CHAMPIONS.
Overwhelmed with emotion–simply overwhelmed. 41 out of 50 AP sportswriters can go choke themselves with a Twizzler right now. After five minutes, this game was out of reach. It’s not that Florida was merely good–they were flawless and magnificent like anyone who’s ever appeared on The Actor’s Studio with James Lipton. Chris Leak played a magnificent game-no Evil Chris, lurking in the shadows in the third quarter. No blocked punt, a la Auburn. No improbable decisions.
(Chris…we’re so sorry. We’re so, so sorry.)
And it’s not that Ohio State was bad–they were pathetic. Odious. Null. Reeking. Inert. They had no answer, no adjustments, no nothing. Alex Boone and Kirk Barton spent all night reaching backwards into the void where Derrick Harvey and Jarvis Moss should have been, and instead turning over to look at Troy Smith, eyes wide as dinner plates, turning away from one 270 lb. man attempting to kill him to find another 270 lb. beast running at him with 4.7 speed. His line becomes a paragraph unto itself:
Troy Smith: 4-14, 35 yards. 0 TDs, 1 INT. Sacks: 5
Heisman! UF outplayed them in every single facet of the game. No Ted Ginn excuses, no blown calls, nothing. Florida kicked ass until their toes fell off. It was like watching a small animal get crushed between two glaciers. It was like watching Roy Jones in his prime boxing an Olsen twin. It was like watching Clarence Darrow squaring off against Starr Jones in the courtroom. It was defeat, served rare, with a side of raw loss.
And for us: scoreboard, bitches. Scoreboard. We. Win.

And the first pick of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders…Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State.
Amazing Gator defense, Percy Harvin is the balls, and Chris Leak cements his place in Gator lore right next to Danny Weurfell.
What a glorious New Year!

Congratulations Gators! Though I hate UF with the white-hot intensity of 1000 stars, I must give credit where credit is due. Last night’s game was simply a behind-the-woodshed beating that no one had predicted; the Gators completely dominated on both sides of the ball all game and had this thing won by half-time. That was a truly dominant performance.
Gator fans have every right, and SHOULD, to be celebrating wildly today. But please spare us the “No one said we could win, this shows them!” The only place I’ve seen it claimed that UF couldn’t win was by Gator fans complaining about the “haterz” out there. You won, enjoy it you certainly earned.
CONGRATS GATORS!

Congratulations Gators…you guys obviously deserved to win. I’ve always enjoyed this site, but now I won’t be able to visit it without experiencing PTSD. How appropriate that our band’s halftime show was a “Titanic” theme. **sigh**

Orson & Stranko,
Congrats Gents!! Of course, Orson, apparently, I must also pray for the soul of TCOAN that you sold to Satan.
(Beelzebub offered the 41-14 score yesterday… weird)

The A.P. rankings further demonstrate that the sports media are a bunch of jerkoffs.

Congrats, UF fans. That was a royal asswhipping the likes of which I haven’t sat through since late in the Cooper Era. “Pathetic” doesn’t begin to describe it. The better team clearly won. Your boys deserve it.

Orson and Stranko,
For all the enjoyment this site has brought to myself and the masses of college football fans since its launch, a national title is the absolute least the football gods can do for you two.
Congratulations, and enjoy your celebration!
P.S. I’ll even give you a couple weeks to get past the joyous hangover before I start pestering you to resume your hilarious off-season college ad reviews…

What a great day to be an SEC fan!
And, not a bad day to be an Auburn Tiger as well…..
Congrats.

Jeez, where was that shitty piece of shit team on November 18? Fucking tOSU.

Hell, go ahead, take a share of the national title if you want. The way tOSU was moving (or, to look at it another way, not moving) the ball last night, Auburn’s D would’ve eaten them alive.

Michigan fans can suck it for trying to deny us this opportunity. The Big Ten stinks.
It’s worth revisiting this quote from the single Harris voter who saw this coming and voted Florida number 1 before bowl season even started:
“If you look at the Big Ten conference, it is a
joke… I voted with my heart and I voted with the
strength of what I believe in. In my opinion, Florida
is the No. 1 team in the nation.”

I cannot believe what a huge Gator fan this Auburn fan was last night. Congrats, guys. Helluva game.
#79 Doug: If we’re playing that game, then what do you say to Auburn? By Bama’s standards, I think we just won a national title too.
Seriously - Leak looked amazing last night. Wow.

For #52 Ed:
Not even close. Arkansas finished 10-4, and lost to the Coaches’ Poll 1,3,4, and 5 ranked teams. (1,3,4, and 7AP)

What’s up ACC? You sure did suck this year. Your teams don’t start showing up until #17-18.
Also this quote is so, so true:
“We played a lot better teams than Ohio State this year,” Florida’s Jarvis Moss said, a piece of blue confetti sweatstuck to his neck. “I can name four or five teams in the SEC that would compete real well against them.”

Wow. Thank you Florida Gators and Congratulations!
My Dad called me last night at Midnight (he hates OSU as much as I do) and says:
“Isn’t this priceless? Isn’t this just great? Do you know the best part? When they show tOSU fans crying in the stands!”
There were 8 minutes left in the game……
My Dad is a grown man in his late 50’s. The Gators brought much joy to our family last night. Thank you.
Enjoy Orson. Don’t kill off Subcomandante Wayne. He is obviously a good luck character.

I know I’m the only person who cares about this, maybe even the only Georgia fan, but Georgia only lost to Florida by one touchdown; Ohio State lost by four touchdowns. Thereby I decree that Georgia is four times better than tOSU HA HA SUCK IT!!1!1!one!1!eleven
Congratulations to our new Gator overlords, especially the EDSBS crew. Y’all are a big part of the reason I’m not stabbing myself in the neck with a pencil over the fact that Florida holds the national titles in football AND basketball at the moment.

Orson, didn’t Troy also have a fumble last night? That needs to be added to the box score you posted at the top of this thread.
At least Troy will have a nice Heisman Trophy paperweight to look at when he’s not playing for long in the NFL.

Ouch. Never would have guessed that outcome, but that’s why you play ‘em.
Congrats Gator fans, especially the owners of this fine site–an absolute tribute to the greatest sport on earth. Winning it all makes February-August bearable. Losing it all makes for a tough few decades.
Better luck to us next time,
TGdE
