BOSTON COLLEGE TO GO KABONGO!

It's a definite maybe: Boston College is wooing a 6' 2", 275 pound lineman out of Fairfield Prep who, despite only picking up the game two years ago, is garnering "serious interest" from major schools. (Pity those who only receive "joking interest" and receive the squirting flower treatment from schools. "We'd love to have you here...SIKE!")

The lineman's name? He's a Congolese kid named Masengo Kabongo.

If BC gets him, we have a new favorite team in the ACC. If he sacks the qb, the PA announcer should be fired for not booming out "KABONGO!!!" in celebration.

KABONGO!!!

Looks like Cincy will be awarde zero FC points for their alleged orgy with former women’s soccer players.

However 1 player (identity withheld) will be suspended for UC’s 1st 3 games.

“SIKE?” I always thought it was “PSYCHE!” (like “psyche someone out”).

No, the late 80s diss was spelled SIKE. It was created by children and the don’t do “ps” at the begining of a word with an “s” sound.

I’ll be damned.

Kabongo only pawn in game of life.

The Guardian (UK) has a daily soccer column where they use the word “bongo” as an e-mail-filter-avoiding euphemism for porn… so there’s been some childish sniggering in my cubicle this morning, and for once it wasn’t the boss.

The Huskers had a “Kabongo” a couple of years ago. (I think he’s in the CFL now.) Trust me, yelling “Kabongo” is even more fun than you think it’s going to be. :-)

I’m with tru blu on the spelling, even if it means going against the collective opinion of the anonymous posters at urbandictionary.

It’s been a long road to recovery from the last time I dared to do so, but I’m just crazy enough to tempt fate again.

Courage, CHG.

Sike is a lot less literate and correct…thus, the usage here.

If you can’t trust the anonymous posters on urbandictionary, who can you trust? I mean, what kind of world would that be? Next thing you know, aged theologians posting on Wikipedia will be discovered to be 24yr old college dropouts.

  1. is correct. Patrick Kabongo was an exciteable 6’6" DT for Nebraska who couldn’t make the Lions. He’s currently playing OT for the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL:

In short: An awesome sounding name doesn’t make one a playa.

I agree with tru blu and Chg on this one.

SIKE!!!!

In 1987 I nearly got in a fistfight with a good friend over the correct spelling of our favorite word. That word was a version of “awesome,” contracted down to just the first syllable. Hence, “Awes.” He insisted it was spelled, “Aus.”

Still unresolved, but I’m pretty sure I’m right.

One thing I will never be accused of being is urban.

Albino Tornado, I suspect Patrick K is a lot happier playing in the CFL than for that neverending mediocrity in Detroit.

Rebuilding since 1957, indeed.

BC seems to make a habit of getting African players, or at least players with very African names. Maybe it’s the Roman Catholic thing, but seriously isn’t this like the fourth or fifth that will now could/have been an Eagle?

He’s ranked as the top overall recruit in New England, so I believe BC would be lucky to get him. He’s getting serious looks from really good schools, who knows if he’s the next Mathias Kiwanuka
