be). just one more reason for me to get the fuck out of ruston, louisiana as soon after graduation as i could.

Geez, I know you guys are from Florida, so some innate cheesiness is to be expected. But the best band ever? Lord, please tell me you’re joking.

by Gurn on May 21, 2007 3:10 PM EDT reply actions

We would be joking, sir.

As someone who suffered through local radio stations playing freakin’ Henry Lee Summer because he was a “home-state rocker” during my college days, my deepest sympathies go out to anyone who survived the Creed Era while living in Florida…

I just can’t imagine what you folks must have gone through. At least ol’ Henry Lee only had one hit to speak of, so they couldn’t play him THAT much.

Scroll down to where it says, “STAPPFLASH.” Good stuff.

We’re not joking Gurn -

We Floridians really enjoy playing our Creed albums while rearranging all of the pink flamingos in our yards.

by MCab on May 21, 2007 4:12 PM EDT reply actions

I just can’t believe that Scott Stapp, my Scott Stapp, would do this. This wreaks of a set up.

The Creed Era couldn’t be any worse than the 3 Doors Down Era in South Mississippi, literally one radio station pimping a band exclusively for the sake of pimping a band. You have to listen to ‘Superman’ for three years, and then it goes NATIONAL So they really ramp it up. I imagine it’s still a big hit in WCPR’s every day rotation (yes, really, WCPR). Glory days, man.

by smq on May 21, 2007 4:48 PM EDT reply actions

Hey SMQ, what’s that station in Hattiesburg that is run by Nation of Islam types and plays nothing but quality, b-side soul & R&B?

And I really hate that song “superman.”

by MCab on May 21, 2007 5:08 PM EDT reply actions

SMQ: of course practically everyone in Jackson County under the age of 30 claimed to be good friends with one of the band members.

[I’ll admit “Duck and Run” has a pretty sweet guitar riff, very Dokkeneque!]

Not all songs named “Kryptonite” are made equal. Excuse us while we bounce on top of our desk for four minutes.

by Orson Swindle on May 21, 2007 5:45 PM EDT reply actions

and, for the record, not every song titled superman sucketh.

by kleph on May 21, 2007 6:00 PM EDT reply actions

are you sure he wasn’t the lead singer for godsmack?

by lawtool on May 21, 2007 6:12 PM EDT reply actions

Ok, South Mississippi, we see your 3 Doors Down and raise you 7 Mary 3, which adopted Orlando as their hometown.

I’d stop there before we bring up Matchbox 20…

This is much like the 16 Stone phenomenon here in tha N.O.

by MCab on May 21, 2007 8:55 PM EDT reply actions

no mention of the infamous gainesville denny’s incident?

by Tolbert1906 on May 21, 2007 9:23 PM EDT reply actions

7 Mary 3 – now that really brings me back….

“down by the waters edge….I didn’t do it… I swaahhhr”

Now that was true lyrical genius.
