A defensive thing of beauty. 82 total yards for Ohio State. That’s SEC defense. It’s great to be a Florida Gator!

Orson in late October, describing various title game possibilities: “Florida/Ohio State: Murder. Simple murder. No one wants to see this.”

As it turns out, he was right. Well, except for the no one wanting to see it part. Congrats, Gators.

For Orson, Stranko and all the Gators out there, y’all laid a country ass-whoopin’ on a team I thought could only be beaten by the Patriots.

congratulations, especially to Reggie F Nelson.

Congrats to UF and both of our hosts. Your boys earned this one in the best possible way: No interference from the zebras, and once you got your foot on the Sweatervest’s throat, you never let up.

Congrats guys. I’m still smarting from that Sugar Bowl, but it sure is nice to see Troy Smith getting his ass kicked. Did someone mug OSU’s line and replace them with my Domers?

Orson – congrats on the beautiful ending to a great season.. you should probably send flowers to Tuberville with “Thanks for ’04” on the card, and another dozen to UCLA, maybe just to the cheerleaders in case one of them ever comes to Atlanta. For an EDSBS photo shoot of course.

And thanks to TCOAN for letting Orson play with us this year

by Futbawl Fan on Jan 9, 2007 12:22 AM EST reply actions

Mother of Christ I’m glad I didn’t have money on that game.

I’d still like to see Southern Cal-UF. You know, like it was a playoff or something.

by Erik on Jan 9, 2007 12:22 AM EST reply actions

it’s just so fulfilling to see Tosu get their asses kicked. I thought I was marginally well adjusted, but the level of hatred I felt for tOSU as I saw that opening kickoff was Michigan-esque.

So are you guys all ‘jumping on the Chris Leak bandwagon’, like the asshole commentator suggested? And I didn’t hear Percy drop the lawya-bomb after the game. So congrats on a fine win (the greatest championship game ever, in my opinion, since my least-favorite team got its ass kicked) and good luck in the bas-ket-ball season, whatever that is.

And the FOX college football ‘season’ says goodbye with Con Te Partiro. Bunch of goddam assholes.

by J.J. on Jan 9, 2007 12:22 AM EST reply actions

Damn. That was impressive. Congrats to the Gators for not only showing they deserved to be there, but for making the No. 1 team in the country look as if they didn’t.

And thanks for sparing us all from the gloating from Subcommandante nation.

Congratulations to Orson & Stranko. 41-14…very impressive. Not 62-24 impressive, but close. The karmic payback for all that you have done for college football fans everywhere was that many of them were behind you & the Gators tonight…right now, one out here in Bumblefuck, NE is very happy for you guys.

You know, Herbstreit was right…it really was a crock of shit that Michigan & OSU didn’t get their rematch…it probably would’ve been a much better game than tonight!

Well, looks like the Big 10 was outed this year as a pretender conference. The two best teams of the conference got their lives ruined on college football’s biggest stages.

As much as I hate to say it, the Gators played a great game and OSU’s collective mind was back at the Eddie George grill on campus in Columbus. The Heisman curse strikes again!

Class tomorrow should be fun at Ohio State, I expect the fourth of my classmates that went to the game to have all killed themselves by now.

Orson, Stranko, have either of you called Subcom Wayne’s mom to check in on him? He probably is shooting out the windows to the Grand Am with a pellet gun. Let’s hope his aim is no better than T Smith’s.

Thanks OS and SM for giving us Gator fans our own little corner on the internet.

Oh, to have seen the Trojans play the Gators, at least that would have been entertaining.
This was a mugging! Congrats on revealing the Big 10 as the Big Fraud, just like we did.
Keep up the good work. Got an opening in your schedule in the next year or two? The Gators and Trojans should schedule a pair of games, hopefully soon.
Still, the SEC and Pac-10 provide the most entertaining football in the country, and Urban’s West Coast offense is a product of being west coast adjacent while in Utah.

it’s on the news… ARK and TN are sending suicide prevention counselors to OH to assist with the phone calls… these two states have lots of recent practice

by Futbawl Fan on Jan 9, 2007 12:28 AM EST reply actions

The implication of the Gino Torretta picture is insulting to a legitimately great QB, his line just didn’t have it, 15, 51, or 115 days.

The SEC owns OSU, sigh.

Yes, you should enjoy your win, and your team, but without resorting to classless imagery.

Even for a sports website, embarrassing.

by L. M. D. on Jan 9, 2007 12:28 AM EST reply actions

For Chris Leak who’s been “ridin so hard, by so many” (thank you Fox announcing!) way to give it tOSU right up the rear.

by sagehen on Jan 9, 2007 12:29 AM EST reply actions

OSU got more rpedictbale, stopped running it, kept sending 4 wide and 5 wide and din’t blocking Florida’s excellent DE’s with chip blocks and max protect etc.

They screwed a lot up and played right into Florida’s hands, Ginn going down hurt them bad…

Despite that Florida beat the crap out of Troy Smith, and Florida still would have dominated the game offensively. OSU was definitely overrated in this game, they gave up 29 at home to Michigan, Florida was the superior team all along, the barn stole that game from them….I depise Trey Smith….

Corso is apologizing for OSU, and congratualting Ron Zook, fire him….now!

The Big Ten is slow….The SEC is fast, the Gators had a very fast d-line everyone ignored that.

Mohler(sp?) did an excellent job, his use of the FBs and underneath outes was excellent, his use of tebow was great although they should have gone for it in the 2nd half on 3rd down and 4th down with 4 to go with Tebow.

The MVPs were Moss, Smith, Leak, Ingram and Latsko those 2 role players who opened up many option for Leak, Latsko is a Hester lite FB and Ingram ahs some size to him for a TE, a lot better receiver than people give him credit for.

When you have 6-7 good to great receiving WRs, TEs, FBs, and RN/HBs etc. you can mis-match an opponet Meyer and his OC did great.

Coros’s voice is hoarse from yelling for OSU saying “NO! NO! NO!!!!!!!!!”

Fire Corso!!!!

Congrats to Florida and all Gator fans – from a Buckeye.

Subcomandante Wayne seems a bit upset… from the Associated Press:

“Things were pretty quiet in the city following the loss, Columbus police Sgt. Kevin Corcoran said about a half hour after the game ended. He said there had been reports of a couple trash bins on fire and one arrest on charges of drunken disorderly conduct.”

Congratulations, guys. Great win. But, seriously, if you win the basketball tourney again, we’re going to have to do something about this. There are limits.

by Devin McCullen on Jan 9, 2007 1:20 AM EST reply actions

Wow! What a beatdown. I thought the Michigan loss to USC was apocalyptic. At least the Rose Bowl was tied at halftime. As for the national championship, Florida has definitely earned a share. I think Boise State deserves part of the title too. Reasons:

1. Boise State is unbeaten. Florida plays in a hardcore conference, but they have a double digit loss.

2. Boise State beat a good Big 12 team in the fiesta. They also beat the tar out of Oregon State. What did USC do with Oregon State? :)

3. The "statue of liberty" is a badass play.

4. In a actual game Florida would probably murder Boise, but just about everybody said that OSU "would probably" kill Florida. I would love to see Florida and Boise actually play.

by Michigan Dave on Jan 9, 2007 1:30 AM EST reply actions

Congrats guys, and I’m all for a Boise State/Florida throwdown next weekend. Let’s just keep the games coming.

by CW on Jan 9, 2007 2:10 AM EST reply actions

Michigan Dave,
Just be happy that Carroll has enough class to have allowed you guys to score that meaningless TD to make your loss look a little less worse.

by RB on Jan 9, 2007 2:12 AM EST reply actions

RB-
Florida was simply awesome. They owned the WHOLE game and never let up.

The rose bowl was tied in the first half and Michigan got smacked by USC in the second half. Then they let up and we got our garbage time touchdown. :) The thing is, you just never know when garbage time gets serious. (2003 Minnesota game, 2004 Michigan State game)

I wonder about Carroll. He is a great recruiter. The game plan against Michigan was outstanding, but in last year’s NC game Texas had injuries in the secondary and he refused to throw the ball and finish out the game. Also, the apathy in the UCLA game was amazing.

by Michigan Dave on Jan 9, 2007 2:53 AM EST reply actions

Split the title. I’d love to see Boise State vs. UF in a play down game but until that happens I can’t see a logical, common sense way to discern a champion.

by BC Eagle on Jan 9, 2007 7:59 AM EST reply actions

Don’t worry about it – UF is the NC. Boise didn’t even get to play the #3 (at the time) team in the country. Things like this happen – (yes, we know all about this).

And, again, I’m wondering if anyone remembers that it was I, way back when, who predicted this.

by PSUgirl on Jan 9, 2007 9:08 AM EST reply actions

Florida is #1, To all that think Boise St. should share the title please see , Auburn ‘04. That’s just the way it goes. If they would stop ranking teams for next season until they play 3-4 games it would help teams like Boise St. and Auburn . It’s total crap to rank a team before any games are played. Congrats Gators

by Dr. Ed PHD.XYZ on Jan 9, 2007 9:23 AM EST reply actions

Congratulations

And though the system is flawed, its ridiculous to think Boise St deserves any chunk of the title.

Here’s the problem I had: I get paid to actually watch college football, from noon to 2 a.m. I watch every game there is. And I do that for 15 straight weeks. I’m in a position where I can make an opinion on more than: “well right here on paper, it says Florida beat six top 25 teams.” I don’t care. I don’t care.

CONGRATULATIONS GATORS – YA’LL DID US PROUD! Now, a couple of observations/questions.

(1) LSU fans no longer feel so bad about losing to Florida, though they ARE still wondering about the Auburn game.

(2) Florida fans are also wondering about the Auburn game, though at the moment, it doesn’t really seem to matter.

(3) Auburn fans are also wondering, though not so much about the Arkansas and Georgia games as whether their day in the sun has come to a screeching halt.

(4) Asking Bill Curry to comment on the Saban to Alabama story is like asking Bin Laden to say a few words about world peace. Bill needs to move on and ESPN needs to give some thought to objective commentators.

(5) Can someone articulate just how dumb the Meeechigan crybabies look about now? I don’t seem to be able to.

(6) Why is Patrino getting a pass from the press? More importantly, why do I even care. Ya’ll say it best. College football is too important to be left to the professionals.

(7) College football does not need a playoff system. We already have one – it’s called the SEC Chamionship game.

(8) Do we think McSweatervest is still going to put in for that Sabanesque raise?

(9) Why is it okay to talk about firing Lloyd Carr after he went 11-2 but firing a 6-6 Mike Shula is akin to kicking a puppy? By the way, if Alabama fired my son, I would defend him to. But I wonder what circumstances took Daddy Don from Baltimore to Miami. Surely, he didn’t just up and quit at Baltimore.

(10) How long till September?

by Larry Givens on Jan 9, 2007 4:24 PM EST reply actions

Way to go Gators! As a Columbus native, I have never been happier to see a team lose so badly in my entire life. Without a doubt, tOSU supporters are the most classless fans in all of college football. I’d like to say I’m better than stooping to their level, but sadly I am just not.
