The sad thing is that thing was probably suped up by UF money… still paying the Zooker for all those fun times…

i’ve always believed that coaching talent can consistently give a program a respectable record like 6-7 wins a season, but talented coaching is the only way to get to the 10 wins or more plateau. after discussing this issue at length with a friend who’s an illinois alumnus, luckily for zook the fans at that school are perfectly happy with 6-7 wins a year, if that many.
if he keeps pulling in the talent and illinois gets a soft conference schedule in the rotation (think wisconsin this year), it’s perfectly concievable that they will be representing the big 10 in a Rose Bowl in, say, 3 or so years. then we all get to watch whatever other conference champion like USC or Cal in the same bowl completely and utterly steamroll zook’s talented but terribly coached team. god bless america.

Someone please tell me they also just watched Joe Kines’ halftime interview during the Independence bowl.
I’m frightened enough to be posting from under my desk in the fetal position right now.

Darkknight,
It was disturbing to say the least. I’m scared too.

So that’s how coaches spend their buyouts these days.

Well, he certainly isn’t an “uptight white guy.” I hope the Illinois fans (all 3 of them) take time to familiarize themselves with the phrase “NCAA investigation.”

That’s just what I’d expect from Coach Z!
He’s rocking the practice field, stylin’ with his ride!

RaginCajun –
Dem’s Vogues. You can almost make out the gold stripe. I got a fiddy that says there’s Dom or Cristal in that cooler. That is until the Subcommandante makes it over to quaff and crap…

The guy riding shotgun is wearing a Ron Zook shirt. Are those available for purchase on everydayshouldbeilliniday.com?

I can’t wait until the Illini meet the Gamecocks in the Nat’l Championship game 3 years from now.

Is that a cooler in the back?
It would explain some past playcalling decisions.
by GamecockTony on Dec 29, 2006 9:07 AM EST reply actions
The NCAA says I’m not allowed to have direct contact with you right now, so let’s just text back and forth while we’re waiting for that cooler full of Cristal to chill.
by beatAuburn on Dec 29, 2006 9:15 AM EST reply actions
Is anyone else not surprised that he is texting recruits when he should be COACHING!!! DANG-IT ZOOK!!!! YOU ACTUALLY DO HAVE TO DO SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST BRING IN THE JIMMYS AND JOES!!!! DANG IT!!!!!!!!!
by Judge on Dec 29, 2006 10:08 AM EST reply actions
I’ll say this. Zook could be dangerous if he ever hires competent coordinators. The guy will bring in the talent. If he had someone to coach it, he’d be in great shape. Maybe he could ask Alabama and Paul Bryant Jr. if it would be ok for him to interview Jimbo Fisher.
by rebel84 on Dec 29, 2006 10:18 AM EST reply actions
I disagree rebel…..I think he had competent coordinators at UF. Charlie Strong is doing fine now that he is gone (and the rumor was that Zook micromanaged Strong’s defense to the point that Strong was hamstrung). He had rising star Larry Fedora on offense. It is HIM that is the problem. He is a top-flight recruiting coordinator / special teams coach…..that’s it.

I went to Disney for two days before Christmas, and there were extra-large Univ. of Illinois fans everywhere. It was very strange. Apparently the man’s fans congregate in the Magic Kingdom and gorge on turkey legs back there by the Indy 500 ride.

#23, that ain’t a rumor! It is flat out the truth… we’re just lucky Charlie didn’t give up and leave (or beat his head against a wall to the point of permanent idiocy) before Jeremy came to his senses.

Yay [Name Redacted] is an overgrown teenager who can’t coach and is down with the youth. Let’s all go play with him and have 4-win seasons and torpedo our NFL careers. But at least he’s not white & uptight.
Maybe after we graduate and get passed by for the draft we can still hang out with him in his mom’s basement and smoke blunts and listen to old school Dr. Dre.

You all need to watch your mouthes as courtesy to the Illinois and Florida fans on the site. The ‘Z’-word is verboten.
by j.j. on Dec 29, 2006 1:33 PM EST reply actions
Us Illini fans will take what we can get from the Zooker. This was a team that was in the Sugar Bowl as little as 5 years ago (where we were blown out, have fun with that ND). We had a coach who couldn’t recruit with an 11 win season (Ron Turner, who will now ruin the Bears and the Rex Machine). We needed talent, Zook is a provider of that. Now he couldn’t coach the team to 8 wins with Sweatervest as his DC and Urban (kind of ironic that he is an uptight white guy with the name) as his OC. His coordinators at Illinois are the same thing he is (Locksley is getting us Benn and Vontae Davis), glorified recruit wooers.
We understand what we have and only hope that he can bring us enough talent for the next coach to do a good job (Kind of like he did with a team now playing for a national championship).

Please quit spouting that crap about [Name Redacted] bringing all the talent to Florida so Urban could just waltz in and take them to the NC.
[Name Redacted] did recruit great players but I can think of a few – Tebow, Harvin, Ryan Smith (Utah transfer), Jarred Fayson, Wondy Pierre-Louis – who were instrumental this year and had zilch to do with the guy on the pimpcart.

The contents of the cooler? Simple, COLD HARD CASH baby.

Good ’ole [Name Redacted]….he gave us Tennessee fans such good times. Turned a nigh unstoppable offensive destroyer into a flaming abortion of gin and defeat! But, I do like my enemies strong and Urban has pumped them full of piss and vinegar again. Hopefully the gators will tebow the shit out of osu…sorry subcommandante.

rjsplow is obviously clueless when it comes to the zooker.
Zook has had coordinators – he just meddles too much. Now if he let them do their jobs….thats a different story.
