Jealousy? Probably. Why wouldn’t I be jealous when there were two programs on relatively (Yes, Michigan has almost always been better) equal footing until about 1960, when one decided to keep it’s committment to athletics (football in particular) and the other decided to go cheap. But I’m jealous of the program, not the coach. I have a distaste for every coach who wastes immense ammounts of talent, such as Carr, Cooper, Coker, Fulmer, [Name Redacted], and to a lesser extent, Mason (Say what you will, but Maroney, Barber III, Two AA O-linemen, and an AA-TE who specializes in helping people see through their earhole should be enough to get you to a New Years Day bowl game instead of Nashville and El Paso.).

So Florida allows Marcus Thomas to play for smoking pot and allows Jarvis Moss for smoking pot but Michigan will kick a guy off the team after his first offense.

Lets this be a lesson for Urbie. Standards matter. I am a UF graduate but think Urban is as dirty as they come and hope he does not run the Bowden model. Please change Urbie. When by coaching not bending rules.

In Re: MaskedAvenger’s first post, was the difference between Arrington and Butler’s treatment that you’re referring to that Arrington was left of the list of returning starters while Butler was on the list? If that’s the case, I don’t believe Arrington was considered a starter last year, it was Breaston and Manningham at WR. So, that wouldn’t necessarily be a sign that he’s off the team or anything.

What, ripping on Lloyd Carr for what appears to be a commitment to lax discipline and an inability to win a (whole) national title despite the fact that he doesn’t have to actually recruit people to Michigan (the name does that itself) isn’t funny?

I always thought it was. Maybe I’m looking at things all wrong. Maybe Richard Pryor wasn’t funny, too. Up is down, black is white, and Hillary Clinton is a viable candidate for president…

I saw something to this effect in yesterday’s Detroit Freep. The paper quotes Carr as saying that Arrington, Butler and Eugene Germany are “possible, but not probable” for fall. Since Arrington’s name was off the list of starters, I would imagine that he is back in the doghouse. The courts may have dropped the domestic violence charges from last year, but I’m sure that Arrington was told to keep his nose clean, or else.

On a side note, Mike P., what are you smoking? Fitz may well turn out to be a good coach, but I’ll put him in the same class as Lloyd if and only if he still has the job in 2017, and he has at least 1 undisputed Big Ten championship. Until then, he’s another Francis Peay.

That’s how Glen Mason got the Minnesota job in 1997. The idiots in the AD’s office had a discussion about who was a great coach. Woody Hayes’ name came up, but after hiring a headhunter to find him (and an extensive, costly search) they found out he was in fact dead. But somebody read in a newspaper somewhere that Glen Mason had played for Woody Hayes once. That was enough for the morons, and thus began a 10 year misadventure.

I still don’t understand how Lloyd has .5 of a Championship despite having ALL THAT FREAKING TALENT and all the resources he has available at scUM. It boggles the mind.

It must really chap his ass that the whipper-snapper Fitgerald (Northwestern) is better. I guess in Grandpa Lloyd’s case it’s not what you know but who you blow. I wonder if the bitter taste still in his mouth is Bo.

God knows, we’ve gone through that down here with the coach Bryant. For a while, if you buffed the Bear’s car you were qualified to coach the Tide.
