CONDITIONING, ALAN BRANCH'S WAY

Autumn Thunder makes it clear that they think Alan Branch, Michigan defensive tackle, got very, very serious for his pre-draft training regimen.

Excellent! Since Alan Webb only stayed at Michigan for a year, there weren’t that many opportunities to grab pictures of him in uniform. But, if Branch could keep up with that guy even for a lap, he must have taped a LOT of pizza to him to cancel out the benefits.

BTW, until I refreshed, the ad under this post was for low-price Cohiba cigars. Coincidence?

I still don’t understand how Branch fell all the way to second round, but it can’t be because he’s fat. If he’s fat, the kid from Louisville needs a Jenny Craig intervention.

He’s 3 inches shorter and only weighs about 25 pounds less. Also consider that he probably has his adult height allready, but not his adult weight. Oh, and Branch was faster at the combine and looks faster on game tape. Someone want to explain all of this to me?

Wow, considering that Alan Webb clocked a 3:51 mile last weekend, Branch much be a lot faster and have more endurance than I imagined………

I’m guessing that he got him during the first 10 meters.

that $75 branch will get for road game meals (does that apply in the NFL? if it doesn’t, it should) will likely go to a good cause. white castle seems like a good place to blow 75 bucks.

Branch: “Yo, Troy. I never had them In-N-Out burgers before.”

Smith: “Dawg, try pepperoni pizza or somethin’ then.”

Only there one year, DG? You think he might have learned something about conditioning in that Kinesiology major that is the pick of most Meatchicken FBers. Not his major? Well maybe he didn’t even have to have one for a short stay. Didn’t know that UM was into the “rent a playa” game. Needin’ to keep up with TossU, I guess. Who says LLLLyodd is too old to learn new tricks.

Jesus! Where to start with the stupidity that is post #7? Hmmmmm.

Webb is the track guy in that picture, who first burst onto the scene as a high schooler at Reston South Lakes (VA) and eventually became the first American high schooler since Jim Ryun to run a sub-4:00 mile and the only high schooler ever to do that indoors (indoor tracks are smaller and have more turns, generally slowing times by a couple of seconds).

He attended Michigan for a year before opting to turn pro and resume training with his old high school coach. He currently attends George Mason University in between seasons on the European track circuit, where he has become one of the world’s top middle distance runners.

I’d argue that he’s one of the best current US athletes (regardless of sport).

FWIW, I think he’s an econ major. His dad is an economist at the World Bank.

  1. Wrong Alan!!! Mea culpa. Misread your comment. Since the whole thread was about Branch, that’s who I was referring to, not the runner (who I did not mean to impugn). I could use ‘just having come from the opthamalogist with dilated pupils’ (true) as an excuse but it was just pure carlessness in not going back and rereading your thread..

No problem. And the idea that they’re teaching pizza sprints in kinesiology classes is amusing.
