The new Arkaloid hoops hire from Creighton, Dana Altman- was on campus one day, took at look at the Hogs 'academic' situation (6 on pro), and he bailed. His wiff was driving the car and she nearly smoked the tires pulling out of the Hogs athletic complex.

1. Who’s your favorite sporting freak ever?
Romanowski, ever since reading about his antics in Playboy. Also Bode Miller...anyone who can get wasted and win a slalom race is awesome in my book.

2. Is it harder to be weird now?
Yea, because being a 'character' is good for your image so more people are doing it.

3. Who’s the biggest oddball currently in action?
Clavin Johnson...the best player at his position and hes a well mannered guy, his mom has a PhD, and he was going to a great school...that's pretty odd if you ask me.

4. What would your eccentricity be in what sport?
In Ski racing, if I won the race, instead of getting sprayed with champagne, id douse myself in Makers' Mark.

1) Bob and Doug McKenzie. Freaks on Ice.

2) Weird these days is probably wearing kakki's, a button down collard shirt, a belt with your pants at your waist, nuthuggers, and a cardigan tied around your neck.

3) Darryl Strawberry, because.

4) College Football - after making even an average play - I'd do a crazy hockey move - like fake-slapshot or the glide-down-the-ice-while-pumping-fist-in-air. College ball needs more of that and less of the fake jump shots.

You know when you meet a hottie at a bar and you have a brief awkward small talk conversation, and then she has to leave, and 5 min later you think of the perfect thing that you should have said? Or when you are having a debate with a friend and 10 minutes later you think of the perfect statement that would have crushed your adversary?

I had something similar this evening. So after the show I went for a bike ride. I was on the bridge when what should have been my answer for #1, or even #3 popped into my head:

The old man who dresses up as a devil and runs along the Tour De France route in the Alps stages- that guy rules.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/1997/DEVIL.JPG

And this article that he built the largest bike in the world...

http://www.recordholders.org/en/records/didi.html

and the pic of him on his Wiki page cleaning up Tour De France street paint in nothing but a red speedo and devil horns...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didi_Senft

...certainly seem to qualify him as a freak-a-deek.

I only got to listen to the archived show last week, and let me just say that nothing compares to getting all these folks together live. Brilliant callers tonight, too- y'all rocked. Even with the jarring contrast between Hyper Will and Slow Buckeye.

1. Who’s your favorite sporting freak ever? Priority given to college football types like Hayden Fry or Woody Hayes. However, other answers will be considered.

Super Dave

2. Is it harder to be weird now? Than, say, the era when Lawrence Taylor’s bar-destroying rages wouldn’t end up captured on someone’s camera-phone and on the net in minutes.

In life in general, wierder people are less accepted, but I think more of them are around.

3. Who’s the biggest oddball currently in action? Mike Leach, for example.

Dennis Rodman would make all time. Pat Tillman a close second. But now? Jonny Wilkinson, english flyhalf in rugby. Very un-Beckham, un-assuming, no fast food, doesn't appear shirtless anywhere.

4. What would your eccentricity be in what sport? In college football, we would down the ball after scoring a td–gently, as one would lay an ostrich egg or ticking bomb on the turf. In golf, we’d strip and dive into the water hazard at the TPC.

In rugby, I would slam the ball down into the try-zone like a basketball. And then I'd be out with a shoulder injury.

I'm not sure what to make of the concurrence of our national championships and the razing of the old Burrito Brothers building today...progress or punishment?
